PA UC agent wrongly marked my account as 'employed' - now all weeks show disqualified!
I'm absolutely furious right now! After waiting THREE WEEKS to speak with someone at PA unemployment, I finally got through this morning only to have my situation made 100x worse! My claim had been pending since January with no explanation, so I called for help. The UC agent somehow misunderstood our conversation and flagged my account as 'employment accepted' even though I specifically told her I'm still actively job searching! Now when I log into my account, there's a note saying I found work (I DIDN'T), and all my weekly certifications suddenly show 'DISQUALIFIED' status. I've been calling repeatedly since but just get busy signals. Has anyone dealt with this kind of error before? How do I fix this mess? I'm seriously panicking about bills now.

•2 WEEKS?? We can't wait that long! Did you just keep calling the main number or is there another way to reach them?

This is unfortunately a common issue with PA UC. What you need to do is file an appeal immediately, even before you speak to someone. Go to your dashboard, find the determination letter (there should be one for each disqualified week), and file an appeal for each one. Make sure to clearly state that you did NOT accept employment and the agent made an error. Then also submit a message through the UC message center explaining the situation. Keep documentation of everything. In the appeal explanation, include: 1. Date and approximate time you spoke with the representative 2. Clear statement that you are still unemployed and actively seeking work 3. List of your recent work search activities The appeals can take 2-3 weeks to process, but they'll preserve your rights even if you manage to reach someone by phone sooner.

•Thank you SO MUCH for this detailed info! I just checked and yes, there are determination letters for each week. I'll start the appeal process right now. Should I still try calling them too, or just focus on the appeals?

I hate the PA unemployment system so much! They CONSTANTLY make these mistakes and WE suffer for it. Last year they marked me as "unavailable for work" when I mentioned I had a doctor's appointment ONE MORNING. Took FOREVER to fix and I almost got evicted waiting for my benefits!!! The people working there seriously need better training or something because they mess up ALL THE TIME and we're the ones who have to deal with the consequences!!

•for real!! i swear they do it on purpose sometimes to save money. less people getting paid = less money they gotta give out

While you're working on appeals as suggested above, I'd also recommend documenting everything meticulously. Take screenshots of your account showing the incorrect employment acceptance note. Write down exactly what was discussed in your call (date, time, agent name if you have it). This documentation will be critical for your appeal. One thing that helped me get through to PA UC quickly when I had a similar urgent issue was using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a system that gets you through the phone queue much faster. They have a video demo here: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 that explains how it works. I was skeptical at first but it saved me days of constant redialing when I had an urgent issue with my claim.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'll check out that service. At this point I'm desperate to talk to someone who can fix this before we miss another payment cycle. Has anyone else used this Claimyr thing? Does it actually work?

•I can confirm it works, but also make sure you're following through with the appeals process as mentioned above. Speaking with a representative can sometimes expedite things, but the formal appeal creates a paper trail and ensures your rights are protected even if the phone call doesn't resolve everything. Also, while waiting for resolution, be sure to continue filing your weekly certifications as normal, even if they're showing as disqualified. If your appeal is successful, they'll process payments for those weeks retroactively, but only if you've properly certified them.

This is a classic case of miscommunication during a PA UC call. I've been through this exact situation and have helped several others navigate it too. Here's what you need to know: 1. File those appeals immediately as others have said - there's a 15-day deadline from each determination letter 2. In your appeals, be very specific about what was actually said in the conversation - if you mentioned anything about job prospects, interviews, or potential opportunities, the agent may have misinterpreted this as job acceptance 3. When you do reach someone by phone, ask them to review the call notes and clarify that you are still unemployed and conducting active work search 4. Request that they send an urgent correction to the claims examiner 5. Most importantly, keep certifying every week as if nothing happened The good news is that these administrative errors can absolutely be corrected, and when they are, you'll receive all back payments for the weeks incorrectly disqualified. The bad news is that it does take time - typically 2-3 weeks if you're persistent.

•Thank you for the detailed breakdown. I'm working on the appeals now. I think I know what happened - I mentioned I had a promising interview scheduled for next week, but I definitely never said I accepted any job! I guess the agent just heard what she wanted to hear. So frustrating.

UPDATE: I finally managed to speak with someone at PA UC this afternoon! I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned and got through in about 30 minutes instead of endless busy signals. The representative was actually helpful and could see exactly what happened. The previous agent had coded my account with status code 'JA' (Job Acceptance) instead of 'JS' (Job Search) after I mentioned an upcoming interview. She's submitted an urgent correction request to have my claim reviewed and the disqualifications removed. She said it should be fixed within 3-5 business days and all my weeks will be reprocessed. I still submitted the formal appeals just in case, but she said this might resolve before the appeals even get processed. Thanks everyone for your help! What a nightmare this system is.

•That's excellent news! The 'JA' vs 'JS' code mix-up happens more often than you'd think. Smart move to file the appeals anyway - always better to have multiple solutions in progress. Keep an eye on your dashboard over the next week, and if you don't see changes by day 6, call back. Glad you got through!
