PA UC Money Network card suddenly stopped working - anyone else having issues?

I tried using my PA unemployment debit card at an ATM this morning and it was declined. Tried again at the grocery store - same thing. My payment was deposited yesterday according to the UC portal but I can't access ANY of the money! I still have a balance of $842 showing online in my account. Called the Money Network number on the back of the card but got stuck in an endless menu loop. Has anyone else's UC debit card suddenly stopped working? Is this happening to other people right now or just me? I need to pay rent by Friday!

That makes me feel a little better that I'm not alone. Have you tried calling Money Network? I'm wondering if it's a system-wide issue.

This happened to me last year. Two possible issues:\n\n1. Your card might be expired - check the expiration date on the front. Money Network cards usually expire after 3 years.\n\n2. There could be a fraud hold on your account. This happens sometimes when you use the card at a new location or make unusual purchases.\n\nYou need to speak with someone at Money Network directly. The UC office can't help with card issues. Try calling first thing in the morning (7am) when their lines aren't as busy.

Thanks for the tips! My card expires in 2026, so that's not it. Maybe it is a fraud hold because I did use it at a new gas station last week. I'll try calling right at 7am tomorrow.

Everyone I know who's still on unemployment is having this problem!!! It's definitely a system issue. My cousin works at a place that takes these cards and said they've been having people complain all day. Typical PA UC mess up, probably \

I doubt it's a system-wide issue. Money Network is a separate company from PA UC. They just handle the cards, but the systems are separate. Most likely it's an individual account issue or card problem. I'd still recommend calling them directly rather than assuming it will fix itself.

I went through this exact situation last month. After spending THREE DAYS trying to get through to Money Network customer service, I found a service called Claimyr that got me connected to a live person in less than 10 minutes. They connect you directly to Money Network reps and bypass the hold queues. Saved me so much frustration. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2\n\nIn my case, there was a security flag on my account because I had made several purchases in different cities in one day (I was traveling for a job interview). The rep removed the hold immediately once I verified my identity.

Thank you so much for this tip! I've been trying to call for hours now with no luck. I'll check out that service. Did they ask for a lot of personal info or was it pretty straightforward?

It was really simple - they just need your phone number to call you back once they have a rep on the line. The Money Network people will ask for your card info and verification questions, but that's standard procedure. Definitely worth it instead of calling for days.

MY CARD HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR 2 WEEKS!!!! This system is a JOKE!! I've called 37 TIMES and no one helps!! I'm about to be EVICTED and PA UC doesn't care at all!!! I'm filing a complaint with my state rep because this is RIDICULOUS!!!!

I understand your frustration, but Money Network is separate from PA UC. For card issues, you need to speak with Money Network directly. Filing a complaint with your state rep won't resolve a debit card issue since that's handled by the financial institution, not the state agency. Have you tried requesting a replacement card? That might be faster than waiting for the current issue to be resolved.

Has anyone had success getting through on the Money Network phone line? I've been trying all morning and keep getting a busy signal or disconnected. Is there another number besides the one on the back of the card?

The number on the back of the card is the only official one. Best times to call are early morning (7-8am) or late evening (just before they close). Avoid calling on Mondays or during lunch hours when volume is highest. You can also try the online chat option through the Money Network website, though that can also have long wait times.

I work with UC claimants regularly, and card issues are fairly common. Here's what you should know:\n\n1. Money Network cards can be locked for security reasons - unusual purchases, multiple failed PIN attempts, or suspicion of fraud\n\n2. Your funds are safe even if your card isn't working - this is just an access issue\n\n3. You have three options:\n - Keep calling Money Network (best early morning or late evening)\n - Use a service like Claimyr to get through faster\n - Request a replacement card (takes 7-10 business days)\n\nFor immediate needs, you can also change your payment method in your UC portal to direct deposit if you have a bank account. Future payments would go there instead of the card.

Thank you for this detailed info! I didn't realize I could switch to direct deposit mid-claim. I think I'll try that for future payments while I sort out this card issue. Good to know my money is still safe at least.

This reminds me of last year when my sister got locked out of her account because she entered her pin wrong at the gas station. She spent weeks trying to get it fixed. I told her to just use direct deposit but she didn't listen and kept getting the card. Why doesn't everyone just use direct deposit and avoid these headaches? Seems so much simpler.

NOT EVERYONE HAS A BANK ACCOUNT!! Some of us have bad credit or ChexSystems records and CAN'T get approved for accounts. The card is the ONLY option for many people!!

Thanks for checking and posting this update! At least now we know it's not just us. Hopefully they'll fix it soon. I'll keep an eye on the website.

I'm dealing with the same issue! My card was working fine on Monday but got declined at three different places today. Really glad to see the update about the system-wide outage - I was starting to panic thinking my account got frozen or something. Does anyone know if we can still check our balance online during this outage, or is that affected too? I need to know if my weekly payment actually went through before I stress about missing rent money.

I was able to check my balance online just fine this morning - the website seems to be working normally, it's just the actual card transactions that are getting declined. My weekly payment shows as deposited too, so that part of the system is still functioning. The outage notice mentioned it's specifically affecting card authorizations at merchants and ATMs, but account access and balance checking should still work through their website or mobile app.

Same here! My card got declined at the grocery store this afternoon and I was so confused because I just got my payment yesterday. Really relieved to hear it's a system-wide issue and not something wrong with my specific account. Has anyone heard any timeline on when they expect to have this fixed? I have bills due this week and really need access to my funds.

I'm in the exact same boat! My card worked fine yesterday morning but started getting declined everywhere this afternoon. I was freaking out thinking there was a fraud hold on my account or something. The system outage explanation makes so much more sense. I tried calling the Money Network number but couldn't get through - the phone lines are probably swamped with people having the same issue. Hopefully they get this sorted out quickly since so many of us depend on these cards for essential expenses. At least we can still check our balances online to confirm our payments went through!
