Need help resetting Connect EBT security questions to lock card and prevent fraud

Hey everyone, I'm having trouble accessing my EBT account online. I forgot the answers to my security questions and now I can't log in to lock my card. I'm worried about potential fraud. Has anyone gone through the process of resetting their security questions for Connect EBT? Any tips on what to say when I call them?

Ugh, been there done that. It's such a pain to deal with these security questions. Here's what worked for me: 1. Call the EBT customer service number 2. Tell them you need to reset your security questions 3. They'll probably ask for some personal info to verify your identity 4. Be patient, it might take a while Good luck!

This is solid advice. I had to do this last month and it was pretty straightforward once I got someone on the phone.

How long did the whole process take for you? I'm dreading being on hold forever 😩

It took me about 30 minutes total, but I called early in the morning. Might be longer during peak hours.

I found a way to get someone on the phone quickly. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://www.claimyr.com

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? That's steep. Is it really worth it?

Here's a detailed guide on resetting your Connect EBT security questions: 1. Prepare your information: Have your EBT card number, Social Security number, and other personal details ready. 2. Call the EBT customer service: The number should be on the back of your card. 3. Navigate the automated system: Choose the option for account issues or speak to a representative. 4. Verify your identity: They'll ask for personal information to confirm it's you. 5. Request security question reset: Clearly state that you need to reset your security questions. 6. Follow their instructions: They may reset them over the phone or guide you through an online process. 7. Choose new questions and answers: Pick questions you'll remember but aren't easy for others to guess. 8. Confirm the changes: Make sure everything is updated before ending the call. 9. Test your login: Try logging in with your new security answers. 10. Set up additional security: Consider adding a PIN or enabling two-factor authentication if available. Remember to be patient and polite with the representatives. They're there to help! 😊

Anyone else worried about how easy it might be for scammers to reset our security questions? 😬 Feels like a double-edged sword.

That's why it's crucial to use strong, unique security questions and answers. Don't use info that's easily found online about you.

Fun fact: you can use emojis as answers to security questions. Makes em easier to remember and harder to guess. Like πŸ• for favorite food or 🐢 for first pet lmao

Just went through this process last week! One thing that really helped was calling right when they opened (usually 8 AM) to avoid the long wait times. Also, make sure you have your full SSN ready - they asked for all 9 digits, not just the last 4. The rep was actually pretty helpful once I got through. They walked me through creating new security questions and I was able to access my account the same day. Hope this helps! 🀞

@Kee Boone how did you get a rep on the phone?

β€’

@Ethan Brown I just want to add that when you call, make sure you're in a quiet place where you can clearly hear the rep. They might ask you to repeat your security question answers back to them to confirm, and with all the background noise sometimes it's hard to communicate properly. Also, don't hang up until you've successfully logged into your account online - I made that mistake once and had to call back because something didn't sync up right. Good luck getting it sorted out! πŸ™

This is really good advice about being in a quiet place! I learned that lesson the hard way when I had to call about my unemployment benefits - kept having to ask the rep to repeat everything because of noise. Also totally agree about not hanging up until you test the login. Better safe than sorry! @Ethan Brown hope you get this sorted out quickly 🀞

I've been through this exact same situation and it's definitely frustrating! One thing that really helped me was having my recent transaction history ready when I called - they asked about my last few purchases to verify my identity. Also, if you're worried about fraud in the meantime, you can call the number on your card to report it lost/stolen temporarily until you get back into your account. That way your benefits are protected while you sort out the security questions. The whole process took me about 45 minutes but it was worth the peace of mind. Hang in there!

Great tip about having transaction history ready! I didn't think about that for identity verification. The temporary lost/stolen report is also smart - protects your benefits while you're locked out. Thanks for sharing your experience! @Ethan Brown this might be really helpful for your situation πŸ‘

Just wanted to share my recent experience with this! I had the same issue a few months back and was really stressed about potential fraud too. What worked for me was calling the customer service line first thing in the morning (around 8 AM) when the wait times are shorter. Have your EBT card, SSN, and any recent transaction info handy - they use all of this to verify your identity before resetting anything. The rep I spoke with was actually really understanding about the situation and walked me through the whole process step by step. They let me choose completely new security questions and made sure I could log in successfully before ending the call. The whole thing took about 30 minutes once I got through to someone. Don't stress too much - this is apparently a pretty common issue and they're used to helping people with it! πŸ™‚

Adding to what others have said - I just went through this same process two weeks ago and wanted to share a couple extra tips that really helped me. First, when you call, they might ask you to verify some info about when/where you first got your EBT card, so try to remember those details if you can. Second, I found it helpful to have a pen and paper ready to write down the new security questions as I was setting them up - that way I could double-check I was entering the answers correctly. Also, after you get everything reset, consider taking a screenshot or photo of your security questions (obviously store it somewhere safe) so you don't run into this problem again. The customer service rep told me this happens to a lot of people, especially if you haven't logged in for a while, so don't feel bad about it! Hope this helps and you get it sorted out quickly! πŸ‘

This is really comprehensive advice @Paolo Ricci! The tip about having details ready about when/where you first got your card is something I wouldn't have thought of. And taking a screenshot of the security questions (stored securely) is brilliant - prevents this whole headache from happening again. Thanks for sharing all these practical tips! @Ethan Brown you re'getting some amazing help from this community πŸ’ͺ

I had a similar issue a few months ago and was really stressed about it too! Here's what worked for me: I called the customer service number early in the morning (around 7:30 AM) to avoid long wait times. Make sure you have your EBT card number, full SSN, date of birth, and your current address ready - they'll need all of this to verify your identity. When I explained that I couldn't remember my security question answers, the rep was actually really understanding and said it happens all the time. They walked me through resetting them over the phone, and I was able to choose completely new questions. The whole process took about 25 minutes once I got connected. One tip: write down your new security questions and answers somewhere safe right after you set them up! Also, they let me test logging into my account while still on the call to make sure everything worked. Don't worry - you'll get it sorted out! 😊

I went through this exact same thing last year and it was such a headache! One thing that really helped me was calling right when they opened at 8 AM - way shorter wait times. Make sure you have your EBT card number, full SSN, and recent transaction details ready because they'll ask for all of that to verify your identity. The rep I got was actually pretty patient and walked me through creating new security questions step by step. Pro tip: choose questions that are memorable to you but not easily guessable by others (avoid stuff like "mother's maiden name" that might be on your social media). Write down your new answers somewhere secure right after you set them up! The whole process took about 30 minutes but it was totally worth it for the peace of mind. You got this! πŸ™‚

Hey @Ethan Brown! I just want to echo what everyone else has said - this is definitely a solvable problem and you're not alone in dealing with it! I had to reset my security questions about 6 months ago and while it was frustrating at first, the customer service team was actually really helpful once I got through to them. A few things that made my experience smoother: I called right at 8 AM on a Tuesday (seemed less busy than Monday), had all my documents ready (EBT card, ID, recent bank statements showing EBT transactions), and made sure I was in a quiet room with good phone reception. The rep asked me to verify a bunch of personal info and some recent transactions, then let me create completely new security questions. One thing I wish someone had told me beforehand - they might put you on a brief hold while they process the reset, so don't panic if the line goes quiet for a few minutes! And definitely test your new login credentials before hanging up. You've gotten some amazing advice in this thread - sounds like you're all set for success! Let us know how it goes! 🀞✨

This is such a comprehensive and reassuring response! @StarSurfer really covered all the bases here. The tip about calling on a Tuesday instead of Monday is smart - I never would have thought about which day of the week might be less busy. And the heads up about potential hold time during processing is really helpful so @Ethan Brown doesn t'worry if the line goes quiet. It s'awesome seeing everyone in this community come together to help out with detailed advice and support! πŸ’ͺ

I've been seeing a lot of great advice here about calling early morning and having all your documents ready, which is spot on! One additional tip that saved me when I went through this - if you get disconnected during the call (it happened to me twice), ask for a reference number or case number before you start the process. That way if you have to call back, you can reference it and potentially avoid starting completely over. Also, some states have online chat support for EBT issues that might be faster than calling - worth checking your state's EBT website to see if that's an option. The fraud protection concern you mentioned is totally valid, so definitely get this sorted ASAP. Good luck! πŸ€

Great point about asking for a reference number! @Abigail bergen That s'such a smart tip that could save a lot of time and frustration. Getting disconnected and having to start over would be my worst nightmare. Hope you get it all sorted out quickly and can get back into your account safely πŸ™

Hey @Ethan Brown! Just wanted to add my experience to this thread since I literally went through the exact same thing last month. The whole security question lockout situation is so stressful, especially when you're worried about fraud! I ended up calling the customer service line around 7:45 AM on a Wednesday and only waited about 10 minutes to get through to someone. The rep was super helpful and understanding - apparently this happens ALL the time, so don't feel bad about it. They had me verify my identity with my EBT card number, full SSN, address, and asked about a couple recent transactions. The reset process was pretty straightforward once they verified who I was. They let me choose completely new security questions over the phone and made sure I could log in successfully before we hung up. Total time was maybe 20-25 minutes. One thing that really helped me was writing down potential security questions and answers beforehand so I wasn't scrambling to think of them on the spot. Also, I kept a pen and paper ready during the call to write everything down as we went. You've got this! The community has given you some amazing advice here. Definitely call first thing in the morning and you should be back in your account by tomorrow afternoon! πŸ’ͺ

@Oscar Murphy This is exactly the kind of detailed, reassuring advice that makes this community so helpful! Your timeline and step-by-step breakdown really shows @Ethan Brown that this is totally manageable. Thanks for sharing your recent experience and giving everyone realistic expectations about the process! πŸ™Œ

I just went through this same situation about 3 weeks ago and I totally understand the panic about potential fraud! Here's what worked for me: I called the EBT customer service line at exactly 8:00 AM on a Thursday morning and got through in about 15 minutes. Have your EBT card, full Social Security number, current address, and if possible, your last 2-3 transaction details ready - they'll use all of this to verify your identity. The rep was actually really patient and said forgotten security questions are one of their most common calls. They walked me through creating brand new security questions and I was able to pick ones that were more memorable for me. The whole process took about 35 minutes from start to finish, and they had me test logging into my account while still on the phone to make sure everything worked properly. Pro tip: As soon as you get your new security questions set up, write them down somewhere secure (I used a password manager app). Also, don't be surprised if they ask some detailed verification questions - they take security seriously which is actually a good thing! You should be able to get this resolved in one phone call. Good luck! 🀞

@Daniel Price This is incredibly helpful! Your detailed walkthrough really breaks down what to expect during the call, which I think will help ease @Ethan Brown s anxiety'about the process. The tip about using a password manager to store the new security questions is brilliant - way better than writing them on a random piece of paper that might get lost. It s also'reassuring to hear that the reps are patient and used to handling this issue. Sounds like calling early morning on a weekday is definitely the way to go based on everyone s experiences'here! πŸ‘

Just wanted to jump in here as someone who's been through this exact situation twice now! All the advice about calling early morning is absolutely spot on - I've had the best luck around 7:30-8:00 AM when the lines aren't as busy. One thing I'd add is to make sure you're calling from the phone number that's associated with your EBT account if possible, as that can sometimes help with verification. Also, while you're waiting to get this resolved, you might want to check if your state has a mobile app for EBT that might have different login options or a "forgot security questions" feature that could be faster than calling. Some states have updated their systems recently. The fraud concern is totally valid, but the good news is that EBT cards have pretty good fraud protection built in. Still, getting back into your account ASAP is definitely the right move. You've gotten some incredible advice in this thread - this community really knows how to help each other out! Let us know how it goes when you call! πŸ™

@Gabriel Graham That s'a really good point about calling from the phone number associated with your account! I hadn t'thought about that but it makes total sense for verification purposes. The mobile app suggestion is also smart - some of those apps do have different password reset options that might be easier than going through the phone system. It s'amazing how much helpful advice @Ethan Brown has gotten here! This thread is like a complete guide for anyone dealing with EBT security question issues. Really shows how supportive this community is when people are dealing with stressful situations like this πŸ’™

I just want to say how amazing this community is! @Ethan Brown you've gotten such incredible, detailed advice from everyone here. As someone who's been through government assistance headaches before, I know how stressful and overwhelming these situations can feel, especially when you're worried about fraud. Reading through all these responses, it's clear you have a solid game plan now: call early morning (around 8 AM), have all your documents ready (EBT card, SSN, recent transactions), be patient with the process, and don't hang up until you've tested your login. The fact that multiple people have shared similar positive experiences should give you confidence that this is totally solvable. It's also really reassuring to see how many people mentioned that customer service reps are understanding about this issue - apparently forgotten security questions are super common, so you definitely shouldn't feel bad about it happening to you. Wishing you the best of luck getting this sorted out quickly! Please update us on how it goes - I'm sure others will find your experience helpful too. This thread is going to be such a valuable resource for anyone else who runs into the same problem! πŸ™βœ¨
