Can't reset EDD account password - forgot security questions! Create new account?
I'm completely locked out of my EDD UI Online account! I forgot both my password AND my security question answers (I know, totally my fault). Been trying for 3 days to get back in. The password reset option keeps asking for security answers I don't remember setting up. My benefits are supposed to start next week and I'm freaking out!\n\nCan I just make a brand new account with my same SSN/info? Or will that mess things up even worse? Has anyone dealt with this nightmare before? What's the fastest way to recover access without security question answers?

DO NOT create a new account with the same SSN! That will flag your claim for fraud investigation and delay everything. You need to call EDD technical support directly at 1-833-978-2511 to have them reset your account access. They have specific authentication procedures for account recovery when you don't have security questions.

Thanks for the warning! I almost created a new account this morning. Ugh, I've been calling that number for 2 days and keep getting the 'too many callers' message. Is the tech support line different from the regular claims line?

A WEEK?? My certification is due in 5 days! Did he have to go to an office in person or something?

I went through this exact nightmare in February. The regular EDD lines are useless for account recovery issues - you need to specifically reach their technical support team. I was getting nowhere until I tried Claimyr (claimyr.com). It got me through to an actual EDD tech rep in about 20 minutes who verified my identity and reset everything. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km\n\nThe tech rep told me account lockouts are super common, especially if you haven't logged in for a while. They need to verify your identity beyond the security questions, but once they do, they can reset everything right away.

is that service legit? seems sketchy to use a third party for government stuff

It's just a call connection service, they don't access your EDD account or anything. They just help you get through the phone system to an actual EDD agent. The EDD staff are the ones who handle the account reset after verifying your identity.

When you're locked out of your UI Online account without security question answers, here's the official process:\n\n1. Call 1-833-978-2511 (technical support, not regular claims)\n2. Press 1 for English, then follow prompts to account access issues\n3. Have your ID, SSN, and claim info ready for verification\n4. They'll reset your password and security questions after verifying your identity\n\nMake sure to write down your new security question answers and store them somewhere secure! The tech team can usually handle this immediately if you reach them - the challenge is getting through the phone system.

Thank you for laying it all out! I've been pressing different options on the phone menu each time and probably making it harder to get through. Will try the technical support specific options tomorrow morning.

I HATE those security questions!!! They asked me stuff like my first pet's name and I've had like 5 cats growing up so which one did I use?? Then they asked about my favorite teacher but I put Mrs. Johnson and apparently I typed Ms. Johnson when I set it up??? The whole system is designed to lock people out!

Totally agree! One time I used my mom's maiden name but couldn't remember if I capitalized it or not. Got locked out for three days! 🤦♀️

UPDATE: Finally got through to EDD tech support this morning! Used the specific phone menu options that @user1 suggested and got through after about an hour on hold. The rep verified my identity with alternate questions (address, employer info, benefit amount) and reset everything. Account is working again!\n\nFor anyone else who gets locked out: DON'T create a new account, be patient and keep calling tech support. And definitely write down your security questions this time - I'm keeping mine in my password manager now.

Great news! Glad to hear you got it resolved before your certification was due. Always good to document those security answers somewhere secure.

So glad you got back in! This is such a common problem - I work at a local workforce development center and we see people locked out of their EDD accounts almost weekly. Your experience is exactly why we always tell people to save their security question answers in a secure note or password manager when they first set up the account. The EDD system is super sensitive about capitalization, spaces, and punctuation in those answers too. Thanks for sharing the update - it'll help other people know there's hope even when it seems impossible!

•That's really helpful to know about the workforce development center perspective! I had no idea this was such a widespread issue. Do you have any tips for people who are setting up their EDD accounts for the first time? Like specific things to avoid when creating security questions that might cause problems later? I'm thinking about sharing this thread with some friends who might be filing for unemployment soon.
