Need NY unemployment password reset phone number - 888-469-7365 isn't working
I'm trying to reset my password for my NY unemployment account and the phone number I have (888-469-7365) is completely useless. I've called it 5 times today and all I get is automated messages that eventually disconnect me. I can't log in to certify my weekly benefits because I forgot my password, and the reset link in my email isn't working either. Does anyone have a WORKING phone number for password resets? Getting desperate as I need to certify by Saturday or I'll miss this week's payment.

that number is for general unemployment questions not tech support. try 800-833-3000 for account issues

Thank you! I'll try that number right now. Did you have to wait long to get through to someone?

The correct number for NY DOL technical support with login issues is actually 800-833-3000. They handle account-related problems including password resets. However, be prepared to wait - their call volume is extremely high right now because of the new verification system they implemented in January 2025. Alternatively, you can try: 1. Using the 'Forgot Password' option directly on the NY.gov ID page (not the DOL page) 2. Clearing your browser cache completely and trying again 3. Using a different browser entirely Many people don't realize that NY unemployment uses the NY.gov ID system, so you need to reset through that portal specifically.

I tried the forgot password option on NY.gov ID page multiple times but keep getting an error when I click the link in my email. Something about "token expired" even though I click it right away. I'll try the number you mentioned and also try using Edge instead of Chrome. Thanks for the detailed help!

I had THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM last month!!!! That number is completely useless and I spent THREE DAYS trying to get someone. The whole system is designed to make it impossible to get help. I eventually had to go to the office in person and wait 4 hours just to reset a password. The government doesn't care about us at all.

Ugh, that sounds awful. I really don't have time to go to an office in person right now. Did you try any other methods before giving up and going in person?

I tried EVERYTHING. Called every number I could find, emailed them 5 times, even tried to message them on Twitter. Nothing worked. The system is BROKEN on purpose!!

I was stuck in the same situation a few weeks ago and wasted hours trying to get through their regular phone numbers. After 2 days of frustration, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an actual NYSDOL agent in under 10 minutes. They were able to unlock my account and help me reset everything. There's a video on how it works here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE It was such a relief to finally talk to someone after spinning my wheels for days. The agent also helped me with my certification for the previous week since I missed it due to the login issues.

I've never heard of Claimyr before. Is it an official NYSDOL service? I'm just worried about giving my information to a third party.

It's not an official NYSDOL service, but it's legit. They basically navigate the phone system for you and call you back when they reach an agent. I was skeptical too but was desperate after 2 days of trying on my own. The agent I spoke to was definitely a real NYSDOL employee who had full access to my account.

Have you tried calling very early in the morning? I've found that calling the technical support line (800-833-3000) right when they open at 8:00 AM often means shorter wait times. Also, Mondays and Tuesdays tend to be their busiest days, so try Wednesday or Thursday if possible. Another tip: if you're getting the "token expired" error, it could be because you're clicking the link after too much time has passed or because you requested multiple reset emails. Try requesting just one reset email, then clicking it immediately. If none of that works, there's actually a little-known form on the NY.gov website for account lockouts that can sometimes get faster responses than calling: https://www.ny.gov/form/account-recovery-request

Thank you! I'll try calling early tomorrow morning. I didn't know about that form either - just filled it out. Hopefully one of these methods will work before my certification deadline.

my brother works for nysdol and says they're always short staffed on the phone lines. better off trying the online options first.

Sometimes what appears to be a password issue can actually be an account security flag on NYSDOL's end, especially if you've tried multiple reset attempts. Here's what I recommend based on helping several people through similar situations: 1. First, try accessing your account from a device connected to your home WiFi rather than cellular data or public WiFi, as NY's system sometimes flags logins from varying IP addresses. 2. If you have access to your email, request ONE password reset and wait up to 15 minutes for it to arrive (check spam folders too). 3. When you receive the reset email, don't click the link directly. Instead, copy and paste it into your browser's address bar. This sometimes resolves the "token expired" error. 4. If you still can't get in, call 800-833-3000, but use these specific menu options: Press 1 for English, then 1 for claims assistance, then 2 for existing claims, then 5 for "other questions" - this routes you to representatives who can handle technical issues despite not being the official tech support path. If nothing else works, you can request account reverification through their secure message system if you can access it through NY.gov (even if you can't access your unemployment account).

These are great tips, thank you! I hadn't thought about the IP address issue - I've been trying from different devices. I'll stick to my home computer. And that menu navigation sequence is super helpful. Will try that tomorrow morning.

You're welcome! Also, be sure to use the same browser you initially created your account with if possible. Their system sometimes has issues with cross-browser sessions. And if you do get through on the phone, ask them about getting an extension on your certification deadline due to technical issues - they can sometimes grant exceptions for missed certifications caused by account access problems.

UPDATE: Success! I called the 800-833-3000 number at 8:05 this morning and followed the menu options that @UnemploymentHelper suggested. Only waited about 20 minutes and got through to someone who was actually helpful. They reset my password on their end and helped me set up a new one. Also got my account unlocked and was able to certify for this week AND last week (they gave me a retroactive certification due to the technical issues). Thank you everyone for your help!!

That's great news! Glad you got it sorted out. And good to know they allowed you to claim for the missed week - that's not always guaranteed, so you got lucky with a helpful representative.
