NYS Department of Labor unemployment numbers released - when do weekly reports come out?

I've been tracking the weekly unemployment claims data for New York and I'm confused about when NYS Department of Labor actually releases these numbers. I know the federal data comes out on Thursdays but what about the state-specific breakdowns? My employer is asking me to pull together some workforce analysis and I need to know when the most current NYS unemployment statistics become available. Does anyone know the regular schedule for when these reports get published?

NYS Department of Labor typically releases their weekly unemployment insurance claims data every Thursday morning around 8:30 AM, usually within an hour of the federal Department of Labor release. The state data includes breakdowns by region and industry sectors. You can find it on the NYS Department of Labor website under Labor Statistics or sign up for their email alerts.

Thanks! Do you know if they release any preliminary data earlier in the week or is Thursday the first time we see the numbers?

The timing can be tricky because NYS Department of Labor releases both the initial weekly claims and the continuing claims data on Thursdays, but they also do monthly employment situation reports that come out a few weeks later with more detailed analysis. If you need historical data, their Labor Statistics page has archives going back several years. For real-time tracking, I'd recommend checking around 9 AM Eastern on Thursdays.

Perfect, that monthly breakdown sounds like exactly what my employer needs for the workforce analysis. I'll check both the weekly and monthly reports.

I've been trying to reach someone at NYS Department of Labor about getting more detailed unemployment data for my research project but their phone lines are always busy. Has anyone had luck getting through to their statistics department? I need clarification on some of the seasonal adjustments they make to the numbers.

I had the same problem trying to reach NYS Department of Labor agents for different reasons. Someone mentioned a service called Claimyr that helps you get through to unemployment offices - they have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Might be worth checking out if you need to actually speak with someone there.

Interesting, I'll look into that. The automated phone system just keeps cycling me through menus without getting to a real person.

Thursday mornings but honestly the NYS Department of Labor data release schedule is pretty reliable compared to some other states I've worked with
