Don't forget you also need to meet the work search requirements once you start collecting. You have to apply for jobs and keep a log of your job search activities. NYS Department of Labor can audit this stuff so keep good records!
I had such a hard time getting through to NYS Department of Labor to even understand my denial properly. If you need to talk to someone about your appeal options, I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me connected to an agent. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helped me get the information I needed for my appeal.
THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS RIGGED AGAINST WORKERS!!! They always side with employers even when the employer is clearly in the wrong. I appealed twice and lost both times even with perfect documentation. Don't get your hopes up but definitely try anyway because you have nothing left to lose at this point.
Same here with the reduced spending. My unemployment ran out last month and now I'm on standby status while looking for work. The economic impact is real - my local coffee shop closed because too many regular customers like me can't afford $5 lattes anymore.
I had trouble reaching someone at NYS Department of Labor about payment delays last month. Ended up using this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Was way easier than sitting on hold for hours trying to call myself.

NYS Department of Labor is such a nightmare to deal with. They'll probably take forever to decide and then ask for a million documents. But yeah you should still file even if they fire you for attendance.

Wait, so if I get fired I can still get unemployment? I thought only people who got laid off could get benefits.

•Common misconception! You can get unemployment if you're fired, as long as it wasn't for willful misconduct. NYS Department of Labor makes the final determination based on the facts of your case.
