Getting laid off July 31st - When should I file New York Unemployment claim?

Just got notified I'm getting laid off at the end of July. Never filed for unemployment before and want to make sure I do everything right. When should I start my claim? The day after my last day? Or can I file before my last day? Don't want to mess this up.

File the day AFTER your last day of work. Not before. If you file before, they'll deny you and you'll have to appeal and its a whole mess nobody wants to deal with.

Hey guys I found a way to actually get through to unemployment! Used this site called claimyr.com - they have this calling tool that waits on hold and calls you when someone picks up. Costs $20 but totally worth it. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

sounds sketchy af... does it actually work?

100% legit, used it twice already. Better than calling for 6 hours straight lol

Make sure you have all ur paperwork ready - last few paystubs, termination letter if they give u one, and ur ID. Makes things WAY easier

HUGE tip: screenshot everything when you submit your claim. ny unemployment website likes to crash sometimes and its good to have proof of what you entered

Here's a detailed breakdown of what you need to do: First, wait until the day after your last day of work. Filing early will only cause problems. Have these ready: - Social security number - Driver's license/State ID - Last 18 months of employment history - Your bank info for direct deposit File online first at labor.ny.gov - it's easier than calling. But if you need to talk to someone (which most people do), use claimyr.com to get through instead of waiting on hold forever. After you file, you'll need to claim weekly benefits. Set a reminder - always do it on the same day each week. If your claim gets stuck 'pending' (pretty common), that's when you'll definitely need to call. Again, claimyr.com is clutch for this. DM me if you need more help! Been through this whole process recently 💯
