my wifes claim took exactly 26 days in february when she got laid off. they never contacted her once during the entire time, just suddenly got an email saying she was approved. make sure ur checking the portal everyday because sometimes they dont even notify you when things change
Thanks everyone for all the advice! I'm on day 22 now, so it sounds like I'm still within the normal timeframe (even though it feels like forever!). I'm going to keep filing my weekly claims and if nothing changes by next week, I'll try using that Claimyr service to get through to someone at UC. Really appreciate all your help and suggestions - this waiting game is so stressful when bills are due!
This happened to me too but for a totally different reason. Turns out my internet security software was blocking the site. Check if you have any firewalls or antivirus that might be interfering. I had to add the UC site to my exceptions list and then it worked fine on my laptop. But while I'm here - anyone know how to change your bank account info in the system? I got a new checking account and need to update my direct deposit but can't find that option anywhere...
To update your bank account information, log in and go to "View and Maintain Account Information" and then select "Update Payment Information." It's under a different menu than you might expect. Just be aware that any change to direct deposit information will trigger a paper check for your next payment as a security measure, and the direct deposit to your new account won't start until the following payment.
UPDATE: The compatibility mode trick worked!!! Thank you all so much for your help. I was able to file my weekly claim without any issues. The site does look super outdated now but I don't even care as long as it works. For anyone else having this problem, definitely try the compatibility mode in your browser first!
Great to hear you got it working! For future reference, the PA UC site typically undergoes maintenance on the third Sunday of each month from 3am-7am, though emergency maintenance can happen at other times. They're supposed to post notices about planned outages, but they often don't. Always try to file your weekly claims as early in your window as possible to avoid these kinds of last-minute stresses.
To answer your original question directly: Yes, MLK Day will delay payments by one business day since it's a federal bank holiday. If you normally receive payment on Tuesday, expect it Wednesday. Here's the complete info on how holidays affect UC payments: 1) If you file your weekly certification on Sunday as usual, PA UC will still process your claim that day 2) However, the ACH transfer to banks doesn't initiate until the next business day 3) Since Monday is a holiday, the transfer won't start until Tuesday 4) Most banks then take 24 hours to post the deposit, meaning Wednesday delivery If you're concerned about making rent, you might want to talk to your landlord in advance and explain the situation. Most are understanding about verified payment delays due to federal holidays.
This happens every holiday and it always stresses me out too! Last year I switched to the Money Network card and it sometimes posts a day faster than my old direct deposit did. Just an option to consider for the future.
One other important thing to remember - if your training pay is significant, it might put you over the partial benefit threshold for that week. For example, if your weekly benefit amount is $400 and your partial benefit credit is $100, then earning more than $500 in a week would make you ineligible for benefits that specific week. But you would still be eligible for the following weeks when you have no earnings until your job officially starts in March. Just make sure to answer all weekly claim questions honestly. Better to have one week without benefits than to risk an overpayment issue later on.

While we're waiting for the system to let us file, does anyone know if holiday pay counts against unemployment? My company paid us for Christmas day even though we were laid off that week.

•Yes, holiday pay does count as earnings for unemployment purposes in PA. When you file your weekly certification, you'll need to report any holiday pay received for days within that claim week. The system will calculate partial benefits if your holiday pay doesn't exceed your weekly benefit amount.

Update: I waited until 01/07 as everyone suggested, and you were all right! The system let me file for both weeks I was off work. Everything went smoothly and I just got my first payment deposited to my Money Network card today. Thanks everyone for the help and preventing me from panicking and potentially messing up my claim by trying to "fix" something that wasn't broken!
