Need a working number for NY unemployment to report new job - worried about this week's payment
I started a new job last week and tried to report it through the online system. But when I selected that I "went back to work" option, now it's showing a break in claim. I'm worried I won't get paid for this week since I only worked 2 days at my new job! Does anyone have a working phone number to reach someone at unemployment? I've been trying for 3 days and keep getting disconnected or put on hold forever. Need to know if I'll still get paid for the days I wasn't working this week or if I messed everything up by clicking that option.

Try 1-888-209-8124. But good luck getting through. I spent literally 4 hours on hold last month for a similar issue and then got disconnected. The system is total garbage.

•that number is useless tbh. i've called like 50+ times and either get disconnected or wait for 2+ hours only to have someone who can't help me

•Pro tip: call exactly at 8:00am when they open. That's how I finally got through after trying for days.

I finally reached someone after trying for WEEKS by using Claimyr.com - it calls for you and then connects when a real person picks up. I had the exact same issue where I reported going back to work and my payments stopped. The agent fixed it in like 5 minutes once I actually got to talk to someone. Best money I've spent to get my benefits sorted out! They have a video about how it works here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•This sounds like an ad. Does this actually work? How much does it cost?

•Not an ad lol. It seriously saved me from losing my mind. They stay on hold for you and call when someone picks up. My benefits got released the same day after being stuck for over a week.

•Believe what you want but I got through and fixed my issue. Was worth every penny considering I was about to miss rent without my payment.

•I actually used this last week too. It works! Got a call back in about 45 mins and agent fixed my issue.

Same thing happened to me in April. You're probably not going to get paid for this week. When you mark "returned to work" it ends your benefit year. You have to call to get a partial payment for days you weren't working. And yes, its completely stupid.

I dont think your gonna get paid this week. Its how the system is designed - to screw us over at every chance. You should be able to certify for partial benefits for the days you didnt work but the online system is such trash you probably need to call. Good luck with that 🤦♂️

•This is so frustrating! I only worked TWO DAYS at the new job. Why would they cut off the whole weeks benefits???

•welcome to the wonderful world of NY unemployment where nothing makes sense and everything is broken on purpose

Look at your payment history online. If it shows $0.00 for this week with a break in claim message, then you won't get paid until you talk to a rep to fix it. You need to explain that you only worked partial week and they can adjust it. But seriously - CALLING IS IMPOSSIBLE unless you have all day to waste.

•It's showing pending with no amount. So frustrating because I really need that money for this week!

•Pending usually means they're reviewing it. Might actually go through. Check again tomorrow morning.

Here's what you need to know about NY unemployment when returning to work: When you select "returned to work" it triggers a complete stop to your benefits. This is different from reporting partial work where you just report your hours/earnings. What you need to do: 1. Call and explain you only worked part of the week 2. Ask them to process a partial payment for the days you didn't work 3. Be clear about exactly which days you worked and how many hours This is literally impossible to fix online - you MUST speak to a representative. After spending countless hours trying to reach them myself, I discovered Claimyr.com which calls for you and connects when a person answers. Absolute lifesaver when dealing with NY unemployment's broken phone system. Also - document EVERYTHING. Write down who you speak with, date/time, and what they tell you. The system is so messed up that sometimes you need to call multiple times if the first rep gives you wrong info (which happens a lot). Good luck - I know how stressful this is!

The system is designed to be confusing so people make mistakes and dont get paid. Its absolutely criminal how they run NY unemployment. I had same issue in March and it took 3 weeks to fix because I couldnt get through on phone.

Whatever u do, DON'T try calling on Monday. Thats when everyone calls. Try Wednesday afternoon - slightly better chance of getting through.

•I sent a message yesterday but haven't heard anything back yet.

•they're usually pretty slow. might take 3-5 days to hear back. faster to call if you can actually get through to someone.

Hot tip: if you have Twitter, sometimes tweeting at NYSDOL publicly about your issue gets their attention faster than calling. They hate the bad publicity 😂

•This actually works! I did this last year and got a DM from them within hours asking for my info. Still had to call in, but at least they were expecting me.

The people saying claimyr works are right. I was skeptical AF but I was desperate after trying for 2 weeks to get through. It got me connected to an agent who fixed my issue. claimyr.com saved me from losing my mind 💯

•how much did it cost? seems sketchy to pay for something that should be free

•yeah I get that but when you're about to lose benefits worth hundreds of dollars it's worth spending a little to get it fixed. way better than taking a day off work to sit on hold.

I went thru this last month. You NEED to get someone on the phone. The system is designed to stop payments automatically when you report returning to work, even if it's just part time. They owe you money for the days you didn't work but you'll never get it unless you call and get a human to fix it.

Try calling your state assembly person! I did this when I had a similar issue and they helped me get through to unemployment. They have special contacts there.

FYI going back to work doesn't ALWAYS auto-stop your benefits. My friend just put in the hours he worked and still got partial benefits for that week. The system is just super inconsistent.

•Depends if you click "returned to work" vs just reporting hours worked. Two different things in the system but they don't explain that clearly.
