My NY unemployment system shows wrong last work date - stuck in limbo since 2020
So I'm completely confused by what's happening with my claim. I got laid off from my retail job in March 2020 when everything shut down. Been receiving benefits until September 2021 when they suddenly stopped. When I checked online, the system shows my last date of work as June 14, 2020 - which is completely wrong! I was already collecting unemployment by then. I've been trying to get this fixed for months now. Called probably 30+ times but can never get through to an actual person. When I try to certify, it keeps saying there's an issue with my claim that needs review. I've uploaded all the documentation they asked for showing my actual last day was in March, but nothing changes in the system. Has anyone else dealt with incorrect work dates in the system? How did you get it fixed? I'm going on 5 months without benefits now and about to lose my apartment. The website is useless and just keeps me in this endless loop.

THIS EXACT THING happened to me last year! The system had my last day as July when I actually stopped working in May. Took me forever to get it fixed but I finally did. You absolutely NEED to talk to a real person. It's a system error they have to manually override.

•How did u finally get through to someone? I've been trying for weeks!

•I gave up on calling directly after like 50 attempts. Used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me a callback with an actual agent. Worth every penny cause they fixed it that same day and I got all my backpay within a week.

•does that claimyr thing actually work? sounds too good to be true tbh

•Yeah it worked for me! They basically just stay on hold for you then connect you when a real person picks up. Saved me hours of frustration.

After struggling for months to get through to ny unemployment, I found a way to skip the phone queue. I used claimyr.com and finally got connected to an agent who could actually help. Talking to an agent got my benefits unlocked so fast after months of nothing. They have a youtube video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•100% real. I was skeptical too but was desperate. They basically call for you, wait on hold, then connect you when an agent picks up. Saved me literal hours of hold music 🙌

•sounds like an ad. does this actually work or is it another scam?

•Not an ad, just someone who got desperate enough to try anything. It actually worked for me when nothing else did. If you've been calling for weeks with no luck, might be worth trying.

•Can confirm this works. I was in the same situation last month - wrong work dates in the system. Used claimyr.com and got someone on the phone who fixed it immediately.

When the NY unemployment system shows wrong dates, it usually means there was some kind of data entry error. The frustrating part is you cant fix it yourself online - it requires a rep to manually adjust it in their system. Keep calling and trying to reach someone.

The same thing happened to me!!!! My last day was February 2020 but they had it as August for some reason. I uploaded 3 different documents proving my last day but nothing changed online. Had to call and waste like 6 hours of my life to finally get someone to manually fix it.

•6 hours on hold?? Omg I cant even imagine... did they backpay you for the missed time once they fixed it?

•Yeah they did backpay everything but it took another 3 weeks after the call 🙄 The whole system is a mess

System errors like this have been plauging ny unemployment since the pandemic started. I work in HR and see this issue ALL THE TIME with former employees. The dates get messed up in their system and then claims get stuck in limbo. Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything - save screenshots of your claim showing the wrong date 2. Gather proof of your actual last day (final paystub, termination letter, etc) 3. You MUST speak to a claims specialist (not just any rep) 4. Be prepared to submit a formal appeal if the phone rep can't help 5. Contact your state rep if all else fails - this actually works! Also, pro tip: stop wasting time with the regular phone line. Use claimyr.com to get a callback when an agent is available. It's the most reliable way to actually speak to someone who can help fix these system errors. Good luck! The system is frustrating but there are ways to get it resolved.

•this is solid advice. contacting my state rep was what finally fixed my claim after 2 months of nothing.

•Thank u for the detailed response! I have all the documentation ready, just cant get through to anyone. Gonna try that claimyr site you mentioned.

•No problem! Just make sure when you do get through, you specifically ask for a claims specialist who can correct date information. Regular reps sometimes don't have the system access to fix these errors.

I had a very simlar issue except mine showed the rong employer entirely! Some random company I'd never worked for was listed as my last employer. Took forever to fix and my claim was frozen for months. The NY unemployment system is completely broken. 🤡

•no idea! the rep i finally talked to said they had a ton of data migration issues when they updated their system. aparently a lot of records got mixed up.

The NY unemployment office is a joke right now. Good luck getting anyone to help you. I've been dealing with them for 4 months and still haven't resolved my issue.

Try calling at exactly 7:55 AM - that's when the phone lines open and ur more likely to get through. Also try on Wednesdays, for sum reason they seem less busy.

•I'll try that tomorrow morning! Been calling midday which probably explains why I never get through

Something similar happened to me. Heres what worked: I emailed my state assembly person with all the details and they escalated it for me. Had it fixed within a week after months of getting nowhere on my own. Search "(your county) NY state assembly person" to find yours.

Sounds like a data entry error that happens when claims get transfered between different unemployment programs. The system is so outdated it's ridiculous. I had to call literally 173 times (yes I counted) to get through to someone who could fix my claim.

These problems are never gonna get fixed until they actually upgrade there entire system. NY unemployment is running on technology from like 1985 and they expect it to handle millions of claims 🤦♂️

•Fr tho. My friend works in IT for the state (not unemployment) and says their systems are ancient. Not surprised they have date errors tbh.

•didnt they just spend like a billion $ to upgrade it all??? and its still broken smh

•they announced a big upgrade but from what i heard they only upgraded the front end/website not the actual backend systems where all the data is stored. classic government IT project lol

I work in a state agency (not unemployment). Call your state senator's office. Each office has staff assigned to help constituents with unemployment issues. They can cut through the red tape and get your issue escalated.

That sucks man, I've been there. The entire NY unemployment system is running on ancient technology that can't handle all the claims. Try calling the moment they open at 8am and keep calling non-stop. It took me 46 calls to get through.

Did you ever file an appeal? When my benefits stopped because of a system error, I had to formally appeal the decision. It takes time but they have to respond to appeals.

StardustSeeker
•I tried to file an appeal online but it wouldn't let me because technically my claim wasn't denied - it's just stuck in this weird limbo state

Ethan Clark
•That's the worst! When it's not officially denied you can't even appeal. Such a broken system.

You need to talk to a Tier 2 specialist. The regular agents can't fix date issues in the system. When u finally get through, IMMEDIATELY ask to be transferred to a Tier 2 specialist or you'll just waste your time.

Andre Rousseau
•THIS!! Regular agents will just tell you they'll "note your account" which does absolutely nothing. Tier 2 is the only way.

I was in the EXACT same situation. After weeks of trying, i used claimyr.com to get through the phone system. Cost some $ but was totally worth it cuz I got my back pay of thousands of dollars once they fixed my claim. Best money I ever spent 💯

•Did they fix it right away when you finally got through? Or did it take a while after talking to someone?

•The agent fixed the date issue while I was on the phone. Then it took about 5 days for my backpay to come through. SO much faster than the months I wasted trying on my own.

Just to give you some hope - I had the exact issue (wrong last work date) and finally got it resolved last month. Took about 3 months total but I did get ALL my back pay once they fixed it. Stay persistent and document everything!

I'm dealing with something similar right now! My system shows I last worked in August 2020 but I actually got laid off in April. It's been 3 months of trying to get this fixed and I'm getting nowhere with the regular phone lines. Reading through these comments, it sounds like using claimyr.com or contacting my state rep might be my best bets. Has anyone had luck with the state rep route recently? I'm in Queens if that matters. Also @StardustSeeker - definitely try calling right at 8am like someone mentioned. I've had slightly better luck early morning vs afternoon calls, though still haven't gotten through to someone who can actually help yet. This whole situation is so frustrating when you know it's just a simple data error that should take 5 minutes to fix 😤
