How to check if NY unemployment ERAP payment was issued? Can't find info anywhere

I saw someone mention in a thread last week that there's actually a way to check if anything was paid out if you applied for ERAP (Emergency Rental Assistance Program) through the NY unemployment portal, but now I can't find that post anywhere! I applied back in January 2025 and haven't heard ANYTHING for almost 2 months now. Getting really anxious because my landlord is threatening eviction. Does anyone know how to check payment status for ERAP applications? The main website is completely unhelpful and just shows "pending" with no other details.

there is no way to check erap payments thru unemployment portal, theyre seperate systems. you gotta call the erap hotline but good luck getting thru lol

Are you sure? The person specifically said there was a backdoor way to see if payments were issued even if you hadn't been notified. Something about checking payment history in a different section?

The ERAP payment status can be checked, but not through the unemployment portal directly since they're separate programs. You need to go to the official OTDA portal at otda.ny.gov/erap and use your application number to check status. Alternatively, you can call 844-NY1-RENT (844-691-7368) but wait times are extremely long. If your status has been stuck on "pending" for 2+ months, I'd recommend requesting an application review. There's a form on the website under "Application Status Inquiries" that sometimes gets faster responses than calling.

Thank you for this! I'll try the OTDA portal right now. Do you know if there's a specific section in there that shows if any payments were actually sent out vs just showing the general status?

Yeah I remember that post too! Someone said you could check your case status through NY.gov ID and then there was some kind of backdoor. Wish I had saved it too!

There is indeed a way to see ERAP payment status, though it's not through the unemployment portal directly. What you need to do is: 1. Login to your NY.gov ID account 2. Go to "My Applications" section 3. Look for "Payment History" tab (not just the main dashboard) 4. Select the dropdown for "All Programs" and you'll see ERAP listed there if you've been approved This works because NY.gov uses a unified payment system behind the scenes even though the programs are separate. If you can't see ERAP listed there, it means no payment has been authorized yet. If you're facing eviction, don't wait for the online system - you need to speak with someone directly. I was in a similar situation and couldn't get through on the phone until I used Claimyr (claimyr.com). They got me connected to an agent in under 30 minutes when I'd been trying for days. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Thank you so much! This is exactly what I was looking for. I'll check the Payment History section right away. If I can't find anything there, I'll definitely try Claimyr because I really need to talk to someone about my case before my landlord moves forward with eviction.

ERAP is the WORST!!!! I applied in November 2024 and FINALLY got approved last week but guess what?? They paid my PREVIOUS landlord even though I clearly stated I moved!!! Now I have to go through a whole appeal process which takes ANOTHER 30 days!!! The system is COMPLETELY BROKEN and they don't care about us at all!!! Don't bother with the website - it never updates and the information is usually wrong anyway. The only way I got any real information was by going IN PERSON to the local HRA office.

Omg that happened to my cousin too! They paid the wrong person and now she's fighting to get it fixed. The whole system is a joke honestly.

I'm in a similar situation and just discovered something that might help you too. After checking the payment history like someone mentioned above, I couldn't find anything. But then I remembered I had set up email notifications for my NY.gov account, and I found emails in my spam folder with updates! Check your spam/junk folders for emails from noreply@otda.ny.gov - sometimes they send payment confirmations there and they get filtered out.

That's a great tip, I'll check my spam folder right now. I never thought to look there!

my neighbor got erap last month and she said they never updated the website at all. she just suddenly got a letter in the mail saying it was paid directly to her landlord. maybe check with your landlord if they got anything? sometimes the landlords get notified before you do

wait do u even qualify for erap if ur getting unemployment? i thought u had to be working to get it?? but i could be wrong

This is a common misconception. You can qualify for ERAP while on unemployment - the program is based on income eligibility, not employment status. ERAP is designed to help people who experienced financial hardship during or due to COVID-19, which includes many people who needed unemployment benefits. The key is that your current income (including unemployment benefits) must fall within the eligible range for your county.

Just to add some useful information: If you need to escalate your ERAP application, you can contact your local state representative's office. They often have dedicated staff who can inquire about ERAP applications and sometimes get them expedited if you're facing imminent eviction. Bring your application number and any correspondence you've received. This worked for several of my clients who were in similar situations.

Thank you for this suggestion! I didn't even think about contacting my state rep. I'll try everything else first, but if I don't get answers soon, I'll definitely reach out to their office.

i just wanna add that i was in the same boat last year and honestly what worked for me was just showing up at the OTDA office in person with all my paperwork. they dont like to admit it but the squeaky wheel gets the grease with these programs. good luck!
