I went through something very similar earlier this year! Won my PUA appeal after they tried to make me pay back $11,000. Here's what I learned from the process: The good news is that yes, you should absolutely get backpay for all the weeks you were eligible but didn't receive due to the incorrect overpayment. Since the referee ruled you WERE eligible for PUA, that means all those weeks they withheld payments should be processed. A few tips based on my experience: - It took about 6 weeks total for everything to process after my decision became final - The overpayment disappeared first (around week 3), then backpay came about 2-3 weeks later - Make sure you keep filing your biweekly certifications even if you're not getting paid - If nothing happens after the 15-day appeal period expires, definitely try to get through to someone by phone The waiting is the worst part, but hang in there! The system is slow but it should work out in your favor since you won the appeal. Keep us updated on how it goes!
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's so reassuring to hear from someone who went through almost the exact same situation. The $11,000 they tried to make you pay back is crazy - these overpayment notices seem to be hitting everyone. Six weeks total doesn't sound too bad considering how long this whole process has already taken. I'll definitely keep filing my biweekly certifications and try to be patient. It's just hard when you're struggling financially and know the money should rightfully be coming to you. I really appreciate the encouragement!
Congratulations on winning your appeal! That's a huge victory against PA UC. I went through a similar situation last year with a $8,900 overpayment that got reversed after my appeal. From my experience, you should definitely get backpay for all those weeks you were eligible but didn't receive payment. Since the referee specifically ruled you WERE eligible for PUA, that overturns their original determination completely. Here's what happened in my case: It took about 4 weeks after the appeal decision became final for the overpayment to be removed from my account. The backpay came through about 2 weeks after that. I got a lump sum payment for all the weeks I had certified for but didn't receive. One thing that helped me was calling every few days after the 3-week mark to check if there were any system issues holding things up. I know the phones are terrible, but sometimes they need to manually clear flags on your account. Keep your chin up - the hardest part is behind you now that you've won the appeal! The system is slow but it should process your backpay automatically since you have those "Credit Applied to Overpayment" entries showing.
Thank you so much for sharing your timeline! It's really helpful to hear that yours took about 6 weeks total from decision to getting the backpay. The fact that you also had those "Credit Applied to Overpayment" entries and everything worked out gives me a lot of hope. I've been so stressed about this whole situation - fighting PA UC for months really wears you down financially and emotionally. I'll definitely try calling after the 3-week mark if I don't see any movement in my account. It's encouraging to know that once you win the appeal, the system usually does eventually catch up and process everything correctly, even if it takes time.
Just went through this same situation a few months ago! The timing really is frustrating when you have bills due. One thing that helped me was setting up text alerts with my bank for low balances so I could catch any potential overdrafts while waiting for the card. Also, if you have any credit cards, you might want to pay essential bills with those temporarily and then pay them off once your card arrives. It's not ideal but better than late fees. The good news is once you get through this initial transition, the Money Network card is actually pretty convenient - no more waiting for checks in the mail or worrying about them getting lost.
That's really smart advice about using credit cards temporarily! I wish I had thought of that earlier. The text alerts for low balances is a great tip too. It's reassuring to hear that once you get through the initial hassle, the card system works better than waiting for checks. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I switched from checks to the Money Network card about 6 months ago and here's what I learned: The 7-10 day wait is pretty standard, but there are a few things you can do to prepare. First, call Money Network at 888-233-5916 once you get a confirmation that your card has been requested - they can usually tell you when it was mailed out. Second, download their mobile app ahead of time so you're ready to activate immediately when it arrives. The funds from your weekly certifications will accumulate on the card even before you activate it, so you won't lose any payments. Also, keep in mind that the first time you use the card at an ATM, there might be a temporary hold for security verification, so try to activate and test it before you absolutely need the funds. The transition is definitely inconvenient but once you're through it, having instant access to your benefits is much better than waiting for checks to arrive and clear.
Just to update everyone, I just got my deposit now (Thursday morning) on Chime. Looks like there was a system-wide delay because my payment history shows it was processed last night at 11:43pm. Everyone should be getting theirs soon if you don't have any issues with your claim.
Same thing happened to me - no payment yet on my PNC account either. Filed Sunday night and usually get it by Wednesday morning. Really hoping it's just the system delays everyone is talking about and not an issue with my claim. This is so stressful when you're living paycheck to paycheck (or in this case, UC payment to UC payment). Going to check my payment history again in a few hours and see if it shows as processed yet.
Based on what others are saying in this thread, it sounds like there was system maintenance over the weekend that's causing delays across different banks, not just Chime. @749676c017b1 and @e91049671091 just got their payments this morning, so hopefully yours will come through soon too! The stress is so real when you're depending on these payments - maybe try checking your payment history on the UC portal to see if it shows as processed yet.
Just went through this process myself! Filed my appeal in December for identity verification issues (even though I did the ID.me thing multiple times too - so frustrating!). Got my hearing scheduled exactly 6 weeks later, had the hearing last week, and won! Here's what I learned: 1. The retroactive payments go all the way back to your original filing date in January, not just from when you appealed 2. Keep doing those weekly certifications no matter what - this is crucial! 3. For the hearing, bring EVERYTHING identity-related you can find. I brought: driver's license, Social Security card, birth certificate, passport, utility bills, bank statements, tax returns, pay stubs from previous job, and even my voter registration card 4. The hearing itself was pretty straightforward - they just wanted to verify I was who I said I was My payments were released about 8 business days after the hearing decision. Hang in there - the wait is awful but if you have all your documentation ready, you should be fine. The identity verification denials seem to be getting overturned pretty regularly from what I've seen.
This gives me so much hope! 6 weeks is still a long time but knowing there's a light at the end of the tunnel helps. I'm definitely going to follow your document strategy - sounds like you came super prepared. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through all these hoops when we already did the ID.me verification multiple times, but at least it sounds like the hearings are going well for people with identity issues. Thanks for sharing your timeline and congrats on winning your appeal!
I'm going through something similar right now - filed my appeal about 3 weeks ago for the same identity verification issue. It's so frustrating because like you, I completed the ID.me process multiple times and even got confirmation emails! From what I've been reading here and elsewhere, it seems like these identity verification denials are pretty common but also frequently overturned on appeal. The retroactive payment thing is huge - knowing that you'll get paid back to your original filing date if you win makes the wait a bit more bearable. One thing I've started doing is keeping a detailed log of every step I took during the ID.me process, including screenshots and confirmation emails. I figure it can't hurt to have that extra documentation ready for the hearing. Also started gathering all my identity documents now so I'm not scrambling later. The waiting is the worst part though. Every day without income makes everything more stressful. Stay strong and keep filing those weekly claims!
That's smart to keep a detailed log of the ID.me process! I wish I had thought to screenshot everything when I was doing it. The confirmation emails are definitely good to have - I still have mine saved too. It's really encouraging to hear that these identity verification denials are getting overturned regularly. Makes me feel like I'm not crazy for thinking this whole situation is ridiculous. We shouldn't have to prove we're ourselves multiple times! Thanks for the support and good luck with your appeal too - hopefully we'll both be getting our back pay soon!

Has anyone noticed that the PA UC system ALWAYS seems to update slower when it means they have to PAY US, but if they think we owe THEM money the system updates instantly?? Just saying...

UPDATE: You guys were right! I checked my portal this morning and ALL my claims now show 'In Progress' including the 2025 ones! Looks like it just took about 4 days for everything to update in their system. Thanks everyone for your help and keeping me from panicking unnecessarily!
