UGH the NYS Department of Labor payment system is SO BROKEN!! I've been waiting 3 weeks for payments that show as 'issued' and still nothing in my account. This is ridiculous - people need this money to survive and they act like it's no big deal that payments just disappear into thin air.
One more thing to check - make sure you didn't accidentally set up a debit card instead of direct deposit. NYS Department of Labor sometimes defaults to their KeyBank debit card option and people don't realize it. If that's the case, you should have received a card in the mail within 7-10 days of your first issued payment.
THE SYSTEM IS SO BROKEN WHY DOES IT EVEN MATTER WHEN YOU FILE?? I filed mine perfectly on time and it's been in adjudication for 6 weeks with no explanation. NYS Department of Labor doesn't care about any of us!
I had a similar issue with my claim taking forever when unemployment was at record lows last year. Ended up having to call NYS Department of Labor dozens of times. Actually found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Saved me hours of being on hold and getting disconnected.
Low unemployment is bad because it gives employers too much power and they start cutting benefits and treating workers worse because they know people need jobs. Plus NYS Department of Labor gets stingy with approvals because they assume everyone should be able to find work easily.
Just want to add that some places will accept your weekly claim confirmation emails as proof too, especially for temporary things like rent assistance. But for anything official or long-term, definitely get the verification letter from NYS Department of Labor like others mentioned.

•It varies by state. Some states do have higher replacement rates, but NY is around 50% with that $504 weekly maximum cap.

This is exactly why I keep telling people to have an emergency fund! You can't rely on the government to take care of you. That said, definitely apply for everything you qualify for and start job hunting immediately. The job market is actually pretty good right now in most industries.

•Easy to say when you have extra money to save. Some of us are living paycheck to paycheck already.
