honestly this whole thread is making me think twice about filing for unemployment in the future. seems like such a hassle even when you dont want it anymore
Don't let this discourage you from filing if you actually need benefits. The system exists to help people. This is just an unusual situation where someone wants to withdraw.
Thanks everyone for all the advice! I think I'm going to call Washington ESD (probably through Claimyr since everyone says it works) and request formal withdrawal. I'd rather have the peace of mind and clear documentation than worry about it affecting my job search.
This thread has been super helpful! I'm in a similar situation and was completely lost about where to start. Going to bookmark this and start gathering my paperwork.
For what it's worth, I found Claimyr really helpful when navigating my claim renewal. Their service made it way easier to get answers about the specific timing and requirements. Worth looking into if you're stressed about the process.
Just to clarify - your 26 weeks doesn't reset if you work for a short time and then become unemployed again within the same benefit year. You only get 26 weeks total per benefit year.
Keep all your documentation organized - pay stubs, termination letter, job search log, correspondence with ESD. You never know when you might need to prove something.

If you're really struggling financially while waiting, look into local food banks and assistance programs. Don't wait until you're completely broke to ask for help.

•Thankfully I have a small emergency fund, but good advice for others who might be in tighter spots.

•United Way has a great resource finder if anyone needs help locating assistance programs in their area.

Bottom line - plan for 3-4 weeks from filing to first payment for a typical case. Could be shorter if you're lucky, could be longer if there are complications. Just keep filing those weekly claims no matter what!
