TWC approval call today - how fast will payment arrive? Can debit card be expedited?

I'm freaking out y'all! I just got off the phone with a TWC examiner who called to ask about my separation from my last job (I was laid off from an accounting firm last month). He asked a bunch of questions about why I left and then said I should get either an approval or denial determination TODAY. I wasn't expecting things to move so fast! If I do get approved: 1. How long after the approval do payments actually hit your account? 2. Can you expedite the TWC debit card delivery somehow? I'm seriously running low on funds. 3. Does the first payment include all backdated weeks since filing? This whole process has been so confusing and I'm just anxious to know when I might actually see some money. Thanks for any help!

If your determination is approved today, the payment process typically begins overnight. Most people see their first payment within 2-3 business days if using direct deposit. If you're getting the TWC debit card, that's a whole different timeline because they have to mail it to you first, which can take 7-10 business days. And yes, your first payment should include all the eligible weeks you've requested payment for since your claim effective date.

Thanks for the quick response! Darn, I didn't set up direct deposit because I wasn't sure how. So I'm stuck waiting for the card I guess? Is there any way to switch to direct deposit at this point?

Ugh, 2 weeks?! I can't wait that long. My rent is due next week!

You can absolutely switch to direct deposit even after your claim is approved. Log into your TWC account, go to Payment Option and select Direct Deposit. You'll need your bank routing and account numbers. As for expediting the debit card - yes, it's possible. Once your claim shows as approved in the system, call the ReliaCard customer service at 800-657-6343. They can rush-ship a card for a small fee (around $15). It'll come in about 2 business days instead of 7-10. But honestly, direct deposit is faster overall. If you set that up today, any payments will go straight to your bank account, even before the card arrives.

This is super helpful! I'm setting up direct deposit right now. But I'll probably still call about expediting the card just as a backup in case something goes wrong with the direct deposit.

when i got approved last year it took about 3 days for money to hit my account. they do pay all the back weeks but make sure you've been doing your work searches (3 per week) and requesting payment when you're supposed to! i missed a payment request date and it was a nightmare to fix.

I've been doing my work searches religiously! I have a spreadsheet tracking every application. And I've requested payment both times on my assigned days. Hopefully that means everything will go smoothly!

The TWC debit card system is absolutely horrible. When I tried to get mine expedited last year, I spent 6 HOURS trying to get through to someone. Finally gave up and had to wait the full 10 days. The system is designed to frustrate people so they give up on their benefits. If you need to actually REACH a TWC agent about your claim or the card issue, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to TWC without waiting for hours. Saved me so much stress during my claim issues. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh

Just a heads up - even if you switch to direct deposit now, your first payment might still go to the ReliaCard. Their system sometimes takes a payment cycle to update payment methods. So don't panic if that happens! Your second payment will definitely go to direct deposit. This happened to me and i thought something was wrong but it was just their system being slow to update.

Thanks for the warning! I'll keep that in mind and not panic if the first payment isn't in my bank account. I just hope I actually get approved today like the examiner said.

Good luck with ur claim! Mine got approved in like 30 min after the phone interview but I know some people who had to wait a few days. Just check ur correspondence inbox on the TWC portal, thats where the determination letter shows up first

30 minutes?! That would be amazing. I've been refreshing my correspondence inbox every 5 minutes since the call ended lol. So nervous!

Just to follow up - did you get your determination letter yet? If approved, make sure you continue requesting payments on your assigned days. Even after approval, missing a payment request can cause delays and complications with your claim.

Yes!! Just got the approval about an hour ago! I'm so relieved. I've already set up direct deposit and called about expediting the card just in case. My next payment request day is Monday, so I'll make sure to do that on time. Thanks everyone for all your help!
