PA UC claim stuck in 'audit' status for 8 weeks - normal wait time?
I'm totally lost about what's happening with my unemployment claim. It's been showing as 'in progress' with an audit status on my dashboard for 8 weeks now! Is this normal? I haven't received any letters requesting additional information and I'm not sure what I should be doing while waiting. Has anyone else had their claim stuck in an audit? How long did your determination take? I'm really starting to stress about bills since my savings are almost gone. I've tried calling the PA UC number but can't get through to anyone who can explain what's happening.

Audit status usually means they're reviewing your employment and wages from the past 18 months. This could happen if your employer contested your claim or if there's something in your work history that needs verification. Eight weeks is definitely longer than usual - most audits resolve in 3-4 weeks in my experience. Have you tried checking if there are any action items in your dashboard that need your attention?

•Thanks for explaining! I don't see any action items on my dashboard - just the 'in progress' status. Should I be proactive and upload any pay stubs or employment verification documents even though they haven't asked for them?

OMG this EXACT thing happened to me!!! My claim was stuck in audit for like 2 months and I was FREAKING OUT. Nobody would tell me what was going on and I couldn't get anyone on the phone!!! I think the system is completely BROKEN and they don't care about us at all!!

•Did your claim ever get resolved? I'm worried mine will just stay in limbo forever

I got through to an agent using Claimyr.com after trying for weeks on my own. The video demo (https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2) shows exactly how it works. My claim was stuck in audit because my previous employer had contested it, but I had no idea until I spoke with someone. They were able to tell me exactly what documents they needed to move the audit forward - turned out they sent letters to my old address. Got everything resolved in about a week after that call.

As someone who works with PA UC claims regularly, I can tell you that audit status usually means one of three things: 1. Your employer contested the claim 2. There's a discrepancy in reported wages 3. You have multiple employers in your base year and they're verifying all employment The standard processing time is 2-3 weeks, but with the current backlog, 8 weeks isn't unheard of. However, I would definitely recommend being proactive at this point. You should: 1. Keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting 2. Check your spam/junk folder for any correspondence 3. Try reaching a representative to check if they need any specific documents Don't upload random documents unless requested as this can sometimes further delay processing.

•This is really helpful! I've definitely been keeping up with my weekly claims, but I'll double-check my spam folder. I think my former employer might be contesting - we didn't part on great terms. Is there a specific department I should try to reach about audits?

•The chat bot is useless for specific claim issues. I managed to get through using Claimyr - worth it just to get answers and stop stressing. I was in the same boat with rent coming up.

To answer your question about a specific department - for audit issues, you want to speak with the Claims Investigation Unit or sometimes called the Audit Department. When you call, specifically mention that your claim has been in audit status for 8 weeks and you're requesting information about what's needed to resolve it. And yes, if your employer is contesting, there's a specific process they have to follow. They would have received notification when you filed and had a limited time to respond. The fact that it's taking 8 weeks suggests there might be some back-and-forth happening that you're not seeing. One other thing to check - log into your dashboard and look for any correspondence in your message center. Sometimes they send requests for information through the portal rather than by mail.

•Thank you so much! I just checked my message center and don't see anything there either. I'll try calling and specifically asking for the Claims Investigation Unit. Fingers crossed I can get through!

Just to add - make sure you're continuing to complete your work search activities while waiting. I've seen people get denied because they stopped doing their work searches during a long audit period, thinking they didn't need to until the claim was approved. You need 2 work search activities per week in PA.

my bro had his claim stuck for like 3 months!!!! he said it was because he worked for 2 different companies in the last 18 months and they had to verify everything with both. so annoying how slow they are

To answer someone else's question - mine FINALLY got resolved after 10 WEEKS!!! It was ridiculous and I almost got EVICTED waiting for them to figure it out. When they finally approved it, they backdated all my payments though. So at least there's that. But they never actually told me what the issue was which is so FRUSTRATING!!!

•10 weeks??? That's terrifying - I'm already struggling at 8 weeks. Did you have to do anything special to finally get it resolved?

I actually ended up contacting my state representative's office! They have people who work on UC issues and they contacted the office on my behalf. Then like MAGIC my claim was fixed within 3 days after waiting for 2+ MONTHS!!! Definitely try that if you can't get answers any other way!

•Wow I didn't know state reps could help with unemployment! Gonna try this tomorrow

@profile8 - Yes, Claimyr does work. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after weeks of busy signals. It connected me to an actual person who could see what was happening with my claim. Found out there was a simple issue that needed to be fixed (they had my SSN recorded incorrectly on one form). Once that was fixed my audit cleared in a few days.

Just a quick update on audit timeframes - the PA UC department recently published that their current backlog for audit resolutions is 6-10 weeks, so unfortunately your 8-week wait is within their current expected timeframe. However, that doesn't mean you should just wait passively. Being proactive by contacting them can help ensure your case doesn't fall through the cracks.

•Thanks for that info. It's frustrating but at least I know my timeline isn't unusual. I'm going to try calling tomorrow morning right when they open and see if I can get through. If that doesn't work, I'll try contacting my state rep like someone suggested.

I've been dealing with PA UC claims for years and wanted to share a few additional tips that might help while you're waiting for your audit to resolve: 1. Document EVERYTHING - keep screenshots of your dashboard status, save any emails/letters, and write down dates/times when you try to call 2. Check your employer's side too - sometimes they don't respond to UC's requests for information, which can delay the audit 3. If you have direct deposit set up, make sure your banking info is still current in the system 4. Consider setting up text/email alerts in your dashboard if you haven't already Also, regarding the Claims Investigation Unit that NeonNova mentioned - they typically handle these between 8am-12pm, so try calling right at 8am for better odds of getting through. The regular customer service line gets swamped but the investigation unit line sometimes has shorter wait times. Hang in there - I know 8 weeks feels like forever when you're worried about bills, but most audits do eventually resolve with back pay included.

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I didn't even know there was a separate Claims Investigation Unit line. I'll definitely try calling them at 8am sharp tomorrow. Quick question - do you happen to know if there's a specific number for that unit or do I just ask to be transferred when I call the main UC line? Also really appreciate the tip about documenting everything - I wish I had started doing that from day one but I'll start now.
