SSI account login loop - system asks to create account after logging in. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm having a really frustrating issue with my SSI account. When I try to log in, it recognizes that I have an account, but after the second step, it suddenly tells me I need to create an account. It's like I'm stuck in some kind of login loop. I've tried clearing my browser cache and using different browsers, but nothing seems to work. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on what I should do or say when I finally get through to someone?

Ugh, I've been there. The SSA website can be such a pain sometimes. Have you tried using a different device, like your phone or a tablet? Sometimes that works for me when my computer is being weird.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll give that a shot. It's just so frustrating when you need to access important info and the system won't cooperate 😤

I second this! Using my phone worked when I had a similar issue. Good luck, OP!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the URL: https://www.claimyr.com

Sounds kinda sketchy. Is it legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. I was desperate after waiting on hold for hours. It's worth it if you need to talk to someone ASAP.

How long did it take for them to connect you? I'm considering trying this out.

It took about 45 minutes for me, which was way better than the 3+ hours I spent trying to get through on my own. Your mileage may vary tho.

Here's what you should say when you get through: 1. Explain that you're having trouble accessing your SSI account. 2. Tell them it asks you to create an account after logging in. 3. Mention that you've tried clearing your browser cache and using different browsers. 4. Ask if there's an issue with your account or if they can guide you on next steps. Be polite but firm, and don't hang up until you get a solution or a clear next step. Good luck!

This is super helpful, thank you so much! I'll definitely use this script when I call. 🙏

Great advice! I'd also suggest asking for a reference number for the call, just in case you need to follow up later.

lol welcome to the wonderful world of government websites 🤡 I swear they make these things difficult on purpose

Have you tried resetting your password? Sometimes that can kick the system into recognizing your account properly. It's a long shot, but might be worth trying before you spend hours on the phone.

I haven't tried that yet, actually. Good idea! I'll give it a shot before I call. Thanks!

Ive been dealing with this exact issue for WEEKS. its so frustrating!!! i finally got through to someone last thursday and they said it was a 'known issue' theyre working on. fat lot of good that does us tho 🙄

Weeks?! That's ridiculous. Did they give you any timeline for when it might be fixed?

Nope, just the usual 'we're working on it' bs. I'm so done with this whole system 😤

Pro tip: if you can't get through online, try calling your local SSA office instead of the main number. Sometimes they can help you over the phone or set up an in-person appointment if needed. Google 'SSA field office locator' to find the closest one to you.

Oh, that's a great idea! I didn't even think about trying the local office. Thanks for the tip!

I had this exact same issue a few months ago! It turned out my account had some kind of verification flag that was causing the loop. What finally worked for me was calling the SSA technical support line (1-800-772-1213) and specifically asking to speak to someone in the "online services" department. They were able to reset something on their end that fixed the login issue immediately. The whole call took about 30 minutes once I got through. Definitely mention that you've already tried different browsers and clearing cache - that shows you've done the basic troubleshooting steps.
