NY unemployment website freezing when submitting part-time work info on questionnaire
So frustrated with the NY unemployment system right now. Started a part-time job three weeks ago and trying to report it properly through their online questionnaire. Every single time I fill out all the information (employer name, address, hours worked, pay rate, etc.) and hit submit, the page just refreshes and gives me another blank form instead of confirming or moving to the next step. I've been trying for 4 days straight now. Tried using Chrome, Firefox, and even Edge. Cleared my cache, disabled extensions, used incognito mode - nothing works! Just keeps giving me blank forms over and over. Anyone else run into this issue? Getting worried they'll accuse me of fraud for not reporting my work even though I'm literally trying everything I can to submit this info correctly.

Yep, same thing happened to me last month! The system is broken AF. I tried calling but waited over 2 hours and got disconnected.

•OMG did you ever figure out how to fix it? I've already tried 3 different devices and nothing works

•nope! eventually just kept spamming the submit button and magically on like the 15th try it went through. no idea why. the whole system needs to be rebuilt from scratch tbh

•try early morning like 6am - the site works better when less ppl are on it

After spending hours going in circles with ny unemployment's website, I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual human. They called and waited on hold for me, then connected me to an agent who fixed everything in 10 mins. Talking to a real person was the only way I got my issue resolved and my benefits flowing again. Check out this video too https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•sounds sketchy af. is this some kind of scam? 🤔

Anastasia Kuznetsov
•Not a scam at all. I was desperate after trying for weeks to get through. The service just holds your place in line and then calls you when an agent picks up. Saved me from losing my mind and my benefits got fixed that same day.

•wait so how does this actually work? do they just call for you?

•Yeah basically they have some system that dials and waits on hold so you don't have to. When a real person answers, they call and connect you. Definitely worth it considering I was about to lose my apartment waiting for these benefits.

•yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

•no catch! I was skeptical too but I was desperate and it actually worked. Got my issue fixed the same day after weeks of trying on my own. Check out their site if you're stuck like I was.

There's a weird workaround I found. Go to the questionnaire, but DON'T fill it out completely. Leave the zip code blank, then go back and fill it in right before submitting. For some reason this worked for me after like 20 failed attempts. The NY unemployment site seems to have a bug with form validation that causes it to loop.

Try using Internet Explorer (if u still have it). The site was built on ancient technology and sometimes the newer browsers cause problems with submission forms.

•Internet Explorer is discontinued 💀 but you could try Edge in IE compatibility mode

•oh right lol forgot Microsoft killed it. Edge in compatibility mode is what I meant thx for the correction

I work in IT and this sounds like a session timeout issue. The NY system probably has a really short inactivity timer that expires while you're filling out the form. Try filling everything out super fast (like have all your info ready beforehand) and submit immediately. Don't pause while filling it out.

•This actually makes a lot of sense. I'll try having everything ready and typing fast tomorrow morning. Thanks for the tech perspective!

Look I'm just gonna say it - the unemployment system is DESIGNED to be frustrating. They make it hard on purpose so people give up. I've dealt with the NY unemployment system for months and it's not incompetence, it's by design.

•100% this. They hope you'll just give up and stop claiming benefits.

•facts. my cousin works for a state agency (not NY) and says the same thing. they literally have quotas for rejected applications

•this is conspiracy theory BS. the system is just old and underfunded, not malicious

•underfunded BY DESIGN. they could fix it if they wanted to. wake up sheeple 👀

Ok here's what worked for me with this EXACT problem (had it back in April). You need to disable ALL browser extensions completely. Then clear cache AND cookies. Use a private/incognito window. And most importantly - don't use autofill for ANY fields. Type everything manually. For some reason the autofill triggers the refresh loop in their system.

•Interesting! I was using autofill. Will definitely try this method tomorrow, thanks for the detailed steps!

Honestly your best bet is to speak with a actual rep. I recommend using claimyr.com - had a similar problem and banging my head against the wall for weeks. They got me through to someone who fixed it in minutes. Best decision I made during my unemployment nightmare.

•not falling for another unemployment 'hack'... these never work

ThunderBolt7
•I get your skepticism, was there myself. But this isn't a hack - they literally just call and wait on hold so you don't have to. Then they connect you when a human answers. Simple but effective when you're dealing with 3+ hour hold times.

Did you try reporting it with weekly certification instead of the new hire questionnaire? Sometimes that route works better.

Take screenshots every time you try to submit. Document everything. If they try to come after you for "not reporting" you'll have evidence you tried. NY unemployment is notorious for placing the blame on claimants.

•THIS!!! Document EVERYTHING when dealing with unemployment. I got hit with an overpayment notice even tho I did everything right 😡

•yep and send emails too so you have timestamps proving you tried to notify them

Whatever you do, don't just give up and ignore it. My coworker did that and ended up with a $7200 overpayment bill because they said she didn't report income properly. The NY unemployment system is brutal with their "fraud" penalties.

Have you tried using a different device entirely? Sometimes the mobile version of the site works when desktop is bugging out. The phone app is surprisingly better than the website for some functions.

•I tried my laptop and phone already, both have the same issue. Haven't tried a tablet though, maybe I'll borrow one from a friend.

This is a well-documented issue with the NY unemployment system that's been happening since they updated their portal in September. The tech team knows about it but hasn't prioritized fixing it. Here's what you need to do: 1) Call them directly - but good luck getting through normal channels 2) Try the alternative reporting method: go to "weekly certification" instead of the questionnaire and report your part-time work there 3) Document every attempt with screenshots and dates/times 4) If all else fails, I had success using claimyr.com to get through to a live agent who manually entered my information The issue is related to their form validation system - it's incorrectly handling specific character inputs and causing an infinite loop. Some agents can override the system on their end. I was in your exact situation about two months ago and nearly lost my benefits because of their technical issues. Don't give up!

•Thank you SO much for this detailed response! So at least I know it's not just me being stupid with technology. I'll try your suggestions and hopefully get through to a human who can help.

•Does calling that claimyr service actually work? i've been trying to reach unemployment for 3 weeks now with no luck

•It worked for me after I wasted days trying to get through on my own. They have some system that holds your place in line and calls you when they reach a human. Saved me tons of time and frustration.

Has anyone tried contacting their state representative about these issues? I've heard some people had success getting unemployment problems fixed by reaching out to their assembly member's office.

•I did this last year and it actually worked! My rep's office had a dedicated person who handled unemployment cases. Got my issue resolved in 3 days after being stuck for weeks.

So wait im confused, are you trying to report a new job through the new hire portal, or are you just trying to report part-time income for your weekly certification? Those are two different things and use different systems.

Omar Farouk
•It's a new part-time job, and their system prompted me to fill out the new hire questionnaire. I'm still eligible for partial benefits since I'm only working 15 hours a week.

I fixed this issue by completely wiping all my browser data (not just cache but EVERYTHING) and then doing it in incognito mode at exactly 8am when their system is freshly reset for the day. Sounds crazy but it worked.

Ugh dealing with NY unemployment is like stepping back into 1995 internet. Their whole system runs on technology from the dark ages 💀

went through similar BS last year. ended up having to fax (yes, FAX) my information to them because the online system was broken. might be worth trying that route if you can find a fax service.
