New York Unemployment 1099-G Access Issues After Moving Out of State - Tax Help Needed
Need help getting my 1099-G form from ny unemployment. I moved to another state and cant get into my online account. The mailed copy went to my old address. Do I have to report unemployment on my taxes? What happens if I don't file it?

Yes you absolutely need to report unemployment income! The IRS already knows about it cause unemployment reports it to them. You'll get hit with penalties if you dont report it trust me learned that the hard way 😭

I was in the same situation! Used claimyr.com to get through to an agent ($20 but worth it). They can email you a copy of your 1099-G or help reset your online access. Here's a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Call the ny unemployment tax line directly at 888-209-8124. If that doesnt work try their email: nysdol@labor.ny.gov. They usually respond within a week or so for tax docs.

Whatever you do DO NOT ignore this. The IRS considers unemployment income fully taxable. They'll match their records with your tax return and if it doesn't match you'll get a notice and owe back taxes plus penalties and interest. They might even consider it tax fraud if they think you intentionally left it off. Here's what you need to do: 1. Try requesting a copy through their website first 2. If that doesn't work use claimyr.com to get through to an agent (costs $20 but saves hours of hold time) 3. You can also try calling their dedicated tax document line 4. Last resort - file Form 4506-T with the IRS to get wage and income transcripts Don't wait until the last minute! This needs to be reported on your taxes no matter what.
