PA UC 'Audit for New Hire' status frozen for 2+ months - what to do after state rep intervention didn't help?
I'm stuck in this weird PA unemployment limbo and don't know what to do next. I worked at a company for only 5 weeks (started June 8th and was let go July 15th, 2025). I filed for UC benefits and got paid ONE week, then my claim suddenly changed to "Audit for New Hire" status on July 25th and no more payments came through. It's been over 2 months with zero updates! I contacted my state representative's office last week (Sept 28th) because I was desperate. They actually had someone from UC call me the next day, which seemed promising. The UC rep told me they'd have a determination "either this week or next week" but here we are at the end of that timeframe with nothing. No updates, no changes to my dashboard, no communication whatsoever. I'm only looking for about 6 weeks of payments since I started a new job on August 30th. I've checked my dashboard obsessively and no change. What else can I possibly do to get this resolved? Has anyone dealt with the "Audit for New Hire" status before?

The "Audit for New Hire" status happens when they're checking your employment details with your previous employer. It's frustrating but not uncommon. Since you already reached out to your state rep (which was smart!), your next step should be to file an appeal for "failure to issue a determination in a timely manner." You have the right to appeal even without a determination if it's been over 30 days. Just write that you've been waiting since July 25th for a determination on your claim and want to appeal the delay. This often triggers action on their part.

•Thanks for the info! I didn't know I could appeal without having a determination yet. Do I file that appeal through my UC dashboard or is there a separate form? And should I mention that I already talked to someone from UC through my state rep?

•10 weeks?? That's insane. Did you ever get your money eventually or did they just deny it completely?

I had this EXACT situation back in April. "Audit for New Hire" is basically them checking if you quit or were fired from that 5-week job. My guess is your former employer is either 1) not responding to UC's requests for information or 2) disputing your claim saying you quit/were fired for cause. Either way, PA UC is TERRIBLE at resolving these quickly!!! I waited 11 weeks before getting my determination!!!! The system is BROKEN and they don't care that people need money to LIVE!!!

•That's really discouraging to hear. I definitely didn't quit - they told me it wasn't a good fit after my training period. But I have no idea if they're telling UC something different. 11 weeks is ridiculous!

Have you tried calling the UC service center directly? Sometimes you get lucky and get through.

•I've tried calling at least 15 times over the past 2 months. Either get a busy signal or the automated message saying call volume is too high and to try again later. It's impossible!

After 2 months with no resolution, I'd recommend using Claimyr to get through to a PA UC representative quickly. I was stuck in a similar situation (mine was "pending" status for 6 weeks), and after trying everything else, I used their service and got connected to UC in about 15 minutes. The rep was able to see exactly what was causing the delay and pushed my claim forward. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The state rep helping you was a good step, but sometimes you need to actually speak with a UC claims examiner who can look at your specific case notes.

•This actually WORKS?? I've never heard of this service before. Seems sketchy to pay just to talk to UC when it should be FREE to begin with!!

•It's not sketchy - they just use technology to handle the calling and waiting for you. I was skeptical too but after wasting hours trying to call myself, it was worth it to finally get my issue resolved. They don't access your account or anything, they just connect the call once they get through.

hey so i had a similar thing last year but it was listed as "employer protest" instead of audit for new hire. i think thats basically the same thing tho. i waited like 4 weeks then went to the CareerLink office in person and they helped me. might be worth trying that way

•Thanks for the suggestion! There's a CareerLink about 20 minutes from me. I didn't realize they could help with UC issues - I thought they just did job search stuff. I'll definitely try that!

Quick update on my earlier comment - the appeal form is on the PA UC website under "Appeals" section. You'll want to fill out the form UC-46A. Make sure you specifically state that you're appealing the "failure to issue a timely determination" and include all the dates (when you filed, when it went to audit status, when you contacted your rep, etc.). Also, since you already started a new job, make sure you've properly reported your return to work date to stop the claim appropriately. Sometimes these audit issues resolve themselves but they don't tell you, and then you could end up with an overpayment notice if you didn't properly stop claiming when you started working.

•This is super helpful - thank you! I did report my return to work date in the system when I started the new job, so hopefully that part is fine. I'll look for that appeals form right now.

i had the audit for new hire thing too and what actually happened was my previous employer told them i quit when i was actually laid off!!! make sure u check with ur previous employer what they told UC cuz sometimes they lie to avoid their UI tax going up. it took me going to a hearing to finally get my money (like 3 months later).

•Oh wow, I didn't even think about that possibility. I'll try to reach out to HR at my previous job and see if they'll tell me what they reported. I was definitely let go during my probationary period, but maybe they reported it differently. Thanks for the tip!

Just to add one more important point - make sure you're checking both your dashboard AND your physical mail. PA UC often sends determination letters via regular mail that don't show up in the online system. And sometimes they'll send requests for additional information this way too. If you miss responding to one of these, it can further delay your claim.

•That's a good point - I've been obsessively checking my mailbox too, but haven't received anything from them. I'm going to try the appeal process mentioned above and also try to check with my previous employer to see what they reported. If those don't work, I might try that Claimyr service someone mentioned just to finally talk to a real person. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
