State Rep helped with my PA UC claim - definitely recommend contacting yours!

After 6 weeks of my PA unemployment claim showing 'pending' with zero payments, I was at my wits end. Called the UC service center about 30 times - nothing but busy signals. Left messages on the portal - crickets. Finally, my neighbor suggested I contact my state representative's office. I found mine through the PA Legislature website, called yesterday morning, explained my situation to their staff, and they immediately started a 'legislative inquiry' on my behalf! They said they have a direct contact at UC who handles these inquiries. Has anyone else tried this route? Just wondering how long it typically takes after they get involved? Feeling hopeful for the first time in weeks!

Same! My state rep was the ONLY reason my claim got fixed. I was stuck in 'identity verification pending' for almost 2 months before they stepped in. Took about 10 days after they contacted UC for me.

10 days seems reasonable! That gives me hope. Did they contact you directly when it was resolved or did you just notice the status change online?

This is actually excellent advice that more people should know about. Your state representatives have constituent services staff whose job is specifically to help with government agencies like UC. They have established relationships with special liaisons at these departments. When I worked at a legislator's office, we handled dozens of UC cases weekly. A few tips: 1. Be sure to contact the rep for the district where you LIVE (not where you worked) 2. Prepare a quick summary of your claim issue (date filed, claim ID if you have it, type of problem) 3. Sign their release form promptly - they can't help without it due to privacy laws 4. Stay responsive to their calls/emails Typically, you'll see movement within 1-2 weeks after they submit the inquiry.

Thank you so much for the insider perspective! They did have me sign a release form yesterday. I'm going to call them back tomorrow with my claim ID since I forgot to give it to them initially.

I had a similar experience with my first state rep (when I lived in North Philly). But when I moved to Montgomery County, the rep there was AMAZING with helping on my new claim. Definitely depends on the office and their staffing/priorities.

Can someone explain HOW to find your state rep??? Is that different from congressperson? I'm so confused about who to contact. My claim has been stuck for 5 weeks now with "eligibility review" status and I NEED THIS MONEY!!! I've literally called the UC phone line 247 times (I've been counting) and never get through!!!!!

Yes, your state rep is different from your congressperson (who's federal). Go to https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/findyourlegislator/ and enter your home address. It will show both your State Representative and State Senator - either one can help with UC issues. Their offices usually have dedicated staff who handle these cases regularly.

If you need to speak directly with PA UC and can't get through using the regular phone lines, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. I was in the same boat until someone on here suggested it. It's a service that connects you with an actual UC agent (not just puts you on hold). I was skeptical but watched their demo video (https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2) and decided to try it. Got through to someone at UC in about 40 minutes instead of days of calling. The rep was able to immediately see what was holding up my claim. Between that and my state rep's help, my claim was fixed within a week.

My neighbor works for a state representative (not mine, she's in a different district), and she says they get TONS of unemployment cases. Like literally half their constituent work is helping people with UC problems. She said the UC department has special staff who only handle legislative inquiries, so it basically puts you in a different queue. Smart move contacting them!

Just a heads up - after my state rep helped me, I got a survey from UC asking about my customer service experience. Make sure to fill that out and mention that you only got help because of your representative's intervention. The more documentation they have about these problems, the better.

Good point! I'll definitely do that if/when my issue gets resolved. I'm really hoping this works because I've basically depleted my savings waiting for these benefits that I've earned!

I JUST TRIED THIS TODAY AFTER SEEING YOUR POST!!! My state rep's office was super nice and took all my info right away. They said they're sending an inquiry to UC today and will call me when they hear back. THANK YOU for posting this tip!!!

That's awesome! So glad it helped someone else too. Let's keep each other posted on how quickly things move after the rep gets involved!

My experience with my state rep was mixed. They did submit an inquiry for me, but it still took 3 weeks to resolve my issue. Better than nothing I suppose, but not the instant fix I was hoping for. The UC system is just completely overwhelmed right now with all the new claims from those healthcare layoffs in February. One thing my rep's office recommended was to make sure your MyPA account is fully verified with ID.me - apparently that can speed things up too since it confirms your identity.

UPDATE: My state rep's office called today (just 3 days after I contacted them) to let me know that UC reviewed my claim! Apparently there was an issue with my job separation reason that needed clarification. The UC examiner is calling me tomorrow morning to get the final details, but my rep's staff said payments should start processing by next week. I'm so relieved! Definitely recommend this route to anyone stuck in UC limbo!
