PA UC Money Network card suddenly stopped working - no access to benefits

I went to use my Money Network card at the ATM yesterday and it was declined. Tried to buy groceries and same thing - card declined. I checked my PA UC account and it shows my weekly benefits were deposited 3 days ago! I've called the number on the back of the card twice but get stuck in the automated system. Has anyone else experienced this recently? My bills are due next week and I need access to my money ASAP. Is the entire Money Network system down or is it just my card? Should I request a replacement card or is there a faster solution?

This happened to me last month. First check if you've reached the daily withdrawal limit - it's pretty low on these cards. Next, make sure your PIN wasn't somehow reset. Try logging into the Money Network mobile app to check your balance and see if there are any alerts on your account. Sometimes they freeze cards if they detect suspicious activity, even small things like trying different ATMs in the same day can trigger it.

Thanks, I'll try the app. I don't think it's the withdrawal limit since I can't even check my balance at the ATM. And I've only been using it at the same places for weeks. I'm worried my benefits might have been stopped but my UC dashboard still shows 'active'...

So frustrating! Did they ever tell you why it gets declined so often? I'm wondering if my card is defective or something.

There are a few things to check when your Money Network card isn't working: 1. Verify that your UC payments are actually being deposited to the card (check your payment history in your PA UC portal) 2. Make sure your card hasn't expired - check the expiration date 3. Try calling the Money Network customer service at 888-233-5916 (different than the number on the card sometimes) 4. If you recently reported your address change to PA UC, make sure Money Network also has your updated address In my experience, Money Network and PA UC don't always communicate well, so sometimes you need to update information in both systems.

I would add that I've had luck with the Money Network website when the card isn't working. You can check transaction history and sometimes there will be error codes that explain what's happening. You'll need your card number and to set up an account if you haven't already.

Are you sure your benefits weren't exhausted? Sometimes the UC portal shows payments issued but your actual benefit balance is zero. Happened to me and I spent 3 days thinking Money Network was the problem!

I double checked and I should have 11 more weeks of benefits left according to my claim summary. I'm going to try the website suggestion but the mobile app keeps giving me an error too.

If you're still having trouble reaching Money Network customer service, you might want to try Claimyr. I was in a similar situation last month - card suddenly stopped working, couldn't reach anyone. Claimyr got me connected to a PA UC agent who was able to check if there were holds on my payments and then transferred me to Money Network support. Saved me days of frustration. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 and their website is claimyr.com. The PA UC agent told me sometimes there are flags on accounts that only they can see and remove.

Thanks for this suggestion! I've been trying to get through all morning with no luck. I'll check this out if I can't resolve it today. Did they explain why your card stopped working?

Yeah, turns out there was an identity verification flag that got triggered somehow. The UC agent removed it and my card started working again within hours. Apparently it's pretty common after they did system updates in January.

I wish it was that simple! I know my PIN by heart since I use it weekly, but I suppose anything's possible. How long did it take you to get through to a real person on their customer service line?

UPDATE: There was actually a system-wide issue with Money Network cards connected to PA UC yesterday. It's been resolved as of this morning according to the PA UC Twitter account. Try your card again today and see if it works now. If not, you definitely need to speak with Money Network directly as it might be a problem specific to your card.

OMG THANK YOU! I just tried my card at the gas station and it worked! Would have been nice if they sent out alerts about this instead of leaving us all panicking. Really appreciate the update.

This is y i always transfer my UC money to my regular bank account as soon as it hits the card. dont trust these government cards AT ALL

This is actually good advice. You can set up automatic transfers from Money Network to your personal bank account. Takes 1-2 business days but eliminates a lot of these card headaches.

Glad you got it sorted out! For future reference, PA UC also has a text alert system you can sign up for that will notify you about system outages and maintenance. You can enable it in your UC dashboard under notification preferences. Would have saved you (and all of us) a lot of stress! Also seconding the automatic transfer suggestion - I've been doing that for months and it's been a lifesaver.

This is super helpful - I had no idea about the text alert system! Just signed up for it. Definitely would have prevented the panic yesterday. And yes, setting up the automatic transfer is next on my list. Thanks for all the tips everyone, this community is amazing for sharing these kinds of solutions!
