NY unemployment partial benefits not showing up after 3 weeks of claiming - did I make a mistake?
I started claiming NY unemployment again since January 5th, 2025 but haven't received any payments yet. The DOL sent me a monetary determination letter showing how much I qualify for weekly. I'm working part-time (just a few hours) so I figured I'd get at least partial benefits based on what they approved me for. I've been honestly reporting my limited work hours each week when certifying, but after claiming for 3 straight weeks, my payment history shows nothing - no deposits, no pending payments, nothing! Should I call the unemployment office? Did I mess something up with my part-time work reporting? Has anyone dealt with partial benefits not showing up like this?

•But the whole point of partial benefits is that you CAN work part-time and still get something if you earn below a certain amount. That's what I don't understand...

You need to call them ASAP. This is actually a common issue with partial benefits right now - they often get flagged for manual review when you report part-time work. The system is supposed to automatically calculate your partial payment based on the 80% rule (they reduce your benefit by 80 cents for every dollar you earn), but sometimes it gets stuck in processing. Did your payment history show any status like 'pending' or 'held'? Or is it completely blank? Either way, you need to get through to a claims specialist who can see what's happening behind the scenes.

•Thanks for explaining this! My payment history is completely blank - not even showing pending or anything. I'll try calling tomorrow morning.

I went through EXACTLY this in February. Called for 2 weeks straight and couldn't get through. It was infuriating!!! Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an agent in about 20 mins. Turns out there was a flag on my account because of the part-time work and they needed to verify my hours with my employer. The agent fixed it right there and I got all my back payments the next day. They have a demo video if you're interested: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Is this legit?? I'm having the SAME PROBLEM and need to talk to someone NOW! Been trying for 3 days and can't get through!

•Yes, it's legitimate. I was skeptical too, but it worked for me when I couldn't get through on my own after days of trying. They just help you skip the phone queue basically.

Make sure when you certify that you're answering the question about being ready, willing and able to work as YES! I had a similar issue and it turned out I accidentally hit No one week when I was distracted. Also check that you're correctly reporting your gross earnings (before taxes) not your take-home pay for the part-time work.

•I've definitely been selecting YES to all those questions, and I'm reporting my gross earnings before taxes. The weird thing is I'm not even getting an error message or explanation - just nothing showing up at all.

•OMG 5 WEEKS?? I can't wait that long!! Did you just keep certifying or did you have to do something to fix it?

Are you making sure to report your work hours and earnings for the correct week? The NY unemployment week runs Sunday-Saturday, but many employers' pay periods are different. You need to report based on when you actually worked, not when you got paid. Also, did your employer contest your claim maybe?

•Yes, I'm reporting correctly based on the Sunday-Saturday unemployment week. My employer shouldn't be contesting anything - I've been working there for years and just had my hours reduced recently. I'll definitely try calling to see what's going on.

Just to clarify for everyone: NY does allow partial benefits when you work part-time. The current formula reduces your weekly benefit by 25% for each day you work, regardless of hours (even 1 hour counts as a day). If you work 4+ days or earn more than your maximum benefit rate, you get nothing for that week. OP, when you call, specifically ask if your account has a "partial benefits flag" or if it's under review. Sometimes they need to manually verify your part-time work, especially if this is a new part-time job that wasn't on your original claim.

•Thank you! This is super helpful. I didn't realize it was based on days rather than a straight percentage of earnings. I'll ask about the partial benefits flag when I call.

UPDATE: Finally got through to someone at unemployment this morning! There was indeed a flag on my account requiring manual review because I started reporting part-time work. The agent released all my payments and said I should receive everything within 2-3 business days. She said this is happening to a lot of people right now. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Great news! Glad you got it resolved. For future reference, any time your certification pattern changes (like going from no work to part-time), it often triggers a review. Keep claiming each week while you wait for issues to resolve.
