If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor by phone to file claims or check status, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you actually reach an agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Really saved me when I was stuck in adjudication and couldn't get through the regular way.
wait i thought you needed to work full time to get unemployment?? i only worked part time too and was told i didnt qualify
Wait I'm confused about the benefit year thing. I filed in March 2024 but only collected for like 8 weeks because I found work. Then I lost that job in November and had to file again. Does my 26 weeks start over or am I still using up my original benefit year?? The NYS Department of Labor phone system is impossible to get through to ask about this stuff.
If you're still within your original benefit year (which would be March 2024 to March 2025 in your case), you'd continue using your remaining weeks from the original claim. You wouldn't get a fresh 26 weeks until your benefit year expires and you file a completely new claim.
I had this exact same situation and couldn't get through to NYS Department of Labor either. Ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually talk to someone. They have a service that gets you through to a real agent - there's even a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Finally got my benefit year questions answered instead of being stuck in phone hell.
Also keep in mind that even after your regular UI benefits end, there might be extended benefits available depending on the unemployment rate. This doesn't happen often but it has in the past during recessions. The NYS Department of Labor will notify you if you're eligible for any extensions.
appeals are such a pain with this system!! took me 3 months to get mine resolved and they still messed up the paperwork twice. make copies of EVERYTHING you send them because they love to lose stuff

If clearing your cache doesn't work, you might need to contact an NYS Department of Labor agent directly. I had a similar issue where the system was mixing up different types of forms and I couldn't get through on the phone for weeks. I ended up using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me reach an actual person at NYS Department of Labor. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. The agent was able to clear up the system error on my account in just a few minutes.

•I've never heard of that service but if it actually gets you through to someone at NYS Department of Labor it might be worth trying. The regular phone number just hangs up on me.

Just to clarify for anyone else reading - Form 940 is specifically the Employer's Annual Federal Unemployment (FUTA) Tax Return. Employers use it to report wages subject to FUTA tax and calculate their annual FUTA tax liability. As unemployment claimants, we have nothing to do with this form. If you're seeing it on your weekly claim, it's definitely a system error that needs to be fixed.
