PA UC wage review taking forever with federal employer - 8 weeks and counting!
I'm at my wit's end with this PA unemployment nightmare. My claim has been stuck in 'wages under review' for EIGHT WEEKS now because my last employer was a federal agency. Apparently the state rules don't apply to the feds and there's no deadline for them to respond to wage verification requests. This is the THIRD time my wages have been under review! I've uploaded everything possible - my W2, all my paystubs, my SF50 form that literally shows EVERYTHING about my employment. Why can't UC just make a determination based on the documents I provided? Why are federal employers given special treatment while I'm left struggling to pay bills? Finally called my state senator today out of desperation, and their office took my info and said UC should call me within a day. Has anyone else dealt with federal employment causing UC delays? Any success stories?

Unfortunately this is all too common with federal employment. The state UC system has different verification processes for federal wages through something called the Federal Wages and Military Wages program. They have to verify through a specific federal channel rather than just accepting your documentation. I went through something similar last year - took almost 7 weeks before my claim was processed. The state senator route is actually smart - they can often cut through red tape faster than we can as individuals. Keep following up with the senator's office if you don't hear back within 48 hours.

•Thanks for explaining. It's so frustrating that they can't just use what I provided! Do you know if backpay is automatic once they finally approve it? I'm worried I'll have to fight for all these weeks they've kept me waiting.

•9 weeks?! That's insane. Did your cousin get all their backpay at least? I'm worried they'll find some technicality to deny part of it.

I worked for a federal agency before too, and my claim was stuck in review for 6 weeks. What finally worked for me was contacting PA UC through the Claimyr service (claimyr.com). They got me through to an actual claims examiner who manually verified my federal wages after I explained the situation. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. The claims examiner told me they can actually make determinations based on your documentation, but they need a supervisor to authorize overriding the normal federal verification process. Most phone reps won't tell you this or don't have the authority to escalate.

•is this legit? seems sketchy that u have to pay to talk to unemployment when its our right to get benefits...

•It's definitely legitimate - it just helps you get through the phone lines faster. I was skeptical too, but after 6 weeks of not being able to talk to anyone, I was desperate. The money I spent was worth it to finally get my benefits flowing, which were way more than the service cost.

THE SYSTEM IS RIGGED AGAINST US!!! I've said this a million times but no one listens. The government doesn't follow the SAME RULES they force on private businesses. Private employer has 7 DAYS to respond to wage requests but federal agencies can take FOREVER?!?! And they wonder why people don't trust the system. I waited 11 WEEKS with my Army Reserve wages under review last year. ELEVEN WEEKS!!! Meanwhile bills piled up and my credit score tanked. This whole system needs to be TORN DOWN and rebuilt.

•11 weeks is absolutely criminal! Did they ever explain why it took so long? I'm definitely losing trust in the system after this experience.

Contacting your state senator was a smart move. I work in workforce development and we often advise claimants to reach out to their representatives when there are unusual delays. For federal employment cases, there's actually a special verification process that has to go through the Federal Claims Control Center, which adds extra time. The good news is that once they verify your wages, you should receive all backdated payments you're eligible for in one lump sum. The key is making sure they know you're actively pursuing resolution.

•That's good to know about the backdated payments! I was starting to worry I'd never see that money. Do you think I should also try to contact my US Representative's office, or is the state senator enough?

•The state senator is usually more effective for state unemployment issues, even when they involve federal employment. Their offices deal with UC problems regularly and typically have dedicated staff who know exactly who to contact at the Department of Labor & Industry. If you don't see results within 3-5 business days from the senator's intervention, then consider reaching out to your US Representative as well.

have you tried calling the UC service center directly? sometimes you can get through if you call right when they open at 8am

•I've tried calling dozens of times at different hours. Either get a busy signal, or the automated message saying call volume is too high and to try again later. It's beyond frustrating!

Quick update - the senator's office called me this morning! They said they talked to a supervisor at UC who's expediting my claim. They said to expect a determination by Friday. I'll post again when I hear something. Thanks everyone for the advice and support!

•This is great news! The senator route is often the most effective for complicated claims. Be sure to keep all your documentation organized in case there are any follow-up questions. And don't forget to do your weekly certifications even while waiting for the wage verification to be completed.

FINAL UPDATE: My claim was approved today! The senator's office definitely made the difference. All my back weeks were approved and payment is pending to my ReliaCard. For anyone else dealing with federal employment verification delays, don't wait 8 weeks like I did - contact your state representatives much earlier! Thanks to everyone who offered advice.

•Great news! So glad it worked out for you. Did they give any explanation about why it took so long or what the specific hold-up was with the federal verification?

•They said something about a backlog in the Federal Claims Control Center and that my agency (Department of Interior) is particularly slow with verifications. The UC examiner mentioned they're trying to improve the process, but federal agencies are still exempt from the normal response timelines that regular employers have to follow. At least it's resolved now!
