Anyone heard about new stimulus payments for NY unemployment recipients?
So I've been hearing some rumors about possible new stimulus payments for people who were on unemployment in New York. Some friends told me they heard something about extra money coming for those who collected benefits last year, while others said it's only for families with dependents. Has anyone heard anything concrete about this? I tried looking on the NY unemployment website but couldn't find any official announcements. Just wondering if there's actually something coming or if it's just wishful thinking at this point. Would definitely help with these rising grocery prices!

I haven't heard anything official about new stimulus checks for NY unemployment recipients. Last I checked there's nothing coming from the federal government and NY state hasn't announced anything either. I think your friends might be confusing it with that child tax credit thing that's just for people with kids under 17. Unless someone else has different info?

•Yep this is right. There's def no new stimulus for everyone. The only thing out there is the child tax credit expansion for families.

After struggling with busy signals for WEEKS trying to get answers about benefits, I finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual human at unemployment. Talking to a real agent was the only way I got straight answers about what benefits I qualified for. Best money I've ever spent to finally get my benefits questions sorted out quickly! Check this video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Wait is this for real? How does it even work? Sounds too good to be true tbh

•Totally real! Basically they call unemployment for you and stay on hold, then they call your phone when an agent picks up. Saved me hours of frustration

•I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying for 3 weeks. It actually worked - got a call back with a rep on the line in about 2 hours. They don't ask for any personal info either, they just connect you.

•Just checked out their site, looks like they just automate the calling process. Smart idea actually. Might try this since I've been trying to get through for days

I work for a tax prep company and can confirm there is NO new stimulus being issued right now. The only thing that's active is the expanded child tax credit for families with qualifying dependents. Don't fall for any scams claiming otherwise!

My cousin works for NY unemployment and said there are NO new stimulus payments coming for unemployment recipients. The system can barely handle regular claims let alone some new program. Dont believe random rumors from friends or social media!

•This ⬆️ People be spreading all kinds of misinfo about benefits. Always check the official NYSDOL website or call them directly.

•Yeah I know it's hard to get through. That's why my cousin tells everyone to just keep checking the website for official updates instead of believing rumors.

There's definitely confusion about this. What you might be hearing about is the tax refund some people are getting if they paid taxes on unemployment before the American Rescue Plan passed. Some people are still getting those adjustments from the IRS, but it's not a new stimulus payment.

•Ohhhh that makes sense. So people getting money now is just from tax stuff from last year? Not a new program?

Yara Khalil
•Exactly! The IRS is still processing some of those tax adjustments from unemployment benefits received in 2020. It's not new money, just corrections to taxes that were already paid.

Im in the same boat lookin for answers. The ny unemployment system is such a mess I cant even get basic info! I finally broke down and used claimyr.com after my coworker recommended it and finally talked to someone who confirmed theres no new stimulus. At least I got thru to a human who could give me a straight answer!

Look I've given up on expecting anything from the government at this point. Every time there's a rumor about help coming it turns out to be nothing for people like me. No kids, no special circumstances, just trying to survive paycheck to paycheck. The system is broken, period.

Hey everyone - I'm an employment counselor in NY. Let me clear this up once and for all: There is currently NO new stimulus program for unemployment recipients in New York. What people might be confusing this with: 1) The expanded Child Tax Credit - only for families with qualifying dependents 2) Tax refunds from unemployment compensation exclusion from 2020 (some still being processed) 3) Various local assistance programs in certain NY counties (but these are not statewide) If you're struggling and need accurate information about what benefits you might qualify for, I highly recommend getting through to an actual agent. The ny unemployment phone system is absolutely overwhelmed, but services like claimyr.com can help you bypass the hold times and connect with a live agent who can check your specific situation. You can also check ACCESS NYC if you're in the city, or your county's social services department for other assistance programs you might qualify for. Don't rely on rumors or social media for benefits information!

•Thank you for this clear explanation! Do you know if there's any talk about additional help coming in the future? The inflation is killing us

•Nothing concrete at the federal level right now. NY state has some proposals for inflation relief but nothing has passed the legislature yet. Best to focus on what's currently available rather than what might come.

•Was it maybe backpay from when his claim was pending? I got a random deposit last month but it was just them finally paying weeks they owed me from like 3 months ago

The real problem is there SHOULD be more help coming with these insane prices everywhere but the government doesn't care about regular people anymore. We're all just expected to somehow survive while everything costs twice as much as it did 2 years ago.

I was actually able to talk to a NY unemployment rep yesterday after using claimyr.com (literally the only way I could get through after 2 weeks of trying) and they confirmed there's no new stimulus program. They did mention I qualified for some extended benefits I didn't know about though, so it was worth the call!

Has anyone noticed how these rumors about new stimulus money always spread right before elections? 🤔 Just saying...

I checked with several sources and called ny unemployment directly. No stimulus is coming currently. The only payments going out now are regular unemployment benefits, child tax credits if you have kids, and maybe some retroactive payments if you had issues with your claim before. Don't get your hopes up for anything else right now unfortunately.
