When do unemployment numbers come out from NYS Department of Labor?
I'm trying to track unemployment statistics for my research project and need to know when NYS Department of Labor releases their monthly unemployment numbers. Does anyone know what day of the month they typically publish the data? I've been checking their website but can't find a consistent schedule. Also wondering if there's a specific time they update or if it varies each month.

NYS Department of Labor typically releases unemployment statistics on the third Friday of each month, usually around 8:30 AM. The data covers the previous month's numbers. You can find them on the labor.ny.gov website under Labor Statistics section. They also coordinate with federal Bureau of Labor Statistics releases.

•Perfect, thank you! So January numbers would come out third Friday of February?

Yeah the schedule is pretty consistent but sometimes holidays can push it back a day or two. I work in workforce development and we always plan our monthly reports around those Friday releases. The numbers include both initial claims and continuing claims data.

•Do they break it down by region too? I'm specifically interested in upstate vs NYC metro area trends.

•Yes they do regional breakdowns! Check the detailed reports section - they have county-level data and metropolitan statistical areas.

•No, the original poster is asking about when the state releases unemployment rate statistics - like the overall jobless rate for New York. That's different from individual benefit calculations.

If you need to contact NYS Department of Labor directly about data releases or have specific questions about their methodology, I had luck using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually get through to someone. They helped me connect with the right department when I was doing economic research last year. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works.

•Interesting, never heard of that service before. Does it actually work for non-claim related questions?
