NYDOL: Need to call TCC to complete unemployment claim - tips/advice?
Hey everyone, I just finished filing for unemployment online and got a message saying I need to "Call the Telephone Claims Center to Complete Your Claim". Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm not sure what additional info they need or how long this call might take. Any tips on what to expect or how to prepare would be really helpful!

Ugh, been there done that. It's a pain in the butt, but here's what you need to do: 1. Get all your docs ready - SSN, employment history, etc. 2. Be prepared to wait on hold FOREVER 3. Have a pen and paper handy 4. Be patient with the rep, they're usually pretty helpful Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor! 🍀

•This is solid advice. I'd add: make sure you have a good phone connection and a quiet place to take the call. You don't want to drop the call after waiting for hours!

•Thanks for the tips! Any idea how long the actual call usually takes once you get through?

•It really depends, but I'd set aside at least an hour just to be safe. Better to have too much time than not enough!

I found a way to skip the hold time! There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then forwards the call to you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it saved me hours of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. The $20 was worth not losing my mind on hold music for days.

•For me, it took about 3 hours. But I just went about my day and got a call when they connected me. Way better than being stuck by the phone!

•I wish! But nah, they make you call for certain things. Probably to weed out the people who give up 🙄

Pro tip: while ur waiting on hold, go thru the unemployment handbook. Theyll probably ask u questions from it and itll make the call go faster if ur prepared

•That's a great idea, thanks! Where can I find the handbook?

•Should be on your state's unemployment website. Just google "[your state] unemployment handbook" and it should pop up

Heads up: they might ask about your job search efforts. Keep a log of places you've applied to, it'll save you headaches later!

Just went through this last month! @Miguel here's what helped me get through it smoothly: - Call first thing at 8 AM when they open (way shorter wait times) - Have your W-2s, pay stubs, and employer contact info ready - Write down the rep's name and any reference numbers they give you - The actual interview part only took about 15-20 minutes once I got through They mostly just verify your employment history and ask why you're unemployed. Super straightforward if you have your paperwork organized. You got this! 💪

•This is super helpful, thanks! @Caden Do you remember what specific questions they asked about why you're unemployed? Just want to make sure I explain it clearly when I call.

•@Caden This is exactly what I needed to hear! The 8 AM tip is gold - I was planning to call in the afternoon like an idiot 😅 Quick question: did they ask for anything specific about your last day of work or final paycheck?

Been through this exact same thing! The TCC call is basically just them verifying info that didn't match up properly in the online system. Usually it's something simple like employment dates or reason for separation that needs clarification. My advice: call on Tuesday/Wednesday mornings around 8:15-8:30 AM (not exactly at 8 when everyone else calls). Have your Social Security card, last few pay stubs, and exact dates of employment ready. They'll ask about your work history, why you left your job, and if you're able/available to work. The whole thing took me maybe 25 minutes once I got through. Don't stress too much - they're just doing their due diligence to make sure everything checks out before approving your claim. You're almost there! 👍
