Anyone received NY unemployment payments for new September 2025 claim yet?
I filed a new unemployment claim in NY about 3 weeks ago (early September 2025) and completed all the required steps - submitted docs, did the ID verification, and have been doing my weekly certifications. My account shows 'claim processed' but I haven't received a single payment yet. The monetary determination letter says I'm eligible for $624 weekly, but nothing has hit my bank account. Has anyone who filed a new claim in September started receiving their payments yet? How long did you wait? Getting really worried as rent is coming up soon.

•Thanks for responding. Have you gotten any kind of email updates? I haven't received anything since that initial determination letter.

it takes around 4-5 weeks for new claims now. my nephew filed in august and just got his first payment last week. they changed the verification system in july and its causing delays for everyone. just keep certifying each week and when ur claim fully processes youll get all the back weeks at once

•That's good to know about the backpay. Did your nephew have to do anything special to push it through, or just wait?

This is unfortunately common with the new NY claims processing system they implemented in July 2025. The first payment typically takes 3-4 weeks, but can take up to 6 weeks for some claims that require additional verification. A few things to check: 1. Log in and check your "Payment History" section - sometimes it will show pending payments before they hit your account 2. Make sure you've uploaded all requested documents in the Document section 3. Check for any messages in your account that might indicate why there's a hold 4. Verify that your banking information is entered correctly If it's been more than 4 weeks, you should definitely try to speak with an agent directly. The call volume is extremely high right now with the seasonal employment changes.

•Thanks for this detailed response. I've checked all those things and everything seems to be in order. I've been trying to call every day but can never get through - just the automated message saying high call volume.

•Yes, the phone lines are overwhelmed this time of year. If you're approaching week 4 with no payment, I recommend trying to call right when they open (7:30am) or sending a secure message through your online account specifically asking for the status of your initial payment.

I'VE BEEN TRYING TO CALL FOR 2 WEEKS!!! Literally 50+ calls and can't get through to an actual person. This new system is GARBAGE. I filed my claim on August 27th and still haven't received a cent! The website just says "pending" with no explanation. My friend filed around the same time and got paid after 4 weeks. Makes NO SENSE! How do they expect people to pay bills???

•After struggling with the same issue last month, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent. They have this service that basically calls for you and gets you connected to an NY unemployment rep. Saved me hours of frustration. They have a demo video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE When I finally got through, the agent explained that my claim had an identity verification flag that wasn't showing on my online account. She removed it and my payment processed the next day. Worth a try if you're desperate.

mines took 5 weks to start. they said something about a backlog because of seasonal jobs ending in aug/sept. jus keep filing every week and call sometimes they have flags on ur account that dont show up online

•That could explain it! I was working a summer job before filing. Did they tell you that was the issue when you finally got through on the phone?

•ya they said seasonal employment triggers extra review or something

I got my first payment exactly 26 days after filing in September. But my coworker who filed the same day is still waiting. I think it depends on your work history and if anything in your application triggers a review. If you worked for multiple employers in your base period or had any gaps, it seems to take longer. The system is definitely backed up right now. Have you received the email confirming that your weekly certifications have been received? That at least tells you the system is registering your claims.

•I do get those weekly certification confirmation emails, so I guess that's a good sign. I had two employers in my base period, so maybe that's causing the delay.

I'm an unemployment counselor, and I can tell you September is always the worst month for new claims because of all the seasonal summer jobs ending and school-related employment changes. The current average for first payments is 24-32 days from initial filing date, but I've seen some take up to 45 days if there are any issues that require manual review. One thing to check: did you receive a "Monetary Benefit Determination" letter? If yes, and it shows you're eligible, then your claim is in the system correctly and just working through the process. If you haven't received that, there might be an issue with your application.

•Yes, I did receive the Monetary Benefit Determination letter about a week after filing. It shows I'm eligible for $624 weekly based on my base period wages. I guess that means my application is at least in the system correctly?

•Yes, that's good news. It means your wage information is verified and your claim is in the system correctly. You're just in the waiting period now, which unfortunately is longer during high-volume months like September. If you hit the 5-week mark with no payment, then it would be worth trying to reach an agent as there might be a non-monetary issue on your claim that requires attention.

I used Claimyr last year when i had a similar issue and it was worth every penny. got me through to an agent in like 25 minutes when i had been trying for weeks. turned out they needed additional verification of my identity but the letter got lost in the mail. agent fixed it while i was on the phone and i got paid 3 days later

Just to update everyone on this thread - I've been tracking claim processing times for the past few months, and September 2025 has shown a significant increase in processing times: - June 2025: Average 14-21 days for first payment - July 2025: Average 18-24 days for first payment - August 2025: Average 21-28 days for first payment - September 2025: Currently averaging 28-35 days for first payment This is consistent with the seasonal patterns we see every year, but the new verification system implemented in July has added about 7-10 days to the normal processing times. The good news is that once your claim is fully processed, you'll receive all back payments for the weeks you've certified. If you're approaching the 35-day mark, that's when you should escalate by trying to speak with an agent directly.

•This is super helpful information, thank you. I'm at around day 23 now, so sounds like I should expect to wait at least another week or two. At least knowing the timeline helps set expectations.

anyone know if the id.me verification affects how long it takes? i had trouble with that part and had to do the video call thing

Ravi Malhotra
•Yes, if you had to do the video verification through ID.me, that typically adds 3-5 business days to the processing time. The system waits for the manual verification to be completed and then has to sync that information back to your claim.

UPDATE: I finally received my first payment today! It took exactly 27 days from when I filed my claim. They sent all the back payments at once. Thanks everyone for your help and information - it really helped me stay patient knowing this was normal for September claims. For anyone else waiting, hang in there!

•Great news! Did anything change on your account before the payment went through? Or did it just suddenly appear?

•My account status changed from "pending" to "payment in process" yesterday, and then the money was in my account this morning. No other communication from them at all.
