ESD claim error: Duplicate employer causing weekly claim issues - need help removing duplicate
I'm totally stressed out because I made a stupid mistake when reactivating my UI claim. I accidentally entered my current employer (Sound Medical Group) TWICE when I was going through the screens to restart my claim after a temporary layoff. Now when I go to file my weekly claim, the system is making me report hours for the same employer twice! First it asks for hours worked at "Sound Medical Group" and then later it asks AGAIN for hours at "Sound Medical Group" (same exact name and address). I've been putting in identical hours for both entries, but I'm worried this is going to cause problems with my benefits calculation or trigger some fraud alert. I've tried looking around in eServices for a way to edit my employer list but can't find anything. Has anyone dealt with this before? How do I get one of the duplicate employers removed from my claim?

omg i did the EXACT same thing last month with my retail job. ended up calling esd like 20 times before i got thru. they fixed it on their end but said i had to keep entering the same hours twice until the next "quarter change" or something. super annoying but at least my benefits still came thru ok

•Thanks for responding! That's somewhat reassuring. Did reporting the same hours twice affect your benefit amount at all? I'm worried they'll think I'm working twice as many hours as I actually am.

This is a common issue that requires an ESD agent to fix in their system. When you have duplicate employers, it's important to report the same exact hours for both entries to avoid discrepancies. The system won't count your hours twice as long as you're consistent. You'll need to call ESD at 800-318-6022 to get an agent to remove the duplicate. Unfortunately, this isn't something you can fix yourself in the online portal. Make sure to explain clearly that you accidentally entered the same employer twice during claim reactivation. In the meantime, continue filing your weekly claims with identical hours for both entries to ensure you receive your benefits without interruption.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I've been trying to call that number for three days now but keep getting the "call volume too high" message and it disconnects me. Is there a better time of day to call? I'm afraid of messing up my claim the longer this goes on.

I went through something similar early this year. The frustrating part is trying to reach ESD to fix it! After struggling to get through on the phone for weeks, I discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) which helped me skip the hold times and actually get connected to an ESD agent who fixed the duplicate employer issue in about 5 minutes once I got through. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 In the meantime, make sure you're entering IDENTICAL hours for both employer entries. The agent told me they see this issue regularly and as long as your hours match exactly, it shouldn't affect your benefit calculation.

•is claimyr legit? seems sketchy that you have to pay just to talk to esd when its their mistake???

•I felt the same way initially, but after spending 3 weeks trying to get through myself, it was worth it to finally resolve my issue. It's basically just a service that navigates the phone system and holds your place in line. Used it twice now and got through both times. But yes, it's ridiculous we have to resort to this because ESD's phone system is so broken.

This is a straightforward fix that requires an ESD representative to adjust your claim in their system. While you're waiting to get it resolved: 1. Continue filing weekly claims, entering identical hours for both instances of the employer 2. Document your attempts to contact ESD (dates/times) 3. Keep any paystubs or work hour documentation in case you need to verify later The system won't double-count your hours as long as the entries match, but it is important to get this fixed. The duplication won't trigger fraud concerns as this is a common user error that ESD staff see regularly. As for reaching ESD by phone, try calling precisely at 8:00 AM when they open or between 3:30-4:00 PM when call volume sometimes decreases. Mondays and Tuesdays tend to have the highest call volumes, so Wednesday-Friday might yield better results.

•Thank you for the detailed advice! I'll try calling at 8am sharp tomorrow. Do you know if this will affect my standby status at all? I'm supposed to be on standby for 4 more weeks while our department is temporarily closed for renovations.

•No, this won't affect your standby status. The duplicate employer issue is completely separate from your standby approval. Your standby status is based on your employer's verification and the approved time period, not how the employer appears in the system. Just make sure you continue meeting all other standby requirements (being available for recall, etc.).

UGH the ESD system is GARBAGE!!! I had THREE duplicates of my employer somehow and spent SIX WEEKS trying to get someone to fix it!!! By the time they finally fixed it they had OVERPAID me and then wanted ME to pay it back even though THEY screwed up my claim!!! The whole system is designed to make claiming as difficult as possible so people just give up. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING and send messages through eServices portal too, not just phone calls. Sometimes they actually respond to those.

•Oh no, that sounds like a nightmare! I definitely don't want to end up with an overpayment. Did you have to appeal the overpayment decision?

•YEP and it was a whole other nightmare. Had to wait 3 months for a hearing with an administrative law judge. Eventually won because I had screenshots of EVERYTHING and all my messages trying to get them to fix it before the overpayment happened. If they try to put this on you, fight it!!!

Just wanted to update that I managed to get through to ESD this morning! The agent was able to remove the duplicate employer from my account in less than 5 minutes. She said it might take 24-48 hours to update in the system, but my next weekly claim should only show my employer once. For anyone else with this issue - she mentioned this happens frequently and confirmed that as long as you enter identical hours for both entries, it won't affect your benefits. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Thanks for coming back to update! This is great information for others who might face the same issue. Glad you got it resolved quickly once you reached an agent.

•I used the advice about calling exactly at 8:00am - set an alarm for 7:58 and had the number ready to dial. Got the hold message instead of the high call volume message, and waited about 40 minutes, but finally got through!

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! Created a duplicate employer entry when I reactivated my claim after being furloughed. It's so frustrating that such a simple mistake requires calling ESD to fix. I've been entering the same hours twice for the past two weeks and it's working fine for receiving benefits, but I'm paranoid about potential issues down the road. Going to try the 8am calling strategy tomorrow - fingers crossed I can get through like Grace did!
