PA UC claim needs 'purging' to remove disqualification - how long until payment?

Hey everyone - I'm so frustrated right now! I got approved for PA unemployment but I'm still not getting paid because of some 'purge' that needs to happen on my claim. I was laid off from my warehouse job on March 12th and filed immediately. Got my determination letter last Friday saying I'M ELIGIBLE for benefits (it's right there in black and white!), but still no money on my Money Network card. I've been calling the UC service center every day but just busy signals. Finally got through to my state rep's office who had a UC rep call me back on April 8th. She said something about needing to 'purge my claim' to remove a disqualification that shouldn't be there, but apparently she never did it! Called again yesterday and waited on hold for 78 minutes(!!!) and the UC guy I talked to confirmed the first lady should have purged my claim to clear the disqualification flag. I went back to my state rep's office yesterday asking if they could escalate this. Bills are piling up and I haven't had income in over a month. Has anyone dealt with this 'purging' thing before? How long does it actually take once they do it? I'm at my wit's end here!

Yea this happend to me too! My claim had to be 'purged' in February. The UC rep had to delete some kind of block that was showing me disqualified even though I had the eligible letter too. It took about 5 days after they actually did the purge before money showed up in my account. Keep calling!!!! The system is soooo broken.

5 days isn't terrible I guess... Did they tell you when they actually did it? My problem is I don't even know if anyone's done the purge yet since the first lady never followed through!

6 WEEKS?? I can't wait that long... did he ever figure out why it needed to be purged in the first place?

This is actually a fairly common issue with PA UC claims. What's happening is there's a conflict in their system - you've been determined eligible, but there's still an old disqualification code active in your file. The "purge" process is when they remove that incorrect flag. A few things you should know: 1. The purge process itself takes minutes for them to do, but 24-48 hours to fully process in their system 2. After the purge, your payments typically release in 3-5 business days 3. You should continue filing your weekly claims during this time 4. Ask the rep to put notes on your file confirming the purge was completed Call your state rep's office again and specifically ask them to confirm with UC that the purge has actually been done, not just that it needs to be done. The determination letter is proof you're eligible, so the purge should be a straightforward administrative fix.

Thank you! This is super helpful. I've been filing my weekly claims religiously. I'll call the state rep again today and ask them to verify the purge was actually completed. Do you know if I should expect all my back weeks to come at once or will they trickle in?

In my experience, once they purge the disqualification, all your eligible back weeks should be paid at once. The system will process them as a batch, so you should see the full amount (all weeks) deposited to your Money Network card at the same time.

not always true! when mine got purged i got 2 weeks right away but the other 3 weeks came like 3 days later separately. think it depends on how many weeks ur owed

I had this exact situation in January. The issue is that the PA UC system can have conflicting codes in your account simultaneously. When you receive an eligibility determination but no payment, it's usually because there's still an active disqualification code that the new determination didn't automatically clear. If you're struggling to get through to someone at UC, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). They got me connected to a UC rep in under 20 minutes when I'd been trying for weeks. They have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Once I finally got through and explained the situation, they purged the disqualification immediately, and my payments (including all back weeks) hit my Money Network card 3 business days later. Make sure whoever you speak with confirms they're doing it while you're on the phone.

Thanks for the tip about Claimyr. At this point I'm desperate enough to try anything. Did they tell you specifically what code needed to be purged or did you just ask them to check for conflicting disqualifications?

When I called, I just explained that I had received my eligibility determination but still wasn't getting paid. The rep looked in the system and immediately saw the conflict - she actually said "Oh, I see the problem. You're showing as eligible but there's still a disqualification code active from when your claim was initially processed." You don't need to know the specific code - just explain that you were told your claim needs to be "purged" to remove a disqualification that contradicts your eligibility determination. They'll know what to look for.

THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU GIVE UP!!!! I had THREE purges done on my claim last year and they still didn't pay me for 2 months!!! They say they do it but then magically it "didn't take" in the system! Every time I called they'd say "oh we see the problem" and then nothing would happen. This is DELIBERATE to save the state money by hoping people just give up! Keep calling EVERY DAY until you see the money. Don't trust anything they say about "it's fixed now" until you actually see the deposit!!!

0 coins

That's what I'm worried about - that they'll say it's fixed but nothing happens. Did you ever figure out why yours needed multiple purges? That sounds like a nightmare!

They gave me a different excuse each time! First it was "system error" then "wrong code input" then something about my employer response needing to be manually overridden. Complete GARBAGE excuses. They just don't want to pay people!!!

I don't know anything about purging but I got approved for benefits and it took 3 weeks to get my first payment so maybe they already did it and you just need to wait? have you checked your payment status online?

0 coins

Yeah I check the payment status every morning. Still says "pending" with a disqualification message, even though I got the eligibility letter. That's why I'm so confused!

did u ever work 2 jobs? my cousin had this happen bcuz she had 2 w2s and they had to manually fix something

0 coins

No, just the one job for the past 2 years. I think it's just their system being glitchy from what everyone is saying.

Update us when you get this resolved - it will help others who run into the same issue. Also make sure that when you do speak with a UC representative, get their ID number or name, and ask them to note in your file exactly what they did. This creates an audit trail in case you need to call back.

0 coins

Will do. I'm going to try calling again this morning. If that doesn't work, I might try that Claimyr service someone mentioned. At this point I just need to talk to a real person who can actually fix this!

omg i just realized my payment is late this week too!!! now im worried the same thing is happening to me again. the uc system is the WORST

I went through this exact same situation last month! The "purge" process is basically when they have to manually remove conflicting codes in their system. What happened to me was I had an old disqualification from a previous claim that never got properly cleared, even though my new claim was approved. Here's what I learned: Don't just accept "we'll take care of it" - ask them to do it while you're on the phone and confirm it's completed before you hang up. I made the mistake of trusting the first rep who said she'd handle it, and nothing happened for 2 weeks. When I finally got someone who actually did the purge, they walked me through it step by step: they removed the old code, confirmed my eligibility was active, and told me to expect payment in 3-5 business days. Mine came in 4 days and included all my back weeks in one lump sum. Also, if you're having trouble getting through, try calling right at 8 AM when they open - that's when I had the most luck. Don't give up, you WILL get your money once this gets fixed!

This is really helpful! I'm dealing with the same issue right now - got my eligibility letter but still showing disqualified in the system. Did they give you any specific language to use when asking them to do the purge while you're on the phone? I want to make sure I'm clear about what needs to happen so they can't just brush me off again.

I'm going through this EXACT same thing right now! Filed my claim on March 18th after being laid off from my retail job, got my eligibility determination letter on April 2nd, but my payment status still shows "pending" with some kind of issue flag. I've been calling for over a week and finally got through yesterday - the rep said my claim needs to be "purged" to remove a disqualification that shouldn't be there, but she couldn't do it herself and had to "escalate it to the technical team." Reading all these responses is both reassuring and terrifying - reassuring that I'm not alone but terrifying that some people waited MONTHS for this to get fixed! I'm definitely going to try calling right at 8 AM tomorrow and demand they do the purge while I'm on the phone. Bills don't wait for Pennsylvania's broken system to get its act together! @Dylan Mitchell please keep us updated on what happens - sounds like we're in the same boat and I'm rooting for both of us to get this resolved ASAP!

@CosmicCaptain I'm in the exact same situation! It's so frustrating that we both filed around the same time and are dealing with this purge issue. The "technical team escalation" sounds like another runaround - from what everyone else is saying, this should be something any UC rep can do on the spot. I'm definitely going to push back if they try to tell me they can't do it themselves. We shouldn't have to wait weeks for what sounds like a simple system fix! Keep me posted on how your 8 AM call goes - maybe we can compare notes on what works.

I'm dealing with this nightmare right now too! Filed March 20th and got my eligibility letter April 5th but still nothing on my card. Called yesterday and they said the same thing - needs to be "purged" but the rep acted like she'd never heard of it before and kept putting me on hold to ask someone else. What's really frustrating is that I can see in my online account that I'm approved but then it shows a disqualification at the same time - like how does that even make sense?? Reading everyone's experiences here, it sounds like the key is getting someone who actually knows how to do this purge thing and making them do it while you're on the phone. I'm going to try the 8 AM strategy tomorrow and if that doesn't work, might have to check out that Claimyr service. This system is absolutely broken and it's crazy that we have to fight this hard just to get benefits we're entitled to! Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - at least now I know I'm not going crazy and this is a real issue they can fix once you get the right person.

@Zachary Hughes The conflicting status thing is so maddening! I m'seeing the exact same thing in my account - approved but also disqualified at the same time. It s'like their system can t'decide what s'true. From what I ve'learned reading everyone s'responses, it seems like this is a pretty common glitch in PA s'system where old codes don t'get automatically cleared when new determinations are made. Definitely try the 8 AM call strategy - seems like that s'when you re'most likely to get someone who actually knows what they re'doing. And don t'let them tell you it needs to go to a technical "team -" multiple people here have said regular reps should be able to do the purge on the spot!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! Filed my claim in mid-March, got my eligibility determination letter two weeks ago, but my Money Network card is still empty and my payment status shows "pending" with a disqualification flag. I finally got through to someone yesterday after trying for days, and they confirmed that my claim needs to be "purged" to remove an old disqualification code that's conflicting with my approved status. But here's the kicker - they said they completed the purge while I was on the phone, but when I checked this morning, nothing has changed in my account status! Reading everyone's experiences here, it sounds like I need to call back and verify that the purge actually went through their system. The conflicting codes issue seems to be a widespread problem with PA's UC system. It's absolutely ridiculous that we have to fight this hard just to get benefits we're legally entitled to. @Dylan Mitchell I hope you get this resolved soon! Definitely try calling right at 8 AM - that seems to be the magic time to actually get through to someone competent. And make sure they confirm the purge is completed before you hang up!

@Lucas Bey That s'exactly what I m'worried about - them saying they did it but nothing actually happening! It sounds like we need to be way more aggressive about making sure they actually complete the process. From what I m'reading, maybe we should ask them to check the system again after they say they ve'done the purge, just to confirm the conflicting codes are actually gone? This whole situation is making me realize how broken their system really is. Thanks for sharing your experience - it helps to know others are going through the same thing right now!

I'm going through this exact same nightmare right now! Filed my claim on March 15th after being laid off from my manufacturing job, got my eligibility determination letter on March 28th saying I'm approved, but still haven't seen a penny on my Money Network card. Called UC yesterday and after being on hold for over an hour, they told me my claim needs to be "purged" to remove some old disqualification code that's blocking my payments. The rep said she would take care of it, but reading all these responses has me worried she didn't actually do it! The most frustrating part is seeing "eligible" and "disqualified" at the same time in my online account - like how is that even possible?? It's been over a month since I lost my job and bills are piling up. I'm definitely going to try calling right at 8 AM tomorrow and demand they do the purge while I'm on the phone so I can verify it's actually completed. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it's both comforting and terrifying to know this is such a widespread issue with PA's system. @Dylan Mitchell really hope you get yours resolved soon! This system is absolutely broken and they're basically forcing people to give up by making it so difficult to get what we're entitled to.

@Anastasia Sokolov I m'dealing with the exact same timeline as you! Filed mid-March, got my eligibility letter, but still nothing on my card. The eligible "but disqualified status" showing at the same time is the most frustrating thing - it s'like their system is having an argument with itself! Based on what everyone s'saying here, it sounds like we really need to push back when they say they ll'take "care of it and" make them confirm the purge is actually completed while we re'still on the phone. I m'planning to call at 8 AM tomorrow too and not hang up until I see the conflicting codes are gone from my account. This whole situation is such a mess - we shouldn t'have to become experts in their broken system just to get our benefits!
