Just want to add that the base period thing can be confusing but there's actually an alternate base period option if you don't qualify under the standard one. It uses more recent wages but has stricter requirements.
That's good to know! So if recent work doesn't count under the regular base period, there might still be another option?
Bottom line - you need wages in at least 2 quarters during your base period, meet the minimum earnings threshold, and be unemployed through no fault of your own. Everything else is just details and special circumstances.
Bottom line for the OP - with 8 months of work you very likely qualify as long as you were working decent hours. Don't stress too much about it, just file when you become unemployed and let Washington ESD make the determination.
For what it's worth, once you understand how the waiting week works, it's pretty straightforward. Just think of it as your last week's payment instead of your first week's payment.
Thanks everyone for all the info about waiting weeks. This thread has been super helpful in understanding how it actually works versus what I thought it was supposed to do.
Final word of advice - when you do get approved for SNAP, the benefits come on an EBT card that works like a debit card at grocery stores. Super easy to use and nobody really notices or cares. Don't let pride keep you from getting help you need for your kids.
Really glad to see this discussion helped you out. And remember, if you run into any issues getting documents from Washington ESD for your SNAP application, Claimyr can help you actually talk to someone instead of waiting on hold forever. Worth checking out that demo video I mentioned earlier.

Remember to speak clearly and don't interrupt the judge or your employer during the hearing. Wait for your turn to respond to their claims. Being respectful and professional will only help your case.

•That's good advice about not interrupting. I tend to get worked up when I hear lies about what happened.

•I know it's hard but keeping your cool will serve you better than getting angry, even if they're completely wrong.

Good luck with your hearing! The fact that you're preparing and asking questions shows you're taking it seriously. That's half the battle right there.
