What does eligible redetermined mean for unemployment NYS Department of Labor claim status?
I've been checking my claim status on my.ny.gov every day and today it changed from 'pending' to 'eligible redetermined'. I have no idea what this means and I'm kind of freaking out. Does this mean they approved my claim or are they reviewing it again? I filed my initial claim about 6 weeks ago and have been doing my weekly certifications but haven't received any payments yet. Has anyone seen this status before? Should I be worried or relieved?

Eligible redetermined usually means NYS Department of Labor reviewed your claim and confirmed you meet the eligibility requirements. It's generally a good sign - they've made a positive determination about your benefits. You should start seeing payments soon if you've been filing your weekly claims correctly.

This happened to me last year. Basically they had to redetermine my eligibility because there was some issue with my initial application - I think it was because I had multiple employers. Once it changed to eligible redetermined I got my backpay within a week. Make sure you keep doing your weekly certifications!

•Just waited. The redetermination process can take a while but once you see that status you're basically approved.

ugh the nys department of labor website is so confusing with all these different statuses... mine said pending for like 2 months before anything happened

If you're still having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to check on this, I had success using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually reach a real person. Eligible redetermined means they've completed their review and you qualify for benefits. The 'redetermined' part usually happens when there was some initial question about your eligibility that required additional review. Since you filed 6 weeks ago, they probably needed time to verify your employment history or wage information with your former employer.

I went through this exact same thing! "Eligible redetermined" is actually great news - it means they've finished reviewing your case and confirmed you're approved for benefits. The delay you experienced is pretty normal, especially with the 6-week timeframe. In my case, I got my first payment (including all the back payments) about 5-7 business days after seeing this status change.
