New York Unemployment Mandatory Phone Calls - How Often Do They Happen?
Getting ready for my third mandatory unemployment phone call. Starting to wonder if this is going to be a monthly thing the whole time I'm on unemployment. Anyone know how many of these calls we have to do? Just trying to plan ahead.

I had to do like 4 of them total. They space them out weird tho, sometimes its 3 weeks sometimes its 6 weeks. Super annoying but u gotta do it 🤷♂️

Hey if ur having trouble getting through to them for the mandatory call, I found this service called claimyr.com that calls and waits on hold for you. Costs $20 but worth it imo. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Listen up everyone - here's the ACTUAL deal with these calls based on my experience and what I've learned from others: The mandatory calls aren't strictly monthly. They typically happen 4-6 times during your claim period, but the timing varies. They're checking if you're actively job searching and available for work. Tips for handling them: - Keep detailed records of your job search efforts - Answer all calls from NY numbers during business hours - If you miss a call, use claimyr.com to get through quickly - Have your work search records ready before the call Don't stress too much about it - just stay organized and you'll be fine!

Just went through this whole process myself! Had 5 calls total over 6 months - they're definitely not monthly like I thought they'd be. The timing seems totally random but they do eventually stop once you establish a pattern of compliance. My advice is to always answer unknown NY numbers during business hours and keep a simple log of your job search activities. Makes the calls way less stressful when you're prepared!

•this is really reassuring! i was getting stressed thinking id have to deal with these calls every single month for however long unemployment lasts. good tip about keeping a job search log too - probably makes the whole conversation go smoother when you can just rattle off what youve been doing

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences! I'm on my second call and was definitely worried this would be a monthly torture session. Sounds like it varies a lot but eventually stops - that's a huge relief. @Sophie Hernandez your breakdown was super helpful, especially about keeping detailed job search records. I've been kind of winging it with my documentation but clearly need to get more organized before the next call hits!
