How long do you have to claim unemployment in NY after losing your job?
I got laid off from my warehouse job two weeks ago and I'm just now finding out about unemployment benefits. My coworker said there's a deadline for when you can apply but he wasn't sure what it is. How long do you have to claim unemployment after you lose your job? I'm worried I might have already missed some kind of window. Also does the time limit affect how much you can get?

You should file as soon as possible! There's no strict deadline for filing your initial claim, but your benefits are only paid from the date you file, not from when you lost your job. So those two weeks you waited? You can't get paid for those weeks. The sooner you file with NYS Department of Labor, the better.

You have up to one year from your separation date to file an initial claim, but like the other person said, you only get paid from your filing date forward. just file online its pretty easy took me like 20 mins. make sure you have your last employers info and your social security card handy
