How long for TWC payment to appear on ReliaCard? First time direct deposit user

I just switched to direct deposit for my TWC benefits and I'm supposed to receive payment via the U.S. Bank ReliaCard. My payment request was processed yesterday but I don't see anything in my account yet. This is my first time using direct deposit (was getting paper checks before) and I'm getting anxious since rent is due soon. For anyone using ReliaCard - how long does it typically take for the payment to show up? Is there a way to check if it's being processed or did I mess something up when setting up direct deposit?

The first payment to your ReliaCard usually takes 2-3 business days to process after TWC releases the funds. If your payment request was just processed yesterday, I wouldn't worry yet. Once the card is activated and you've received your first payment, future deposits typically appear within 1-2 business days. Make sure you've activated your ReliaCard - they should have mailed it to you. You can check the status of your payment on the TWC portal under Payment Information.

Thanks! I did get the card in the mail and activated it last week. I just wasn't sure about the timing. My TWC account shows 'payment processed' but nothing about when it should hit the card. I'll give it another day or two then.

congrats on making the switch! paper checks are such a hassle lol. my payments usually show up like 1-2 days after TWC processes them. sometimes its there next morning, sometimes takes a full 48 hrs. you can download the reliacard app to check balance too

Oh I didn't know there was an app! Just downloaded it but it's asking for a card number and I don't have the card with me right now. Will check when I get home. Yeah paper checks were a pain especially when mail was delayed.

THEY ALWAYS TAKE FOREVER WITH THE FIRST PAYMENT!!!! My first one took almost 5 business days and I was FREAKING OUT. Called TWC like 20 times and couldn't get through to anyone. After the first one though, my money shows up super fast now, like 1 day after. But that first one is always slow for some reason. The system is so broken!!!

same! first one took 4 days for me too but now its always next day. weird how they do that

If you're in a hurry to speak with someone at TWC to confirm your payment status, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. After struggling to get through to TWC for days about my ReliaCard issue, I used their service and got connected to a TWC agent in about 15 minutes. They basically call TWC for you and when they reach an agent, they connect you. Saved me from constant busy signals and hold times. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh

I might try that if I don't see the money by Friday. Getting pretty nervous since rent is due on the 1st. Has anyone else used this service?

I used it last month when my claim was stuck in pending. it works but honestly if your payment is already showing as processed in your TWC account you probably just need to wait the 2-3 days everyone's talking about. save yourself the trouble unless something actually goes wrong

Here's the actual timeline from TWC policy: 1. TWC processes your payment request (what you're seeing in your account now) 2. Funds are released to U.S. Bank (usually within 24 hours) 3. U.S. Bank processes the deposit to your ReliaCard (1-2 business days) So total time: 2-3 business days for first deposit, potentially faster for subsequent ones. Remember that weekends and holidays don't count as business days. If it's been more than 3 business days since your payment was processed, then I would call TWC to investigate. You can also call the ReliaCard customer service number on the back of your card to verify if they see a pending deposit in their system.

Thank you! This is super helpful. It's only been one business day so I'm probably being impatient. I'll wait until Friday before I start really worrying.

I already received and activated the card, just waiting for the money to show up on it. But thanks for the warning - I've heard horror stories about mail issues with the cards.

Anyone else think it's RIDICULOUS that in 2025 we still have to wait days for electronic transfers?? I can Venmo someone money in seconds but somehow government benefits take DAYS to process. The system is designed to keep us struggling, I swear.

so true!! my friend gets her state tax refund by direct deposit in like 24hrs but unemployment takes forever. makes no sense

Just a quick update for you - I spoke with a TWC rep yesterday about something else and specifically asked about ReliaCard timing. They confirmed that the first deposit is always slower (2-3 business days) because they run additional verification checks. After that, it should be consistently faster. Hope this helps ease your mind!

Thank you so much for checking! I feel much better knowing it's normal for the first one to take longer. Just checked my ReliaCard app and still nothing, but I'll be patient.

Quick tip: Once you start receiving regular deposits, set up account alerts in the ReliaCard app. You can get text messages whenever a deposit hits your account. Really helpful for planning bills and knowing exactly when funds are available.

Great idea! Just set that up in the app. Fingers crossed I'll get that text notification soon!

I've been using ReliaCard for about 6 months now and can confirm what others are saying - that first payment really does take the longest! Mine took 3 full business days to show up initially, but now I typically see deposits within 24-48 hours max. One thing that helped me was calling the ReliaCard customer service number (on the back of your card) the day after TWC processed my payment. They could actually see that a deposit was "in transit" to my account even before it showed up in the app, which gave me peace of mind. Don't stress too much - sounds like everything is processing normally for you!

That's really smart about calling ReliaCard customer service! I didn't think about that - knowing the deposit is "in transit" would definitely help with the anxiety. I'm going to try calling them tomorrow if I still don't see anything. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I went through this exact same situation about 8 months ago when I first switched from paper checks to ReliaCard! The waiting is definitely nerve-wracking, especially when you have bills due. From my experience, that first deposit took exactly 3 business days to appear - it was processed on a Tuesday and showed up Friday morning. Now my payments consistently hit the card within 24-48 hours after TWC processes them. One thing that really helped my anxiety was downloading the ReliaCard mobile app and checking it first thing in the morning - deposits usually post overnight. Also, make sure you have your card number handy because you'll need it to log into the app. Hang in there, it should show up by tomorrow or Friday at the latest!

Thanks for sharing your timeline - that's exactly what I needed to hear! It's reassuring to know that 3 business days is totally normal for the first deposit. I've been checking the ReliaCard app obsessively since yesterday but I'll try to be more patient. Good tip about deposits posting overnight - I'll make sure to check first thing in the morning. Hopefully I'll see something by Friday!

Just wanted to chime in as someone who's been on ReliaCard for over a year now! The first deposit anxiety is so real - I remember refreshing the app every hour when I made the switch. For what it's worth, my first payment took exactly 2.5 business days (processed Wednesday afternoon, appeared Saturday morning). Now my deposits are super predictable - they always hit between 1-3 AM the day after TWC shows "payment processed" in my account. One thing I learned is that if you request payment on a Monday, it usually processes Tuesday and hits your card Wednesday night/Thursday morning. The timing becomes really reliable once you get past that first deposit. You're doing everything right by switching to direct deposit - so much faster than waiting for checks in the mail!

This is so helpful to hear! I'm definitely guilty of refreshing the app constantly - it's good to know I'm not the only one who did that with their first deposit. Your timeline of 2.5 business days sounds about right based on what everyone else is saying. I requested my payment on Monday, it processed Tuesday, so hopefully I'll see it by Thursday morning like you mentioned. Really appreciate you sharing the predictable timing you've experienced - it gives me something concrete to expect going forward. The switch from paper checks already feels worth it even with this initial wait!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Just made the switch from paper checks to ReliaCard last week and my payment was processed yesterday too. Reading everyone's experiences here is making me feel so much better - I was starting to panic thinking I messed something up during the setup process. It sounds like 2-3 business days for the first deposit is completely normal. I keep checking the ReliaCard app hoping to see something but I guess I need to be more patient! At least we're both making the switch at the same time so we can stress together lol. Hopefully we'll both see our deposits by Friday!

Oh wow, we literally have the exact same timeline! It's kind of comforting to know someone else is going through this at the same time. I was also second-guessing myself wondering if I filled out the direct deposit form wrong or something. Everyone here has been so reassuring though - seems like the 2-3 day wait for first deposits is just how the system works. I'm trying to stop myself from checking the app every few hours but it's hard when rent is due soon! Definitely let me know when yours comes through - fingers crossed we both see something by Friday morning!

I've been using ReliaCard for about 2 years now and can definitely relate to that first payment anxiety! What helped me during the waiting period was setting up a backup plan - I called my landlord and explained the situation with switching from checks to direct deposit, and they were understanding about a few extra days. Most landlords have dealt with this before. Also, if you're really in a bind, you can sometimes get a cash advance at certain ATMs once your deposit is pending (though there are fees). The good news is after this first deposit, you'll have a very predictable payment schedule - mine always hits at exactly 2:47 AM the day after TWC processes it. Weird but consistent! Hang in there, it should definitely show up by Friday based on your timeline.

That's such a smart idea about calling your landlord ahead of time! I didn't even think about that but it would definitely help with the stress. I'm hoping I won't need a cash advance but good to know that's an option if things get tight. Your 2:47 AM deposit time is oddly specific but I love that it's so consistent - gives me hope that this will become predictable once I get past this first hurdle. Thanks for the reassurance, I'm feeling much more confident that I'll see something by Friday!

I switched to ReliaCard about 4 months ago and remember that anxious feeling waiting for the first deposit! Mine took exactly 3 business days - processed on Thursday and showed up the following Tuesday morning around 6 AM. What really helped me was remembering that this delay is actually a good thing - it means they're doing proper verification to make sure your money gets to the right place. After that first deposit though, it's been incredibly consistent - usually shows up within 24-36 hours max. One tip: if you have the ReliaCard app, enable push notifications. That way you'll get an alert the moment your deposit hits instead of constantly checking. The wait is worth it - direct deposit is so much more reliable than waiting for checks in the mail, especially during holidays or bad weather!

That's a really good way to think about it - the verification delay actually being a positive thing for security! I never considered that angle. Your 3 business day timeline (Thursday to Tuesday) is really helpful since that's almost exactly where I am right now. Just enabled push notifications in the ReliaCard app like you suggested - that should save me from obsessively checking every few hours. You're absolutely right about direct deposit being more reliable than checks. I had a paper check get lost in the mail once and it was a nightmare to resolve. Even with this initial wait, I already feel better knowing I won't have to worry about mail delays or checks getting stolen. Thanks for the encouragement!

I just want to add my experience since I see so many people going through this same anxiety! I switched to ReliaCard about 10 months ago and that first deposit took a full 3 business days - I was checking the app constantly and even called TWC twice thinking something was wrong. But everyone here is right - after that first payment, it becomes super reliable. Mine now consistently shows up within 24-48 hours, usually around midnight or early morning. The key thing that helped my peace of mind was realizing that "payment processed" in your TWC account just means they've approved it and sent it to the bank - there's still the actual transfer time. Since you mentioned rent is due soon, you might want to give your landlord a heads up about the timing just in case. Most property managers understand that government payments can have delays. Hang in there, Friday sounds very realistic based on your timeline!
