Approved for standby but weekly claim option missing from ESD portal - help!

Super confused and hoping someone can help! I got approved for standby status on my unemployment claim last week (got the official letter and everything), but when I logged in to do my weekly claim today, the option just isn't there. The system shows I'm approved for standby through May 2025, but there's literally no way to file my weekly claim. I can see all my past claims, but no option to file a new one. I've tried logging out and back in, different browsers, even my phone - nothing works. Has this happened to anyone else? What am I missing? I need that payment to cover my mortgage next week!

I'm trying to file for last week (ended Saturday) and today is Tuesday. So I should definitely be able to file. It's just weird because all my other claims were fine, but now that I got approved for standby the option disappeared!

When exactly did you get approved for standby? Sometimes there's a system delay between when they approve you and when the system updates to allow weekly claims with standby status. If it was just approved in the last 48 hours, give it one more day and check again. Otherwise, there might be another issue with your claim that's blocking weekly claims.

I got the approval letter last Thursday (5 days ago). So it's been almost a week since then. My online account shows the standby approval through May 2025, so that part updated correctly. It's just the weekly claim button that's missing.

Ugh the phone lines are THE WORST. I spent 3 hours on hold last month and then they hung up on me when I finally got through. So frustrating!

This is a common issue with standby status claims. When you get approved for standby, the system sometimes puts your claim in a temporary hold status while it adjusts the requirements (since you don't need to do job searches on standby). Two things you should check: 1. Look under your "Alerts" or "Messages" section in your eServices account - there might be an action item you need to complete 2. Make sure you don't have any outstanding fact-finding questionnaires If everything looks clear, you'll need to call ESD directly. There's likely a small technical issue they need to fix on their end to reactivate your weekly claims filing ability.

Thank you! I checked alerts and messages and nothing is there. No questionnaires either. Looks like I'll have to call them... which is going to be a nightmare based on my past experiences.

I had this exact problem when I got standby approval during my seasonal layoff. After struggling to reach ESD for days, I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me through to an agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent told me that when standby is approved, sometimes the system needs a manual update to reconnect your weekly claim option. They fixed it in about 5 minutes once I got through. I was able to file all my missed weeks and got backpay for everything.

Thank you so much! I've never heard of this service before but I'm desperate at this point. Will definitely check it out - I can't afford to miss payments while waiting to get through to ESD.

ESD ALWAYS does this!!! The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing over there. They approve your standby but then don't update the system properly so you can't even file! And they expect us to just magically figure this out on our own. This is why I tell EVERYONE to screenshot EVERYTHING in the ESD system as proof. When you finally reach someone, they'll try to blame YOU for not filing on time even though THEIR system wouldn't let you!!!

Are you sure you're on standby and not just approved for benefits? They're different things. Standby means you don't have to look for work because you're going back to your employer soon, but you still need to file weekly claims. Just making sure we're talking about the same thing!

Yes, definitely standby! I got laid off from construction work for 6 weeks due to a project delay, and my employer requested standby so I can return to the same job when the materials arrive. The approval letter specifically says "standby approved through 05/15/2025" and mentions I don't need to do job searches.

One more thing to try before calling: Go to your settings and check if your claim is set to "active" status. Sometimes when standby is approved, the claim status shows as "pending" until you manually activate it for weekly claims. It's under Account Settings > Claim Status in some versions of eServices. If that doesn't work, definitely call ESD. When you reach them, specifically ask them to check if there's a "standby flag" correctly applied to your claim. Sometimes the approval letter goes out but the actual flag in their system isn't properly set.

I just checked and my claim status shows as "active" so that's not the issue. I'm going to try calling them tomorrow and if I can't get through, I'll try that Claimyr service someone mentioned. Will update here if I get it resolved in case it helps someone else!

UPDATE: Finally got through to ESD (used that Claimyr service and it actually worked pretty well). The agent said it was a known glitch in their system! Apparently when standby is approved, sometimes the computer system doesn't properly update the weekly claim filing permissions. She fixed it in just a few minutes and I was able to file for the past two weeks I missed. She said the payments should process normally now. Thanks everyone for your help!

Great to hear you got it resolved! This is definitely a common glitch in their system. For anyone else reading this in the future - if you get approved for standby and can't file weekly claims, don't panic, just contact ESD directly to have them fix the permission settings on your account.
