Determination on ESD claim showing but no letter yet - am I approved?
I'm going crazy with anxiety over here! I just checked my ESD account (week 10 of waiting - yep, TEN WEEKS) and noticed there's a determination on my claim dated today, but there's no actual letter showing up in my notices yet. My weeks are showing as "waiting week" for the first one and all the others say "processing." Does this combination of statuses usually mean good news? Like my claim was finally approved and I'm just waiting for the official letter to get generated tonight? I've heard ESD systems update late at night. I desperately need this money and have been in limbo forever. Anyone been through this exact scenario? What happened in your case?

•OMG thank you! I literally haven't slept in days worrying about this. So you think I might get paid soon after the letter shows up? I'm so close to being evicted it's not even funny.

This is generally positive news, but I'd advise caution about celebrating too early. A determination just means they've made a decision, not necessarily that it's in your favor. However, seeing the waiting week is usually a good indicator because that's typically only established for approved claims. ESD's system does indeed update overnight, usually between 11pm-3am. The letter should appear in your notices section by tomorrow morning. If your claim is approved, your payment status should change from "processing" to "paid" within 48-72 hours after the determination letter posts. Make sure you continue filing your weekly claims even while waiting for this to sort out.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I'll definitely keep filing my weekly claims. Do you know if there's any way to speed things up once I (hopefully) get approved? Would calling them help at all?

I was in EXACTLY the same boat last month!!! Waited 7 weeks (not as bad as your 10 though wow) and then suddenly saw a determination but no letter yet. For me personally it WAS an approval and I got my letter the next morning around 7am. The money hit my account 3 business days later. BUT my sister had a determination that ended up being a denial so it really could go either way. The suspense is horrible!!!! I totally feel your pain. Just check again in the morning. Fingers crossed for you!!!!!

•This is accurate - a determination simply means a decision has been made, but the content of that decision could be either approval or denial. The combination of seeing a waiting week established AND weeks in processing status does typically lean toward approval, but nothing is certain until you can read the actual determination letter. If you do receive an approval, the typical timeframe for payment after the determination letter is 2-4 business days, depending on your payment method (direct deposit is fastest, debit cards take longer).

Speaking from experience with ESD's incredibly slow system, if you need to contact them about your claim, you'll be in for another frustrating wait. I discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) last month when I was in a similar situation - determination made but needed clarification. They got me connected to an ESD agent in under 25 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Honestly was worth it just to get definitive answers about my payment timeline instead of stressing for days more.

I HATE how they do this to people!!!! 10 WEEKS is CRIMINAL when rent is due NOW. The whole system is designed to wear us down so we give up. I had a determination that took 2 months and it was just because my former employer contested it with totally FALSE information. Even after I was approved, they held my payments for "verification" for another 3 weeks!!!! Don't get your hopes up with these people. They're totally incompetent and don't care if we end up homeless while they take their sweet time.

•Ugh that sounds awful! Did you eventually get all your back payments? I'm owed over $5,200 at this point if I get approved.

I can clarify a few things about what you're seeing in your account: 1. A determination dated today means a decision has been finalized on your claim 2. The "waiting week" status for your first week is significant - this is only established for claims that are approved (denied claims don't set up a waiting week) 3. The "processing" status on subsequent weeks suggests the system is preparing to issue payment It's very likely you've been approved based on these indicators. The determination letters typically appear in your online account within 24 hours of the decision date. ESD does indeed run most of their system updates overnight between approximately 11pm-3am. Once your claim is approved, the payment process typically takes 2-3 business days. Continue filing your weekly claims during this period.
