NY unemployment group blocked notifications - losing claim updates
Has anyone else noticed they're not getting notifications from this group anymore? I think Facebook is auto-filtering unemployment posts! I missed a critical update about my NY unemployment claim because I didn't see a reply to my question last week. Now I'm worried I'll miss my payment certification window. Is there a better way to get updates directly from NYSDOL instead of relying on FB groups? This is really frustrating when we're already dealing with the stress of claims.

Exactly! That ID verification deadline was what I missed too. Did you find any other reliable place to get updates?

This is happening in several NY unemployment groups. Facebook's algorithm is filtering content it thinks might violate community standards or contain 'sensitive' topics. For critical updates, I recommend: 1. Signing up for direct email alerts from NYSDOL (https://dol.ny.gov/get-email-updates) 2. Using the Message Center in your NY.gov account 3. Setting up text alerts for claim updates The Message Center is particularly reliable since all official communications get posted there.

Thank you! I didn't know about the email alerts option. Just signed up for those.

The message center in my account never shows anything when I log in. Is that normal or is my account glitched??

I gave up on FB groups for important info months ago. The NY unemployment system is frustrating enough without having to wonder if you're seeing all the posts. Been trying to reach an agent for 2 weeks about an issue with my benefit rate and can't get through. Finally used Claimyr.com and got connected to an agent in 18 minutes yesterday. They have this video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Worth it for urgent stuff when you can't wait for FB to maybe show you the right post.

Is this legit?? I've been calling 50+ times a day trying to get someone to explain why my claim says "pending review" for almost 3 weeks!!! I'm getting desperate...

Totally legit. My neighbor used it first and recommended it to me. They don't do anything with your claim themselves - just get you through to an actual NYSDOL agent who can help. The video explains it pretty well.

The Facebook filtering issue is definitely affecting unemployment groups more than others. I've noticed three specific issues: 1. Post delays (sometimes appearing hours or days later) 2. Comment notifications being blocked 3. Some keywords triggering automatic filtering As a workaround, I check the actual group page daily rather than relying on notifications. You can also set up a notification system through NY.gov that's much more reliable. Go to your account settings, then notification preferences, and enable both email and text alerts for all claim-related updates.

This is super helpful, thank you! Do you know which specific keywords are getting filtered? I wonder if that's why some of my posts never show up.

I've noticed posts with dollar amounts, words like "denied" or "appeal", and anything mentioning payment issues seem to get filtered more often. Try using alternate phrasing or breaking up those words with spaces or periods if you need to post about those topics.

Try the one called "NY Unemployment Assistance 2025" - its smaller but posts seem to show up better there

I've been dealing with the NY unemployment system for about 2 months now and honestly, these Facebook groups have been more helpful than the actual DOL website in many ways. But I'm also having the notification problem. I'm so afraid I'm going to miss something important about my claim. Does anyone know if there's a way to see specifically which posts got filtered? Like a log or something? I feel like I'm missing half the conversation sometimes and it makes me anxious when I'm already stressed about my benefits.

Unfortunately, there's no log of filtered content that users can access. The best approach is to visit the group directly and sort by "Recent Activity" rather than relying on your news feed or notifications.

just FYI everyone i noticed if u put dollar signs $ in your post it almost always gets hidden. also words like "appeal" "denied" "fraud" get posts hidden too

That's really good to know! Maybe we need a code word system to get around the filters? Like "d3n1ed" instead of "denied"?

For those concerned about missing updates, here's a comprehensive system I've developed to stay informed without relying on Facebook: 1. Check your NY.gov account Message Center every morning (this is where official notices appear) 2. Set up direct deposit alerts with your bank so you know when payments arrive 3. Add the NYSDOL phone number to your contacts with a distinctive ringtone 4. Create a calendar reminder for your weekly certification day/time 5. Sign up for the NYSDOL text alerts by texting "NYSDOL" to 468311 This combination ensures you won't miss critical updates regardless of what happens with Facebook groups.
