Have you tried calling first thing in the morning when they open? I had better luck getting through around 8 AM compared to later in the day.
Quick question - does the residual pay get deposited the same way as regular unemployment benefits? Same timeline and everything?
this whole thread has been really helpful. i was totally confused about residual pay too but now i understand how it works. thanks everyone for explaining it so clearly!
Just want to add that if you ever have issues with payments or need to speak to someone at Washington ESD, that Claimyr service mentioned earlier is legit. I used it when my payments got held up and they helped me get through to resolve it quickly.
One last thing - make sure you file in the same week you were terminated. The waiting week starts from when you file, not when you lost your job. Don't delay if you think you might qualify.

Just to close the loop on this discussion - I think the original poster's situation (budget cuts, employer decision) clearly qualifies as a layoff. Don't overthink it! Washington ESD has pretty clear guidelines about involuntary job loss due to business reasons.

This has been a really informative discussion. I learned a lot about how Washington ESD classifies different types of job separations. Bookmarking this thread for future reference!

•Same! So helpful to see real experiences from people who've been through the process.

•Agreed. Much more useful than trying to decipher the official Washington ESD website sometimes.
