Does anyone know if we still have to do those weekly work search activities when we're on medical leave? I'm so confused about this!!
If you're able to work but were separated for medical reasons that have resolved, yes, you need to complete weekly work search activities (applying to jobs, attending workshops, etc.). However, if you're currently unable to work due to ongoing medical issues, you should be on medical leave rather than regular UC. Those are two different systems with different requirements.
One more important thing to consider - make sure you file within the appropriate timeframe. In PA, you should file your initial claim during the first week you are unemployed. Filing late can complicate things unnecessarily. Also, be prepared that the initial determination might take longer in cases involving medical issues because they often require additional fact-finding.
Oh thank you for mentioning this! I just got the text today saying I was terminated, so I'll make sure to file this week. Is there anything specific I should say about the medical issues when I file online? The form options don't always seem to fit complicated situations.
Yes, they connected me directly to a UC representative who pulled up my claim and helped me. The rep told me exactly what documents they needed and the best way to submit them. For your case, make sure you emphasize that you had a FIRM offer that was rescinded through no fault of your own. That's the key to getting approved under PA's rules for voluntary quits.
i agree with this. my sister was denied at first because the examiner didnt understand she had a definite offer not just an interview or possibility. getting someone on the phone to explain can make all the difference
One more thing - make sure you're answering your phone even if you don't recognize the number. UC examiners often call from blocked or strange numbers, and if you miss their call, it can delay your case even more. Also check your spam/junk email folder daily for any communications from them. When they finally do contact you, be prepared to clearly explain your situation in a concise, factual way.
That's good advice - I've been letting unknown calls go to voicemail due to all the spam calls I get. I'll start answering everything just to be safe. Thanks everyone for the helpful information. I'll update once I hear something from UC.
Update: Used Claimyr this morning and got through to PA UC in about 15 minutes! The rep confirmed that I qualified for additional benefits within my current benefit year because I had enough work hours. They're processing it now and said my payments should continue without interruption. So relieved!
That's great news! I just tried the Claimyr service too and finally got through after weeks of trying. The UC rep said I do qualify for additional benefits since I've been working 20+ hours weekly throughout my claim period. She said to just keep filing my weekly claims as normal and they'll automatically transition me to additional benefits with no gap. Such a relief!
my buddy just went through this!! he only worked at his job for like 2 months but still got benefits bcuz he had worked at another place all last year. the key thing is how much u earned in the base year not how long u were at 1 specific job. also make sure u do the work search activities every week once ur on uc or they can cut off ur benefits real quick lol
Great point about the work search activities - you need to complete and document at least 2 work search activities each week (like applying for jobs, attending job fairs, etc.). This is required starting with your first week of benefits - a lot of people miss this and then have problems with their claims.
Wanna add something important that no one has mentioned: if you quit instead of getting fired, you'll almost certainly be denied benefits! I was at a toxic job last year & quit, then got denied UC. Had to wait 3 months to find another job with zero income. So if you think they might fire you, DON'T quit first even if they suggest it!
This is correct. If you quit voluntarily, you generally won't qualify for UC unless you can prove you had a "necessitous and compelling reason" to quit (like unsafe working conditions, harassment, or medical issues that the employer wouldn't accommodate). Always better to be laid off or terminated for performance reasons than to quit if UC benefits might be needed.
did u check if ur Money Network card is active?? could be there instead of bank account
UPDATE: I got my money!! After sending the email to that interstate.correction address, they fixed it within 24 hours and the payment hit my account this morning. For anyone else with this issue - definitely email that special address and be super clear that it's showing paid but linked to another state somehow. Thank you everyone for your help! I can pay my rent now!
Excellent! Glad to hear it worked out. For future reference, it's always good to keep that email address handy in case it happens again, since this issue has been recurring for some claimants.
did u make sure to look for work? they won't pay if u don't do the work search activities each week. i forgot to do it one week and they stopped my payments
Yes, I've been doing all my work search activities! I keep a detailed log of everything and make sure to enter it when I file my weekly claim. The issue isn't with my work search - it's definitely related to the appeal.
This whole system is so frustrating! Just when you think everything is fine, employers can throw a wrench in the works with these bogus appeals. In my experience, even after an appeal is withdrawn, there's almost always some kind of delay. The UC system seems designed to make it as difficult as possible to get benefits we're entitled to. I would not just sit back and wait. Keep calling, check your portal daily, and document everything. And definitely follow up if you don't see movement in a few days.
truth!! the whole system is rigged against us workers. employers got all the power and UC doesnt care if we cant pay rent
UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know that my payments showed up as pending this morning! Looks like they're processing all the weeks that were held during the appeal. Such a relief! Thanks to everyone who helped me understand what was going on.
@confused123 - Yes, Claimyr definitely works. I was skeptical too, but after spending hours getting busy signals trying to call PA UC the normal way, it connected me to an agent in about 20 minutes. Totally worth it for getting my claim unstuck. The "monetarily ineligible" issue usually means they're missing wage information from one of your employers - that's exactly what happened to my wife.
One more thing I forgot to mention - make sure your husband's identity verification is complete. PA uses ID.me now, and sometimes people miss that step. If the system is asking him to verify his identity through ID.me, he needs to complete that before his claim can move forward. It should be clear on his dashboard if this is needed.
He didn't mention anything about ID verification, but I'll have him check right now. Thank you for all your help - this community has been so helpful!
One more thing - if you're consistently getting partial payments, you might want to double check that your employer is properly reporting your reduced hours as a partial unemployment situation, not just reduced hours. Some employers don't understand the difference and it can cause issues down the line with your claim.
This is excellent advice. Your employer should be reporting your status as partially unemployed due to lack of available work, not just that you're working fewer hours by choice. This distinction matters for ongoing claim validity.
Thanks everyone for the helpful information! I understand the partial payment system much better now. I'll make sure to: 1) complete my work search activities even during partial weeks, 2) check with my employer about how they're reporting my reduced hours, and 3) be prepared for possible payment delays. Really appreciate all the advice!
UPDATE: Just checked the PA UC Twitter account and they've acknowledged a system issue with filing dates that's affecting some claims. They say they're working on a fix and recommend people keep trying or use the phone system. They also extended the filing window by 3 days for those affected.
Thank you so much for checking that! I don't use Twitter so I would have missed this information. That's a huge relief to know they're aware of it and extending the filing window.
thx for the update! at least they know its happening
Just wanted to follow up - were you able to file successfully? The PA UC website is showing the issue has been resolved as of this morning.
Yes! I was finally able to file this morning without any errors. The system seems to be working normally now. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

To answer your original question more specifically: Current average timeframes in PA (as of June 2025) are: - Determination letter: 14-21 days after disqualification - Hearing scheduled: 4-7 weeks after appeal submission - Hearing decision: 1-3 weeks after hearing - Payment (if you win): 1-2 weeks after favorable decision So altogether, you're looking at approximately 7-13 weeks from disqualification to payment if you win your appeal. Remember to keep filing weekly claims during this entire process!

•Thank you so much for the detailed breakdown. I filed my appeal today and I'll make sure to keep doing my weekly claims. Looks like I'm in for a long wait but at least I know what to expect now.
