PA UC taking 6+ weeks to process federal job claim - still pending approval

I've been filing my weekly UC claims for 6 weeks straight and my claim is still showing as pending. Nothing has been approved and I haven't received a single payment. I worked for the federal government (USPS) for 3 years before being laid off due to budget cuts. Does anyone know if claims from federal jobs take longer to process? The financial strain is getting serious and I'm starting to worry something's wrong with my claim. I've tried calling the PA UC service line but can't get through to anyone. Any advice on what I should do next? Should I just keep waiting and filing weekly claims? Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the info! Do you know if there's any specific reason federal jobs take longer? I'm just worried something might be wrong with my application.

Federal employment claims do often take longer to process because the PA UC office has to verify your wages through the federal system instead of the regular state wage system. This verification process is more complex. Some things you should do: 1. Make sure you've properly reported your federal employer with the correct code (USPS has a specific federal ID) 2. Continue filing your weekly claims without fail 3. Check your dashboard for any "open issues" that might need addressing 4. Try sending a message through your UC portal specifically mentioning it's a federal claim If you haven't received any correspondence about issues with your claim, it's likely just taking longer due to the federal verification process.

Thank you for the detailed response! I don't see any open issues on my dashboard, so hopefully it's just the normal delay for federal employees. I'll try sending a message through the portal.

I went through this exact situation last year with my federal job. PA UC took 9 weeks to approve my claim! The issue is that federal wages are reported differently and they have to go through a whole separate verification process. Did you receive a "Federal Wages Request" form to fill out? If not, you might want to call and specifically ask about that form. Sometimes they don't automatically send it.

No, I didn't receive any form like that! That might be what's holding things up. Did you have to call multiple times to get through to someone?

Yes, it took me dozens of calls to get through. The regular phone line is practically useless. If you're desperate to get through, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an agent within about 20 minutes instead of spending days redialing. They have a video demo showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The agent I spoke with immediately identified that my federal wages form was missing and had me fill it out while on the phone. My claim was approved the following week.

THE SYSTEM IS RIGGED AGAINST FEDERAL EMPLOYEES!!! I worked for the IRS and had to wait TEN WEEKS before getting approved. They make you wait hoping you'll give up!!! And yes you NEED that federal wages form but they don't tell you about it until you actually talk to someone!!!! KEEP CALLING EVERY DAY!!!

You're LUCKY then!!! I had to FIGHT for every penny and they initially tried to deny my benefits because they claimed they couldn't verify my wages even though I sent them my SF-50 TWICE!!!!

My sister's waiting on unemployment too but she worked at Target. Been like a month now and nothing. Wonder if all claims are just backed up right now.

Regular employer claims should typically be processed within 2-3 weeks unless there are issues with the application or the employer contests it. Federal claims definitely take longer due to the separate wage verification system. Your sister might want to check if there are any open issues on her claim that need to be addressed.

Has anyone seen that form on their portal? I worked for the federal government and I'm on week 3 of waiting. Just wondering where I should look for that Federal Wages form if they sent it.

It's not always in the portal. In my case, they mailed it physically to my address. Check your mail carefully - it comes in an official PA Dept of Labor envelope. If you haven't received it by week 4, I'd definitely call to ask about it specifically.

Update: I finally got through to someone at the UC office this morning after using the Claimyr service (it actually worked!). The rep confirmed they were missing my federal wages form and sent it to me right away. They said once I return it, my claim should be processed within 10-14 business days. Thanks everyone for your help! I'll update again once I hopefully get approved.

awesome!! glad you got thru to someone! keep us posted

Great news! Make sure to fill out every section of that form completely - they're really strict about it. If you worked for multiple federal departments or agencies during the base year, you need to list each one separately.

Final update: My claim was FINALLY approved yesterday, after almost 8 weeks total! I received all my backpay for the weeks I filed. For anyone else dealing with a federal employment claim - be prepared to wait longer than normal, make sure you get that federal wages form, and keep filing every week while you wait. Thanks again to everyone who helped!

Excellent! Glad to hear your claim was approved. This is helpful information for others in similar situations. Just to confirm - did they pay you for all 8 weeks at once as retroactive payment?

Yes, they paid all 8 weeks at once. It was such a relief to see that money hit my Money Network card after waiting so long! Now I just need to stay on top of the job search requirements.
