TWC payment schedule: Weekly or bi-weekly unemployment payments after first deposit?

Just got my first unemployment payment from TWC yesterday (yay finally!) but now I'm confused about when to expect the next one. Do I get paid every week or every two weeks? My friend said he got payments weekly but my sister-in-law said hers came every two weeks. The TWC website is super confusing on this. I know I need to request payment every two weeks, but does that mean I get one lump sum for both weeks or separate weekly payments? Really need to budget properly since I've got rent coming up!

You request payment every two weeks but TWC pays weekly. So when you make your payment request for the two-week period, you'll get two separate payments - one for each week. Each payment posts separately to your account, usually 2-3 days apart. That's why some people think it's bi-weekly, but it's actually just how they process the two weeks worth of payments.

Oh that makes sense! So when I request payment again in 2 weeks, I should expect two separate deposits a few days apart? Does that mean I might get one payment right away and have to wait for the second one?

Thanks! I'll keep an eye on my account then. The first one came through pretty fast after my request.

The TWC system is DELIBERATELY CONFUSING!! They make you REQUEST every two weeks but then pay WEEKLY amounts to try and trip people up! I've been on unemployment 3 times and they ALWAYS do this! They're hoping you'll miss a payment request date and then they can deny you benefits. Make sure you request EXACTLY on your designated day or you'll regret it!!!

This! I messed up my request date once and it was a nightmare getting back on track.

It's not actually designed to be confusing - it's just that they process each week separately for accounting purposes. Your payment request covers a two-week period, but their system issues separate payments for each eligible week. The request schedule is based on the last digit of your Social Security number.

To clarify what everyone is saying: TWC pays weekly benefits but you request payment every two weeks. This means after each payment request, you'll receive two separate deposits for each eligible week. The confusion happens because: 1. You request payment for a two-week period 2. TWC reviews each week separately 3. They issue separate payments for each eligible week 4. Payments typically arrive 2-3 business days after your request 5. The two payments often arrive on different days If you have direct deposit, the two payments might arrive 1-2 days apart. If you're using the TWC debit card, they might load on the same day. Just make sure you're submitting your work search activities (minimum 3 per week) and requesting payment on your designated day every two weeks. You can find your payment request schedule in your TWC correspondence or online account.

Thank you for such a detailed explanation! This makes perfect sense now. I'm doing direct deposit, so I'll watch for two separate payments. I've got my work search activities logged - definitely doing more than 3 per week just to be safe.

I had the exact same confusion when I started getting TWC benefits last month! You'll get weekly payments but you request them every two weeks. So after each request, you'll get two separate deposits. By the way, if you're having trouble reaching TWC with questions (their phone lines are AWFUL), I found this service called Claimyr that got me through to a live agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days calling. Check out their demo: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh or their website claimyr.com. Saved me so much frustration when I had payment issues last month!

Thank you for explaining! And that service sounds really helpful - I spent hours trying to get through last week with no luck. Going to check out that video because I have a feeling I'll need to call them at some point.

Does that Claimyr thing actually work? I've been trying to get through to TWC for 3 days about my work search exemption.

@profile8 Yes, it definitely worked for me. I was skeptical too but I got through to an agent in about 18 minutes when I'd been trying for days before that. They basically keep dialing for you so you don't have to sit there hitting redial all day.

My sister had this same question when she got laid off. The TWC system is weird because they pay weekly but you request biweekly and sometimes people get confused. But yeah you'll get two separate payments after each request, usually a day or two apart. Just make sure you keep doing your work searches every week (3 per week minimum in TX) and request payment on your assigned day every two weeks and you should be fine!

Thanks for confirming! Definitely staying on top of the work search activities. I actually have a job interview tomorrow, so fingers crossed!

i think everyones situation is different... i get one payment for both weeks but my roomate gets two separate ones. maybe depends on how much ur getting?

This is incorrect. Everyone on regular unemployment benefits (UI) receives separate payments for each week, though they may sometimes arrive on the same day if you're using the TWC debit card. The system processes each week individually even though you request payment for a two-week period. The amount doesn't affect this process.

Thank you all for the helpful responses! I understand now - I'll be requesting payment every two weeks but receiving weekly payments (two separate deposits after each request). I've got my payment request day marked on my calendar so I don't miss it. Hopefully I won't be on unemployment for long anyway - got two interviews lined up this week!

Good luck with your interviews! That's awesome that you already have two lined up. And yes, you've got the payment system figured out now - weekly deposits but biweekly requests. Just remember to keep logging those work search activities even while you're interviewing, since TWC requires them until your benefits end. Hope one of those interviews works out for you!

Just to add another perspective - I've been getting TWC payments for about 6 weeks now and can confirm what everyone's saying. You'll get two separate weekly payments after each biweekly request. Mine usually hit my account on Tuesday and Wednesday after I request on Sunday. One tip: set up text alerts through your bank so you know exactly when each payment arrives - really helps with budgeting! Also, good luck with those interviews - sounds like you're already doing great with the job search part!

0 coins

That's a really good tip about setting up text alerts! I didn't think of that but it would definitely help me keep track of when each payment comes in. I'll set that up with my bank today. And thanks for the encouragement about the interviews - I'm nervous but excited to hopefully get back to work soon!

Hey Olivia! Congrats on getting your first payment - that's always such a relief! Everyone here has given you great info. I just wanted to add that I keep a simple calendar note for my payment request dates (every 2 weeks) and then mark when I expect the two weekly deposits to hit (usually 2-3 business days after requesting). This has helped me plan my budget so much better since I know exactly when money is coming in. Also, since you mentioned rent coming up - just remember that your weekly benefit amount stays the same each week, so you can calculate exactly how much you'll have for budgeting. Best of luck with those interviews - sounds like you're being proactive about getting back to work!

That's such a smart system! I'm definitely going to start keeping track like that. You're right about being able to calculate exactly what's coming in - that'll make budgeting so much easier, especially with big expenses like rent. Thanks for the encouragement about the interviews too! I'm trying to stay positive and proactive about the whole situation. It's nice to have this community to help figure out all the TWC quirks.

I went through the same confusion when I first started getting TWC benefits! The system definitely isn't intuitive. You've got it right now though - you'll request payment every two weeks but receive two separate weekly deposits. I found it helpful to think of it this way: TWC pays you for each individual week you're eligible, but they batch your requests into two-week periods to make the process more manageable. So after each biweekly request, you'll see two deposits show up in your account, usually 1-3 days apart depending on your bank. I use direct deposit and mine typically come on Tuesday and Thursday after I request on Sunday. Good luck with those interviews - it sounds like you're already on the right track with your job search!

That's a really helpful way to think about it - TWC paying for each individual week but batching the requests! That makes the whole system make so much more sense. I like your schedule too (Sunday request, Tuesday/Thursday payments) - gives me a good idea of what to expect timing-wise. I'm definitely feeling more confident about managing this whole process now thanks to everyone's explanations. Hopefully I won't need to worry about it for too much longer if these interviews go well!

I'm new to TWC unemployment and this thread has been incredibly helpful! I just filed my initial claim last week and am still waiting for my first payment, but now I understand what to expect. So just to make sure I have this right: once I start receiving benefits, I'll request payment every two weeks but get two separate weekly deposits a few days apart? That actually sounds better for budgeting than one big lump sum every two weeks. Also seeing everyone mention the work search requirements - I've been keeping detailed records of my job applications just in case. Thanks for all the clear explanations everyone, especially about the timing of when payments typically hit accounts!

Yes, you've got it exactly right! You'll request every two weeks but receive two separate weekly deposits, usually 2-3 days apart. And you're smart to keep detailed job search records - TWC requires at least 3 work search activities per week, so having good documentation will save you headaches later. The separate weekly payments are actually great for budgeting because you get a steady flow instead of waiting two full weeks between payments. Hope your first payment comes through soon - that initial waiting period is always nerve-wracking!

Welcome to the TWC world! You've got it exactly right - you'll request payment every two weeks but receive two separate weekly deposits. I've been on TWC benefits for about 4 months now and can confirm this is how it works. The two payments usually arrive 1-2 days apart (mine typically come Tuesday and Wednesday after I request on Sunday). One thing that really helped me was setting up a simple spreadsheet to track my payment request dates and when the deposits hit my account. This way I could see the pattern and budget accordingly. Also, since you mentioned keeping job search records - that's super smart! I use a simple notebook to log my 3+ weekly activities with dates, company names, and what I did (applied, called, etc.). TWC can ask for these records at any time, so having them organized from the start is definitely the way to go. Good luck with your first payment - hopefully it processes quickly! The waiting is always the hardest part, but once you're in the system it becomes pretty routine.

Thanks for the welcome and all the detailed advice! A spreadsheet is a brilliant idea - I'm definitely going to set that up to track my payment dates and deposits. It'll be so much easier to see the pattern once I get a few cycles under my belt. And I love the notebook idea for job search activities too. I've been using a Word document but a physical notebook might be more reliable and easier to reference quickly. Really appreciate you sharing what's worked for you over the past 4 months - it's reassuring to hear from someone who's been through the whole process successfully!

Just wanted to chime in as someone who's been navigating TWC for a few months now - you've definitely got the right understanding from all the great explanations here! The weekly payments but biweekly requests threw me off at first too. One thing I'd add is that if you ever have issues with a payment not showing up when expected, don't panic right away. Sometimes banks process deposits at different times, and I've had payments arrive as late as Friday after a Sunday request (though that's rare). Also, since you mentioned budgeting for rent - I found it helpful to treat the unemployment payments like a regular paycheck and immediately move money into separate "envelopes" for rent, groceries, etc. when each weekly payment hits. That way I'm not tempted to spend rent money and then come up short! Sounds like you're already being super responsible about the whole situation though. Fingers crossed those interviews work out for you!

That's really smart advice about the "envelope" budgeting system! I never thought about immediately separating the money when each payment hits, but that makes so much sense - especially since rent is due on a specific date regardless of when my payments come in. I've been worried about accidentally spending money I need for bills, so I'm definitely going to try your approach. And good to know that payments can sometimes take until Friday - I would have probably panicked if a payment was late! Thanks for sharing what you've learned over the past few months. It's so helpful to hear practical tips from people who've actually been doing this for a while.

This thread has been so helpful! I'm also new to TWC unemployment and was confused about the payment schedule. Reading everyone's experiences really clarifies things. Just to confirm my understanding: I'll request payment every two weeks for a two-week period, but TWC will send me two separate weekly payments a few days apart, right? I love all the practical tips here too - the spreadsheet tracking, envelope budgeting system, and keeping detailed work search records in a notebook. I'm definitely going to implement these strategies from the start. It's reassuring to see how supportive this community is in helping each other navigate the TWC system. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

You've got it exactly right! That's the perfect summary - request every two weeks, receive two separate weekly payments. I'm glad this thread helped clarify everything for you too. All those practical tips mentioned here are genuinely game-changers. I started using the spreadsheet method after reading about it here and it's made such a difference in staying organized. The envelope budgeting approach is brilliant too - helps avoid that panic of "did I spend my rent money?" The work search notebook is probably the most important tip though - TWC can request those records without warning, so having everything documented from day one is crucial. Welcome to the community and best of luck with your unemployment journey!

This is such a great thread! I've been on TWC for about 2 months now and can definitely confirm what everyone is saying. You request payment every two weeks but receive two separate weekly deposits. One thing I'd add that really helped me - download your bank's mobile app if you don't already have it, and turn on push notifications for deposits. This way you'll know immediately when each weekly payment hits instead of constantly checking your balance. My payments usually come on Tuesday and Thursday after I request on Sunday. Also, since you mentioned having interviews lined up - make sure you're still logging those interviews as work search activities! They count toward your required 3 per week, and if you get hired, you'll need to report your last day of unemployment when you do your final payment request. Good luck with the interviews! Sounds like you won't need to worry about the TWC payment schedule much longer anyway! 🤞

That's such a smart tip about the push notifications! I definitely need to set that up - I've been manually checking my account multiple times a day which is probably driving me crazy for no reason. And you're absolutely right about logging the interviews as work search activities - I hadn't thought about that but it makes perfect sense that they would count toward the weekly requirement. Thanks for the encouragement about the interviews too! I'm really hoping one of them works out so I can get back to a regular paycheck instead of navigating all these TWC quirks. This community has been incredibly helpful in making sense of everything!

I went through this exact same confusion when I first started getting TWC benefits! Everyone here has explained it perfectly - you'll request payment every two weeks, but you'll receive two separate weekly deposits (usually 1-3 days apart). One additional tip that saved me a lot of stress: create a simple calendar reminder not just for your payment request date, but also for the expected deposit dates. I mark my request day, then mark the following Tuesday-Thursday as "expect deposits" so I'm not anxiously checking my account every hour. Also, if you're using direct deposit, make sure your bank info is 100% correct in your TWC account - any small error can delay payments significantly. I learned that the hard way! Congrats on getting your first payment and best of luck with those interviews! It sounds like you're handling everything really well.

That calendar reminder system is genius! I've been so focused on just remembering my request date that I didn't think about marking when to expect the actual deposits. That would definitely help reduce the anxiety of constantly checking my account. And you're absolutely right about double-checking the bank info - I can imagine how stressful it would be to have payments delayed because of a typo or something. I went through my direct deposit details twice after reading your comment just to be sure! Thanks for sharing that hard-learned lesson. It's amazing how many little details there are to keep track of with this system, but everyone's tips are making it so much more manageable.

This thread has been incredibly helpful as someone who's also navigating TWC for the first time! I just wanted to add one more tip that's been a lifesaver for me - if you're using the TWC debit card instead of direct deposit, the two weekly payments often load on the same day but show up as separate transactions. So don't worry if you see two smaller amounts instead of one big deposit - that's totally normal! Also, I keep a screenshot of my payment request confirmation page each time I submit, just in case there are ever any issues with TWC claiming they didn't receive my request. It's saved me once already when there was a glitch in their system. Olivia, sounds like you've got everything figured out now and those interviews sound promising - hoping you get some good news soon!

That's such a useful tip about the TWC debit card - I was wondering how that would work differently from direct deposit! And screenshotting the confirmation page is brilliant - I never would have thought of that but it makes total sense to have that backup documentation just in case. TWC's system seems to have glitches pretty regularly based on what I've read here, so having proof of submission could definitely save a lot of headaches down the road. Thanks for sharing that experience! It's amazing how many little strategies people have developed to navigate this system smoothly. I'm definitely going to start taking screenshots of my confirmations too.
