To summarize the main disqualifying factors: voluntary quit without good cause, misconduct firing, insufficient work history, not able/available for work, refusing suitable work, fraud, and various income issues. But remember - most disqualifications can be appealed and many people win their appeals with proper documentation.
glad this thread helped! the whole unemployment system is so complicated but at least now you know what to watch out for. definitely file if you think you qualify - worst case they say no and you appeal
Good luck! The process can seem overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of filing your weekly claims, it becomes routine. Don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions.
Washington state has some of the better unemployment protections in the country. You should be fine as long as you follow the rules and file everything on time.
Best of luck with everything! Company closures are tough but it sounds like you're being smart about planning ahead. This community has given you great advice.
Same here, Claimyr saved my sanity when I was dealing with an adjudication issue. Much better than the regular phone system.
one last tip - take screenshots of everything! your weekly claim confirmations, your job search log, any correspondence from washington esd. if something goes wrong you'll need proof of what you submitted

Before you quit, have you considered looking for another job first? It might be easier to transition directly to new employment rather than dealing with the uncertainty of unemployment benefits.

•I've been looking but haven't found anything yet. The situation at work is getting worse and I'm not sure I can wait much longer.

•I understand that pressure. Just make sure you're prepared for the possibility that your unemployment claim might be denied initially.

The Washington ESD good cause standards are pretty strict. You really need to show that a reasonable person in your situation would have quit. It's not just about whether you were unhappy - it has to be something that made continuing to work unreasonable.

•That's a good way to think about it. I need to evaluate whether my situation would seem unreasonable to someone else looking at it objectively.

•Exactly. And remember that Washington ESD will look at whether you tried to resolve the issues before quitting. Did you complain to management or try to address the problems?
