ESD claim stuck in processing for weeks - desperate for funds before job interview

I filed my unemployment claim with ESD over 3 weeks ago and it's STILL showing as 'processing' with no updates! Starting to panic because I have a job interview next Tuesday (which is great) but I literally have zero money for gas to get there after paying April rent. Beginning to think I made a huge mistake filing online instead of calling. The eServices dashboard just says 'processing' with no explanation of what's happening or timeline. Has anyone else been stuck in this limbo recently? Any tips to speed things up? I'm checking my account multiple times daily but nothing changes. 😔

same boat!! my claim has been processing for almost 5 weeks now. its ridiculous how they expect ppl to survive with no income while they take forever to process claims.

5 weeks?! That's terrifying. Did you try contacting them at all? I'm worried I'll miss this job opportunity because I can't even afford to get there.

The processing delays right now are frustrating but normal. ESD is dealing with a backlog from their system updates in February. A few things you can try: 1. Check if your identity verification is complete (sometimes this holds things up) 2. Make sure all your weekly claims are being filed correctly while you wait 3. Look for any alerts or messages that might need a response 4. Double-check that you uploaded all required documents Have you received any correspondence from them asking for additional information?

Thanks for the checklist. I've been filing my weekly claims religiously. No alerts that I can see, and I uploaded everything they asked for (ID, work history, etc). The frustrating thing is there's NOTHING showing as a problem or missing - it's just sitting there!

If ur claim says processing thats actually GOOD news. Mine was stuck in "submitted" status for 3 weeks before it changed to processing, and then it was approved 4 days later. Processing means they're actually working on it! But def keep filing those weekly claims even while waiting.

That's a tiny bit reassuring, thanks. Just worried about this interview... if I miss it because I couldn't get there, I might be stuck in unemployment even longer.

I was in a similar situation last month and I was getting DESPERATE! After trying regular ESD phone lines for days and getting nowhere, I found this service called Claimyr that got me through to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes. It was such a relief to talk to someone who could actually tell me what was happening with my claim! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 and their website is claimyr.com. Definitely worth checking out if you're in a time crunch with that interview coming up.

is this legit? seems weird to use a service just to talk to esd???

Yeah it's legit. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after being on hold for 3+ hours multiple days. They basically use technology to wait on hold for you then call you when they get through to an agent. Saved me from losing my mind with the hold music lol

Your claim is likely in Identity Verification or Fact-Finding adjudication. Most claims that show 'processing' for extended periods are waiting on one of these steps. Here's what you need to know: - Processing can take 3-6 weeks currently (longer than their official estimates) - Continue filing weekly claims while waiting - If it's in adjudication, an ESD specialist needs to review documents or information - For your immediate situation with the job interview: check with local WorkSource offices, they sometimes have transportation assistance programs for interviews If you can reach an agent by phone, ask specifically if your claim is in adjudication or ID verification, and request an escalation due to hardship (mention the job interview). They can sometimes expedite in cases of immediate need.

Thank you for this detailed explanation. I had no idea about the WorkSource transportation assistance - will definitely look into that today! And I'll try calling again to see if I can get through to someone who can tell me if it's in adjudication.

The ESD system is absolute GARBAGE!!! They expect us to follow every rule perfectly but then take MONTHS to process claims?? I waited 7 weeks last year and almost got evicted. Then they had the nerve to tell me I should have "planned better" when I finally got an agent on the phone. The whole system is designed to make people give up!!!

7 weeks is crazy! But to be fair my neighbor works at ESD and says they're severely understaffed and working mandatory overtime just to keep up with claims. Not defending the delays but there are real people trying their best behind the scenes.

Trying their" best'doesn t pay my bills or get this person to their job interview! The system is broken and has been forYEARS.

For your immediate need - have you looked into borrowing money from family/friends just for the transportation to the interview? I know it's not ideal but getting to that interview sounds really important. When I was waiting for my claim to process last year I had to swallow my pride and ask my brother for a loan just to keep my lights on. Good luck with the interview btw!

Thanks for the suggestion. I've already borrowed from everyone who could help for rent this month. But you're right, I might need to figure something out - this interview is too important to miss. Maybe I can see if someone can give me a ride there.

Just wanted to follow up - definitely contact the employer and explain your transportation situation. Many companies understand financial challenges during unemployment and might offer options like: 1. Virtual first interview 2. Interview location closer to public transportation 3. Some larger employers even have programs to help candidates with transportation costs It shows initiative on your part to problem-solve, which can actually make a positive impression. Don't let this opportunity slip away!

This is really smart advice, thank you! I hadn't even considered asking about a virtual interview. I'm going to email the hiring manager today and see if that's an option. Maybe they'd be open to a Zoom call for the first round at least. Thank you!

Just checking in - did u end up getting ur claim processed or finding a way to the interview? Hope things worked out ok

Small update: The company agreed to do a virtual first interview tomorrow! Still no movement on my claim but at least I won't miss this opportunity. If I get to the second round, I'll have to figure out transportation then, but this buys me some time. Thanks everyone for the advice and support!
