Can't access my EBT Edge account - forgot security answers for my new CalFresh benefits

Just got approved for CalFresh benefits (yay!) but running into an annoying technical issue. When I tried to create an account on EBT Edge to check my balance online, the system says I already have an existing account. Problem is, I set this up ages ago and have NO CLUE what security questions/answers I used. Been trying random answers for two days with no luck! I called the main EBT customer service number on my card (877 number) but the automated system just keeps looping me through menus without letting me talk to a real person about account access problems. I really don't want to keep checking my balance at ATMs or stores. Does anyone know who specifically handles the EBT Edge account issues? Is it my county caseworker or someone else? Any direct number I can call? Getting frustrated!

same thing happened 2 me last yr. the ebt edge thing is separate from calfresh but connected? idk its confusing. anyways u need 2 call ur county office directly not the ebt card number. tell them u need 2 reset ur ebt edge account bc u forgot security answers. they can do it but sometimes takes a few days

Thanks for responding! OK so I need to call my county office... ugh that's gonna be fun. Last time I tried it was like a 2-hour wait. Do you know if they have a direct line for tech support stuff like this?

The online EBT Edge portal is operated by a third-party company, not directly by the county. Your county worker can help reset your account access, but there's also a specific EBT Edge technical support line: 1-877-328-9677 (option 4 in the menu). Be prepared to verify your identity with your card number, DOB, last four of SSN, and address. Worth noting that you should update your EBT Edge security questions to something memorable this time around. Many people use the same security questions for multiple accounts, which might help you remember! Also, once you get access again, check if your contact info is current so you can get password reset emails in the future.

This is super helpful! I didn't realize there was a specific tech support option. I'll try pressing 4 next time. And yes, definitely going to use better security questions this time. I usually write them down somewhere but must have forgotten with this account.

lol I had this EXACT problem when I got approved back in october! the county office told me to call the EBT number but then the EBT people told me to call the county office 🙄 classic run around. ended up just making a new email address and trying to create a brand new account but that didnt work either. so frustrating!

If you're having trouble reaching someone at the county office about your EBT Edge account issues, you might want to try Claimyr. It's a service that will hold your place in line and call you back when a real person is available. Saved me hours of waiting when I had issues with my recertification last month. You can find info at claimyr.com and there's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 For EBT Edge specifically, sometimes you need to escalate past the regular caseworkers to someone in their technical department. The regular EBT card customer service can't help with the online portal issues in my experience.

Wow, I've never heard of this! Definitely checking it out because sitting on hold for hours is impossible with my work schedule. Thanks for the tip about needing the technical department too.

I used that service when I was trying to reach someone about my CalFresh documents. It worked pretty well but just make sure you're ready when they call you back! I missed my callback and had to start over 😩

have you tried just making a new account with a different email address? thats what i did and it worked fine

0 coins

Creating a new account with a different email won't work if your EBT card number is already registered in their system. The account is tied to the card number, not just the email. This is a security feature to prevent multiple accounts for the same benefit card.

I'd recommend going directly to your county office in person if possible! That's what I had to do with a similar issue. The phone systems are absolutely terrible, but when you show up in person, they usually have someone who can help with these technical problems right away. Bring your ID and EBT card with you. Also, while you're waiting for this to get sorted out, you can still check your balance by calling the number on the back of your card. It's not as convenient as the app, but at least you'll know how much you have available.

Going in person would be my last resort since the nearest office is 45 minutes away and I'd have to take time off work... but I'll keep it as an option if phone support doesn't work out. Good reminder about the phone balance check though!

why dont they just use normal password reset by email like every other website smh

UPDATE: I called the number that @BenefitsHelper suggested (1-877-328-9677) and pressed 4, then had to verify my identity. The rep was able to reset my security questions after asking me to verify my address, DOB, and the last 4 of my SSN. Now I can log in again! Thanks everyone for your help.

Glad you got it resolved! Smart move to post an update so others with the same issue can benefit from your experience. If you can, set up the mobile app too - it's much easier than the website for quick balance checks.

This is such a common issue! I went through the same frustration last year. The EBT Edge system is super confusing because it's managed by a third party but connected to your benefits. Here's what worked for me: 1. Try the EBT Edge tech support line at 1-877-328-9677 and press option 4 (like @BenefitsHelper mentioned) 2. If that doesn't work, contact your county office directly - they can reset your account from their end 3. As a last resort, visit your county office in person with your ID and EBT card Pro tip: Once you get back in, write down your security questions and answers somewhere safe! I learned that lesson the hard way. The mobile app is also way more user-friendly than the website once you get access again. Hope this helps and congrats on getting approved for benefits! 🎉

This is really helpful, thank you! I'm definitely going to try that tech support number first since a few people have mentioned it works. And yes, I'll absolutely write down my security questions this time - learned my lesson! Thanks for the congrats too, it's been a long process but worth it in the end.

Had a similar issue when I first got my benefits! The EBT Edge system is honestly a nightmare to navigate. What worked for me was calling that 1-877-328-9677 number and pressing 4 for tech support like others mentioned. They were actually pretty helpful once I got through to a real person. One thing I learned is that you can also reset your security questions through your county caseworker if the tech support line doesn't work out. Just be prepared with all your info - card number, SSN, address, etc. They're pretty strict about identity verification. Also, once you get back in, definitely set up the mobile app! It's way easier than dealing with the website for checking balances and transaction history. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I'm seeing a lot of people recommend that same tech support number, so that's definitely going to be my first try. Good point about having all my info ready - I'll make sure to gather everything beforehand so I don't get stuck during the verification process. And yes, definitely setting up the mobile app once I get access back! Appreciate the help!

I went through this exact same thing a few months ago and it was so frustrating! The EBT Edge system really needs better user experience design. What finally worked for me was calling that 1-877-328-9677 number everyone's mentioning and pressing 4 for technical support. The key thing is to have ALL your info ready before you call - your full card number, DOB, last 4 of SSN, current address, and even your zip code from when you first applied. They ask for everything to verify your identity before they'll reset anything. If you can't get through on that line, your county office can also handle EBT Edge account resets, but like others said, the wait times are brutal. I'd definitely try the tech support line first. Once you get back in, seriously consider setting up the mobile app and writing down your security questions somewhere safe. I use a password manager now for all this stuff. The whole experience taught me to be way more organized with account recovery info! Hope you get it sorted out soon - checking balances at the store gets old fast!

This is super thorough advice, thank you! I really appreciate you laying out exactly what info I need to have ready - I would have definitely been scrambling to find some of that during the call. The password manager idea is brilliant too, I should really start using one for all my benefit-related accounts. It's crazy how these systems make simple things like password resets so complicated! Fingers crossed the tech support line works for me.

Ugh, I feel your pain! This happened to me too when I first got my CalFresh benefits. The EBT Edge system is so poorly designed - like why can't they just have a simple "forgot password" email reset like literally every other website in 2025? I ended up calling that 1-877-328-9677 number that everyone's mentioning and pressing 4. The wait wasn't too bad (maybe 15 minutes?) and the tech support person was actually helpful. Just make sure you have your EBT card, ID, and know your address/DOB because they verify EVERYTHING before they'll help you. Pro tip: Once you get back in, screenshot your security questions or write them down somewhere. I learned that lesson the hard way when this happened to me again 6 months later! Also the mobile app is definitely way better than the website once you get access restored. Hang in there - I know it's frustrating but you'll get it sorted out!

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm definitely going to try that tech support number - seems like that's the consensus from everyone here. 15 minutes wait time doesn't sound too bad compared to what I was expecting. And yes, I'm absolutely going to write down those security questions this time! Can't believe I made that mistake in the first place. Really appreciate all the encouragement, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who's dealt with this headache!

I just went through this same nightmare last month! The EBT Edge system is honestly terrible - it's like they designed it to be as user-unfriendly as possible. What ended up working for me was calling 1-877-328-9677 and pressing 4 for technical support (thanks to everyone who shared that number!). The wait was about 20 minutes but the rep was actually helpful. They reset my security questions after verifying my identity with card number, DOB, last 4 SSN, and address. One thing I learned is that if the tech support line is busy, you can also try calling early morning (like 8am) or later in the evening - seems like fewer people are calling then. Definitely write down your new security questions somewhere safe once you get back in! I use a notes app on my phone now with all my account recovery info. And yeah, get the mobile app once you're back in - so much easier than the website. Good luck! I know how frustrating this is but you'll get it sorted out soon.

Thanks for the timing tip! I never thought about calling at specific times to avoid busy periods - that's really smart. 8am sounds doable for me since I'm usually up early anyway. The notes app idea is great too, much better than trying to remember where I wrote something down on paper. Really appreciate you sharing what worked for you, gives me hope that I can get this resolved without too much more hassle!

I had this exact same problem when I got my benefits earlier this year! So frustrating when you just want to check your balance online. Here's what worked for me: Call 1-877-328-9677 and press 4 for EBT Edge technical support (not the regular EBT customer service). Have your card number, DOB, last 4 of SSN, and current address ready because they'll verify everything before helping you reset your security questions. If that line is busy, try calling early morning around 8am or after 6pm - way less wait time in my experience. Also, once you get back in, definitely set up the mobile app instead of using the website. It's so much more user-friendly and you can check your balance quickly without all the security question hassles. And please learn from my mistake - write down your new security questions somewhere safe! I use a password manager now for all my benefit account info. Hang in there, I know it's annoying but you'll get it sorted out! Congrats on getting approved for CalFresh btw! 🎉

Thank you so much for all the detailed advice! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I'm going to try calling that 1-877-328-9677 number first thing tomorrow morning around 8am with all my info ready. It's really reassuring to see so many people have dealt with this same issue and gotten it resolved. I definitely learned my lesson about writing down security questions - going straight into a password manager once I get access back! And thanks for the congrats, it's been quite a journey but worth it. Really appreciate everyone in this community being so helpful! 🙏

I went through this exact same issue about 6 months ago! The EBT Edge system is honestly one of the most frustrating things about getting benefits. Here's what finally worked for me: Call 1-877-328-9677 and press 4 for technical support (like several others have mentioned). The key is having ALL your verification info ready before you call - EBT card number, DOB, last 4 digits of SSN, current address, and even your zip code from when you first applied. They're super thorough with identity verification. If you get a busy signal, try calling right when they open (usually 8am) or later in the evening around 7pm. I found the wait times were much shorter during those times. Once you get back in, please do yourself a favor and: 1. Write down your security questions and answers in a secure place (I use a password manager now) 2. Download the mobile app - it's way better than the website 3. Update your contact info so you can get password reset emails in the future The whole system really needs an overhaul but at least there are workarounds. You'll get through this! And congrats on getting approved - that's the hardest part behind you! 🎉

This is such comprehensive advice, thank you! I'm definitely going to call first thing tomorrow morning at 8am with all my documents ready. It's amazing how many people have gone through this same frustrating experience - makes me feel less alone in dealing with this mess! The password manager suggestion keeps coming up so I'm definitely getting one set up once I regain access. Really appreciate everyone being so supportive and sharing what actually worked for them. Fingers crossed I can get this resolved quickly! 🤞

I just went through this exact same situation a couple weeks ago! It's so frustrating when you just want to check your balance online. Here's what worked for me: Definitely call 1-877-328-9677 and press 4 for EBT Edge technical support (like everyone else has mentioned). I had the best luck calling right at 8am when they open - only waited about 10 minutes vs hours during peak times. Make sure you have everything ready: your full EBT card number, DOB, last 4 of SSN, current address, and zip code. They verify EVERYTHING before they'll help reset your security questions. Once you get back in, seriously write down those security questions somewhere safe! I made the same mistake and had to go through this whole process. Now I keep all my benefit account info in a password manager. Also get the mobile app once you're back in - it's so much easier than the website for quick balance checks. You can even set up notifications for when your benefits are loaded each month. Hang in there, I know it's annoying but the tech support people are actually pretty helpful once you get through to them. You'll have this sorted out soon! And congrats on getting approved - that's the hardest part! 🎉

This is exactly what I needed to hear! I'm definitely calling at 8am tomorrow with all my info ready. It's so reassuring to see everyone sharing the same solution - gives me confidence it'll actually work. I'm 100% getting a password manager after this whole ordeal, can't believe I didn't think of that before. And yes, the mobile app sounds way more convenient than dealing with the website. Thanks for the encouragement and the congrats! This community has been incredibly helpful, I really appreciate everyone taking the time to share their experiences! 🙏

Just wanted to chime in as someone who dealt with this exact same frustrating situation! The EBT Edge system really is a nightmare to navigate when you get locked out. I see everyone's already given you the golden solution - call 1-877-328-9677 and press 4 for technical support. That's exactly what worked for me too! The key things that made the difference: 1. Call right at 8am when they open - I only waited about 12 minutes vs the horror stories of multi-hour waits 2. Have EVERYTHING ready: full card number, DOB, last 4 SSN, current address, and zip code from your application 3. Be patient with the verification process - they're thorough but it's for your protection Once you get back in, definitely learn from all our mistakes and write those security questions down somewhere secure! I now use a password manager for all my benefit accounts after going through this headache. The mobile app is also a game-changer once you regain access - so much smoother than the clunky website. You've got this! It's annoying but totally solvable. And huge congrats on getting approved for CalFresh - that's the biggest hurdle behind you now! 🎉

Thanks so much for adding your experience to the thread! It's really helpful to see the consistency in what works - definitely gives me confidence that calling at 8am with all my info ready is the way to go. I'm relieved to hear the wait was only 12 minutes when you called early, that makes it feel much more manageable. I've already started gathering all my documents so I'll be ready to go tomorrow morning. Really appreciate everyone in this community sharing their solutions - it's amazing how supportive everyone has been! Can't wait to finally get this resolved and move on to actually using my benefits properly! 🙏

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! Just got approved for CalFresh last week and can't access my EBT Edge account either. I must have set it up years ago and completely forgot my security questions. Reading through all these responses, it sounds like calling 1-877-328-9677 and pressing 4 for tech support is definitely the way to go. I'm going to try calling first thing tomorrow morning at 8am with all my info ready - card number, DOB, last 4 SSN, address, etc. It's so frustrating that they don't just have a simple email password reset like every other website! But at least now I know I'm not the only one who's been through this headache. Thanks everyone for sharing what actually worked - gives me hope I can get this sorted out quickly. Definitely planning to write down my security questions this time and set up a password manager. Lesson learned!

Welcome to the "forgot my EBT Edge security questions" club! 😅 It's honestly crazy how many of us have been through this exact same frustrating experience. You're definitely on the right track with that 1-877-328-9677 number - it seems like literally everyone here has had success with it. The 8am timing tip is gold too. I tried calling during lunch time once and was on hold forever, but early morning seems to be the sweet spot. Make sure you have absolutely everything ready before you dial because they really do verify every single detail. And yes, definitely get a password manager after this! I can't believe how many of us learned this lesson the hard way. The mobile app is also way better than the website once you get back in. Good luck tomorrow morning - you've got this! And congrats on getting approved, that's the hardest part behind you! 🎉

Oh wow, reading through this thread is like looking at my own story! I'm literally going through the exact same thing right now - just got approved for CalFresh two weeks ago and cannot for the life of me remember what security questions I set up on EBT Edge ages ago. I've been trying random answers for days and getting nowhere. So frustrating when you just want to check your balance without having to go to the store every time! Thanks to everyone who shared that 1-877-328-9677 number with option 4 - I had no idea there was a specific tech support line for EBT Edge issues. I'm definitely calling tomorrow morning at 8am with all my documents ready. It's really reassuring to see so many people have gotten this resolved the same way. I'm also 100% getting a password manager after this nightmare is over. Can't believe I made the same mistake as so many others here! Fingers crossed the early morning call works - will update if I have any luck! 🤞
