Why isn't my unemployment claim showing up in NYS Department of Labor system?

Filed my unemployment claim with NYS Department of Labor about 5 days ago and it's still not showing up anywhere in my my.ny.gov account. I got a confirmation number when I submitted it but when I log in there's literally nothing there - no claim status, no weekly certification option, nothing. I'm starting to panic because I need to file my first weekly claim soon. Has anyone else had their claim just disappear like this? I've tried logging out and back in multiple times.

This happened to me too! It can take up to 7-10 business days for your initial claim to fully process and appear in the system. The confirmation number means NYS Department of Labor received it, but there's a delay between submission and when it shows up in your online account. Don't panic yet - you're still within the normal timeframe.

Oh thank god, I was thinking I did something wrong when I filed. So I should just wait a few more days before worrying?

That's reassuring! Did you get any notifications when it finally appeared or did you just have to keep checking?

If it's been more than 10 business days and still nothing shows up, you'll need to contact NYS Department of Labor directly. Sometimes claims get stuck in their initial processing queue, especially if there were any data entry issues or if you have previous claim history that needs to be reviewed. The phone lines are usually swamped though - I had to call dozens of times last year when this happened to my brother.

Getting through to NYS Department of Labor on the phone is absolutely impossible! I tried calling for THREE WEEKS straight when my claim was stuck in adjudication. The system just hangs up on you after being on hold forever.

I actually found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to NYS Department of Labor agents by phone. They have this video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Basically they handle all the calling and waiting for you, then connect you when an agent picks up. Used it when my weekly claims weren't showing up correctly and got through in like 20 minutes instead of spending days trying myself.

Make sure you're looking in the right place too - sometimes people log into the wrong portal. Your unemployment stuff should be under the 'Unemployment Services' section when you log into my.ny.gov, not just the main dashboard.

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! Filed my claim 6 days ago and nothing is showing up in my account either. It's so stressful not knowing if everything went through properly. Reading these comments makes me feel a bit better knowing it's normal for there to be a delay. I guess I'll keep checking daily and hope it appears soon. The waiting is the worst part when you're already stressed about being unemployed.

I totally understand that stress! I went through the same thing last year and it really is nerve-wracking when you can't see any proof that your claim is being processed. The waiting game is brutal, especially when you're already dealing with job loss anxiety. From what I've learned, that confirmation number you got is actually a good sign - it means NYS Department of Labor definitely has your application. Try to hang in there for a few more days, and like others mentioned, keep checking under the 'Unemployment Services' section specifically. You're not alone in this!

I had this exact same problem earlier this year! It took about 9 days for my claim to finally show up in the system. What really helped me was saving that confirmation number somewhere safe - I wrote it down and took a screenshot just in case. When it finally did appear, all my information was there and I could immediately start doing my weekly certifications. The NYS Department of Labor system is definitely slow to update, but as long as you have that confirmation number, you should be good. Try not to stress too much about it - I know it's easier said than done when you're waiting for benefits to kick in.

That's really good advice about saving the confirmation number! I screenshot mine too just in case. It's reassuring to hear from so many people who went through the same thing. I think the worst part is not knowing if you filled something out wrong or if the system just lost your application. But it sounds like this delay is totally normal with NYS Department of Labor. I'll try to be patient for a few more days and keep that confirmation number handy. Thanks for sharing your experience!
