PA UC claim stuck for 6 weeks even after state rep intervention - when to expect movement?

I'm at my wits end with PA Unemployment! My claim has been sitting with no movement for 6 weeks now. I finally broke down and contacted my state representative last week, and they said they would email UC with my information to try and help. The rep said they'd send my info right away, but nothing has changed on my portal. For anyone who's gone the state rep route - how long did it take after your rep contacted UC to see any actual movement on your claim? Should I be doing something else while waiting? This is getting ridiculous and my savings are almost gone.

That's so frustrating to hear. Did your rep give you any timeline for when to expect a response? Mine just said they'd reach out but didn't promise anything specific.

In my experience, state rep intervention usually takes 2-3 weeks to see movement, but lately the system is extremely backlogged. I've seen several cases take 4-6 weeks even after a rep steps in. A few things you should do while waiting: 1. Continue filing your weekly claims without fail 2. Check your dashboard daily for any new messages or status changes 3. Make sure you're fulfilling your work search requirements (logging 2 job applications & 1 work search activity weekly) 4. Email your state rep again after the 2-week mark to ask for an update One thing that might help - try calling UC very early (7:55am) right before they open. Sometimes you can get through in those first few minutes.

Thank you for these tips. I've been filing weekly but honestly wasn't checking my dashboard everyday. I'll start doing that. Would it be inappropriate to contact my state rep again so soon after the first contact? I don't want to be a bother, but this is getting desperate.

I contacted my state rep back in March when my claim was stuck with an 'open issue' for 5 weeks and nothing had moved. The rep's office emailed UC and it took another 3 weeks before anything changed. But at least it DID get resolved! I think they have special contacts that can eventually push things through. But don't rest on just that - keep trying to contact UC directly too. Have you tried the chat function on the website?

The chat function has been useless for me. Every time I try, it's either unavailable or I get disconnected after waiting for 30+ minutes. It's like they designed the system to be as difficult as possible.

I've helped several people navigate this exact situation. Here's what you need to know: State rep intervention is helpful but not a magic bullet. The timeline varies depending on your specific issue. If you have an identity verification problem, it could take 6-8 weeks. If it's an employer dispute or missing information, possibly 4-6 weeks. You mentioned nothing has changed on your portal - but are you sure there's not a hidden request for information? Sometimes UC will add an "action needed" item but it's not obvious. Check the "Determine Eligibility" section of your dashboard for any incomplete questionnaires. And yes, absolutely follow up with your state rep after about 10-14 days. That's not being bothersome - it's standard procedure. They expect it and it helps them justify escalating your case to their UC contact again.

I tried for 2 months calling every day with no luck. got so frustrated i was bout to give up. then i found this service called Claimyr that got me through to an agent in like 20 minutes when i had been trying for WEEKS with no luck. their website is claimyr.com and they even have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 after i finally got through to a real person, they fixed my issue right away. turned out there was some flag on my account that needed to be manually removed

I've never heard of this service before. Does it actually work? I'm skeptical but desperate enough to try anything at this point if it gets me to talk to a real human being at UC.

Everyone's different I guess. Mine took exactly 9 days after my state rep got involved to see movement. But that was last year, and I had a simple issue (they needed verification of my last day worked). What type of issue is holding up your claim? That makes a big difference in timeline.

That's the most frustrating part - I don't even know what the issue is! It just says "pending" with no explanation of what's holding it up. No messages, no requests for documents, nothing. Just complete silence from UC for 6 weeks.

If you're not seeing any specific issue listed, it's likely one of three things: 1. Identity verification backlog (very common) 2. Employer response delay (they have 21 days to contest) 3. Adjudication queue backlog (general review) For option 1, try completing ID.me verification if you haven't already (even if not prompted - it can speed things up). For option 2, try contacting your former employer's HR to make sure they've responded to UC's inquiry. For option 3, this unfortunately just requires persistence. One more tip - after your state rep contacts UC, you should receive an email from UC within 5-7 business days acknowledging they received the inquiry. If you haven't gotten this, follow up with your rep immediately as it may mean your case wasn't properly escalated.

I haven't received any emails from UC acknowledging my rep's contact. I'll definitely follow up about that tomorrow. I already did the ID.me verification when I first filed, and my former employer confirmed they responded to UC within the first week. So it sounds like I might be stuck in that adjudication queue. Thanks for breaking this down!

Just wanted to chime back in - in my experience, when you follow up with your state rep, be SUPER specific about your situation. I created a one-page document with all my info: - Full name & last 4 of SSN - Claim filing date - Specific issue I was having - Dates and methods I tried to contact UC - My phone # and best time to call My rep said this made it much easier for them to advocate effectively for me. And definitely try that Claimyr service someone mentioned if your rep doesn't get results in the next week or so. When I finally got through to a person, they fixed my issue in literally 5 minutes. It was something that could only be fixed by a human representative.

One more question - have you tried contacting Pennsylvania Unemployment through their social media channels? Sometimes their Twitter team can help escalate issues. It's not widely known but they do have staff monitoring those channels.

I hadn't even thought of social media! I'll try reaching out through Twitter too. At this point I'm willing to try anything to get some movement on my claim. Thanks for the suggestion!
