PA UC open issue - Called state rep but employer response still missing after 7 weeks

I'm at my wit's end with this PA unemployment claim! Filed on March 10th and it's been sitting with an open issue for almost 2 MONTHS now. After reading advice on here, I contacted my state representative's office last week. They were super helpful and put in some kind of priority notice for me. Got a call yesterday from UC and was told they're "still waiting for my employer to respond" even though I KNOW my employer already sent their response back in March (they gave me a copy). It was a mutual separation due to my chronic migraine condition making it impossible to work nights anymore. The UC rep promised they were giving my employer "one more week" to re-send the info, but honestly I've heard that before. Bills are piling up and I'm getting desperate. I tried using the chat feature online but it's just that useless bot. Anyone have suggestions on what to do next? I'm already 7 weeks without income and running out of options.

I had almost the same exact issue in January. My employer had already responded (I confirmed with HR) but UC kept saying they were "waiting" for a response. What finally worked for me was having my employer contact UC directly through their employer portal to confirm they had already responded. It got resolved within 3 days after that. If you're on good terms with your former employer, definitely reach out to HR and ask if they can do this. Also, did the state rep give you a specific timeframe for when they expected action? Sometimes they need a follow-up.

Thank you! I'm on decent terms with HR so I'll try reaching out tomorrow. The state rep office just said they'd "escalate" it but didn't give me any specific timeline. Should I wait another week before contacting them again?

OMG the exact same thing happened to my cousin!!!! They kept telling her they were waiting for employer info but the employer had sent it TWICE already!!!! Its like the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing over there!!!!

Exactly! It's so frustrating. Did your cousin ever get it resolved? How long did it take?

The issue you're experiencing is unfortunately common with PA UC claims involving employer responses. Here's what I recommend: 1. Ask your employer to resend their response through the employer portal AND request a confirmation number or screenshot 2. Contact your state rep again and provide this new confirmation from your employer 3. Request an "escalation to a claims examiner" specifically - use those exact words 4. Document everything - dates, names of representatives, confirmation numbers The system often has these disconnects where responses get "lost" between departments. A health-related separation should actually be processed relatively quickly once they have the correct documentation.

Thank you for these specific steps! I'll ask HR for that confirmation number tomorrow. One question - when you say "escalation to a claims examiner" should I use those words with my state rep or with UC directly (if I can ever reach them)?

Use those exact words with both your state rep AND with UC if you manage to reach them. The phrase triggers a specific workflow in their system. Make sure to emphasize that this claim has been pending for 7+ weeks with employer verification already provided.

the whole system is BROKEN!!! ive been waiting since DECEMBER for my appeal hearing and every time i call they say "2 more weeks" its MAY now!!! they dont care about us at all. your best bet is to keep calling every single day until someone helps you

Omg since DECEMBER???? That's insane!!!! Have you tried contacting your state senator? I heard they can sometimes help more than representatives!!!

I recently discovered a service called Claimyr that actually helped me get through to a live PA UC agent when I was dealing with a similar issue. Their system basically holds your place in line while you wait. I was skeptical but it worked for me after weeks of busy signals and hang-ups. Check out their site at claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Once I got through to an actual claims specialist, they were able to see that my employer had indeed already responded and they manually pushed my claim through the review process. Worth considering if your situation gets more desperate.

I keep hearing about this service but was hesitant to try it. How long did it take you to get through once you used it? And did they actually help resolve your issue or just tell you to keep waiting?

It took about 40 minutes to get through (compared to days of trying on my own). The agent I spoke with was able to see exactly where my claim was stuck and manually moved it to the next step. My payments started within a week after that call. Obviously can't guarantee you'll have the same experience, but it was definitely worth it for me.

I work in HR and deal with PA UC employer verifications regularly. There's often a HUGE disconnect between the different UC departments. Here's what you need to know: 1. Employers typically respond through the SIDES e-response system 2. These responses sometimes don't get properly linked to claims 3. UC representatives can see different information depending on which department they're in Your best approach is to: - Get documentation from your employer showing they responded (with date) - Have them resend through BOTH the portal AND by fax (yes, fax still works better sometimes) - Request a Fact Finding Interview specifically about the employer response issue Also, since your separation was due to a health condition, make sure they have medical documentation supporting this. That can be critical for a non-contentious separation approval.

This is SUPER helpful! I didn't realize there was a difference between systems. My employer definitely has medical documentation since we went through the whole accommodation process before the separation. I'll make sure they include that when they resend everything.

have you tried emailing uchelp@pa.gov with all your info? sometimes they actually respond faster that way than by phone. put your claim # in the subject line and include your name, last 4 of ssn, and phone #. explain everything about your employer already responding. might work.

I've sent two emails already but haven't heard anything back. Maybe I'll try once more with my employer's proof of response attached this time. Thanks for the suggestion!

Just to follow up - make sure you continue filing your weekly certifications even while this issue is pending. Many claimants stop filing when they don't receive payments, but this can create additional problems later. Keep certifying each week so that once your claim is approved, you can receive all back payments without further delays.

Yes, I've been religiously filing every Sunday! At least that part of the system works consistently. It's just frustrating to see "benefits exhausted" each time when I haven't received a single payment yet.

Any updates? Were you able to get your employer to contact UC again?

Quick update: HR agreed to resend everything and gave me confirmation they did it through their portal yesterday. They also gave me a screenshot showing they originally responded on March 15th! I also called my state rep again and they're sending another inquiry. Fingers crossed something happens this week.

Great to hear you're making progress. Based on current processing times, you should see movement within 7-10 business days after your employer's new submission. If not, that's when I'd consider using a service to reach a claims examiner directly or asking your state rep to escalate to a supervisor level at UC.

7-10 MORE days???? That's crazy when they've already been waiting nearly 2 months!!! The system is so broken!!!

I understand the frustration, but unfortunately that's the current reality with PA UC processing times. Escalations through state representatives typically follow that timeline as well. The system is definitely overloaded, which is why having all documentation properly submitted is so important.

FINAL UPDATE: I'm in shock but my claim was just approved this morning! All pending weeks are showing as paid! After I got my employer to resend everything AND my state rep followed up again, something finally clicked. For anyone in a similar situation - don't give up and definitely try the state rep route if you're stuck. Thanks everyone for your help!

That's awesome news! So happy for you! How long until your Money Network card arrives? That's usually the next step.

They said 7-10 days for the card, but I'm just relieved to see the approval finally! Such a weight off my shoulders.
